Some cities animal control officers have full police powers, so they pack heat, run stings and work under cover. In some cities they get catch poles, tasers and police backup.
My H's cousin is a police officer and gets called out to deal with wild animals because his neck of the woods has no animal control. Based upon the stories he tells, I would think it might be foolish *not* to carry a gun into some of those situations.
Yeah, doesn't surprise me either. They deal with a lot more than picking up stray dogs.
Animal control is usually called for large roadkill (deer, etc). Sometimes the animal isn't dead when they get there so they do a mercy shot.
Andplusalso, idiots who are reported for neglecting their animals aren't always keen to have "the law" invading their property and taking their animals away.
it looked like a handgun but i didn't want to stare. i always feel that looking at someones gun is like starting at their tits, in this case.
lol. FWIW, they're cool about answering questions like that. i ask cops about their sidearms all the time. mainly because i don't know anything about them.
i'd bet it's a real gun but it wouldn't shock me to hear it was a tranquilizer gun, either. we have a shitton of bears up here and they usually knock them out rather than kill them.

You'd not want to pick up an animal who you thought had rabies. I mean, it would be obvious to you. There are a lot of just normal stray animals and there are a lot nasty mofos out there too.
