I've heard of this happening, but got to see it first hand today. First round of interviews for a position in my dept. One candidate is a former student. I am fb friends with her two siblings, but not her. I pulled up her fb pg before she came in bc someone asked a question about who she was. On her public page, less than ten posts from the top, a post about her graduating from "that shithole insert my school name here" that did nothing for her.
please please please tell me that when you follow up with her to tell her she did not get the job, that you will give her a small suggestion of editing her facebook and social media NOT to show disdain for the place she is interviewing....
It always amazing me that people don't think to clean up their social media when applying for jobs. I always look people up.
I've been following a FB friend's job search/interview process with her completely public posts about it. It's nothing as bad as the OP, but it's cringe worthy all the same.
She even went back to her alma mater for a career counseling session, but obviously changing FB settings and posting habits didn't come up.
PSA if you ever get down on yourself just remember that there are criminally stupid people all around you.
Interviewing others for jobs has led me to realize that I am a functioning human being, which puts me above 75% of the populace (at least those who apply for jobs at my school).

I'm interviewing a candidate for a counseling job tomorrow that used to work for Conan O'Brien. H wants to see if she ever made it into any of his segments about his employees. lol
I made my FB so it wasn’t even searchable, beyond it being locked down. I’d prefer if interviewers just assume I have no social media presence at all.
But, I hear about so many dumb teachers that I am still boggled as to why I can’t find a job.
I literally don't even have FB because it caused so many issues when I first started working in schools 15 years ago. I am super careful about the content on my IG and it isn't linked to my real name nor am I friends with anyone in my work sphere.
We are desperate for teachers in my district if you have any thoughts on moving to another state

I should probably remove the "Fuck the Patriarchy" pic from my Facebook profile before I start applying for a position in the Deep South, shouldn't I? In my current district it would probably be seen as a positive.

It’s honestly shocking how many times I find evidence on people’s (public!!) Facebook and Instagram that sabotage their lawsuit. Also when other people tag their friends in public posts, I’ve gotten some great stuff off of that.

I searched FB for a nursing candidate we were interviewing. One of his profile pics from a while back was of the “Fuck Trump” variety. I knew I liked the guy. We hired him and he’s the best.
Social media is a goldmine of entertainment when I am hiring. That said, the best interviewee was the woman who was still in clubwear at 3pm the next day. Complete with smeared makeup and the faint smell of bar on her. She apologized, saying she knew she shouldn't have partied so hard. Uh, ya think?
My best interview story was a guy I sourced for a call center job at a large health insurance company who thought it was a good idea to tell the interviewer that he didn't trust any insurance companies, and then fought with me for 20 minutes over why that wasn't a good reason he didn't get hired.

Put your shit on lockdown people.
We were sued by a guy who claimed several injuries that left him unable to work...but posted public pics of himself working out, hiking, golfing, etc.

We won.
I have so many stories. One of which was a person who claimed major injuries but had video of themselves doing CrossFit. Lol. Like, what do you think will happen when you post this?! Oy. People.

If only... I feel like no matter what someone says on here...they don't follow up with this.

Sorry! I had graduation last night. My guess is no. I'm sure she will get the customary rejection letter. I'm out of the process now. She interviewed terribly as well. I don't see this woman getting a teaching job period.
We interviewed 7 candidates, and I was amazed at so many things that have changed in 20 years when I was going through the process (and even in ten since I last sat on an interview commitee). The resumes, attire, attention to detail. It was quite appalling. I'm going to tell them to get off my lawn too.
Eta. Rereading, I think you mean in interviews in general, not me updating my post! I'm running on four hours of sleep. I should've just stayed at school!

If you don’t mind, I’d actually love to hear what you saw as the biggest things people did wrong. I’ve had about 10 interviews for teaching jobs and haven’t gotten any of them. So, I’m curious to know if I might be doing any of those things!

!!!!PDQ!!!!
We had a big interview day in the office a few months ago and a candidate was standing outside the office of where he was interviewing. Another candidate asked if he was waiting and he said "it was supposed to start 5 minutes ago but the interviewer is not here. How unprofessional!" RIGHT when the interviewer came around the corner. These were back to back, all day interviewing sessions, so she had run out to go to the bathroom and grab some water.
Thankfully he rocked the interview and blew her away, but it was not a good first impression for sure.
