TriBestie just updated her race calendar with three previously unplanned events because she decided she wanted to do a century and had to bail on one of our tris.
One is while I"m on vacation, so that's a definite no.
But the two others I don't have a SPECIFIC conflict...so now I get to play the fun game of convincing MH that another tri and maybe a century in late october is TOTALLY reasonable. the tri is the day after Sizzli's birthday party. The century is PROBABLY going to be on the same day as this HUGE annual party our friend throws that we always attend, but she hasn't set the date for it yet. I'm thinking the century is a no...but I want to make the tri work. Wish me luck! My only bummer is that there are two races that weekend both about 2 hours away. I had a definte preference for one of them, and of course she picked the other. darnit!
no such thing as too many races...said the person who swore she was not going to do too many races this year.
Good luck bring Mr.wawa over to the dark side.... clearly you need to do at least one of these races.
Right? He pointed out I'm likely to get about 3 hours of sleep if I move forward with this plan. Oh...and it's a hard hilly course. But I'm only planning on the Sprint...
I signed up for personal training to work on lifting!
My 3rd session is this evening, and so far I am loving it. It's really challenging and I am learning a lot. I've never had a coach or trainer for anything before, and it is so cool. Once he gives me the go-ahead, I'll be doing an additional session myself on Mondays, that he'll write the plan for.
Also, it's at a Crossfit place (AKA no air-conditioning). And while I'm used to being a sweaty mess while running, this is a whole new arena for being a sweaty mess. Both of my sessions so far have been in upper 90s and I'm simply fascinated by the sheer volume of sweat.
The women who utilize my work gym locker room are so uber modest. EVERYONE changes in the bathroom stalls (of which there are only 2, so annoying). I'm the only one who changes out in the open in the locker room, because who has time to wait in line for a bathroom to change in on your lunch hour? At my neighborhood gym women blow dry their hair naked and internally I'm a little pearl-clutchy about it, so its odd that I'm the Samantha Jones of the work gym lol.

I think I would be more blasé at my regular gym than I would at a gym where I may see my coworkers naked and vice versa.

Yeah, I guess that's fair. Its a small gym within a 30+ floor building. I've never seen a co-worker, but I guess maybe others do.
jane6672, I'm sorry that Crossfit place has no a/c. My Crossfit gym most definitely has a/c, but this is Texas where a/c is basically a requirement for anything.
I'm having a good week so far, DS2 has only gotten up once per night for a few days and so I've made it to Crossfit three days in a row - which may be a post-baby record for me. Yesterday we maxed a snatch plus overhead squat (1+1) and I was super happy because I managed to get 145#. That's still 30# short of where I was before getting pregnant, but I'm starting to get my fitness back and I'm pretty pleased. Also on Monday I managed to do almost all 50 chest to bar pullups - a few of them were no-reps, but since the alternative was doing them banded I counted them anyway. I was shocked that I was able to do any C2B, but it seems that my abs have recovered enough to give me a decent kip. Unfortunately, I'd lost all of my palm callouses, so I got a couple of rips but they're not bad.
Just the two of us, I raced a former Olympian tonight for a baseline time at my masters swim team. Of course he smoked me, but it was still pretty much the highlight of my athletic “career.” 😛
jane6672, my old box did not have AC either and I HATED it. Drove me mad. scm1011, I am the conservative one when it comes to changing at the gym. I ALWAYS change in the stalls because I hate how I look. minzy, THAT IS AWESOME!
I wish I had something cool to report on. I went for a short run yesterday and today I am going for a bike ride with H. I hate how far off I am from my fitness goals and how long it is taking me to get back.

When I was swimming the other day, there was this guy who dove in, and swam to the other end. Then he got out at the far end, dove in, and swam back. He did this for about 10 lengths of the pool (getting out of the pool each time) and then he left the pool. He was a very fast swimmer and it was early in the morning. I'm really curious is there was some goal to this workout or if he was just having fun or what.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound judgey (but I definitely did reading over my post). It was more that I'm used to being the conservative one so it was weird to see what a different mindset it is at Boston Sports Club vs. my work gym. You're gorgeous, lady. And amazing job with the run and bike ride! Baby steps! FWIW, I'm not meeting my fitness goals these days either. I'm lucky if I get in 2 runs a week. My motivation is just gone.

I went to a new-to-me but actually ancient AF YMCA yesterday. Most of the showers are communal, with only two private stalls, and the towel hooks are across the room from the showers. I don't think of myself as being super modest but I was like, "UHHHHHHHHH...."
It was also nearly deserted though, so I had the place pretty much to myself and it wasn't an issue. I imagine it's an eyefull when it's crowded though.
I'm so on the fence about doing the 70.3 in September I planned on doing. I just have NO motivation to train. I want to do the *race*, I just don't want to do anything to prepare for it.
Okay, that's a lie. I just don't want to ride my bike.

Haha, this is how I feel about my 70.3 in August. I think I've done enough to get through the swim and the run, but the bike won't be pretty. I've done some rides on the trainer, but not nearly enough on the road.

I'm having foot issues, blah. Something keeps popping painfully, plus it's super tender and mildly swollen, which tells me it's a semi serious problem and I'm putting off going to the doctor because I don't want to wind up in a boot. Lol, jumping to conclusions a little, maybe, but I've got enough ortho experience to scare me.

My race is 3 months from today which seems like nothing. I feel completely unprepared, but also exhausted from working out what feels like all the time. I don't know how I'm going to keep this up for the next 3 months.
I've signed up for a half marathon in October (my second).
My sister texted me that she wants to come stay with me and do a half marathon in October — it's 6 days after mine. I said "sure, come on up, I'll do 2 half marathons in a week!" lol.
So I'm wondering how much I'll regret this if she ends up registering.

Ha! I did this exact same thing in June - including it being my second and third halfs ever. I actually thought it worked out great. I did #1 on Sunday, rested M, T did a 2.5 mile shakeout on W and then half #2 on Saturday. I PR'd both, which isn't saying much for only 3 races total, but I was thrilled. I also felt like I got a good bang for my training buck. 2 fun races for 1 training cycle!
I went out for #2 cautiously, as #1 was my "A" race, but I really felt great and strong. I finished at 2:02 and change. My recovery from #2 was also quicker. I was pretty sore after #1 for a few days. I felt pretty good the day after #2.

The weather forecast is for 30C and pure sun on Sunday. That's super hot in London. It's going to be a rough 10K for me (especially as I did the Trump protest march today and I'm playing in a softball tourney tomorrow - all in the sun). Oh, well. I'll just try to enjoy it and put no pressure on myself to do anything but finish it.

Co-signed, except mine is 3 months minus 1 week away.

I'm sure it was some kind of planned set, that wouldn't be something swimmers do just for funsies. It might have been sprints, or practicing starts, or working on breakouts, or hypoxic 25s (no breathing), or something like that. We used to do that kind of thing at the end of a workout. Otherwise your starts/etc. get dull if all you ever do is sets that start and end in the water.
As for my own random, I added a new song to my running playlist and doing that always makes me happy: Bastille - Quarter Past Midnight.
I also bit the bullet and gave my sample yesterday for BRCA testing. I'm trying not to worry too much. My ob/gyn already treats me as high risk (I started mammograms, breast ultrasounds, and a pelvic u/s to monitor for ovarian cancer) at 35 due to family history. A BRCA2 mutation is the most likely. Obviously I hope I find out that I don't carry it, but at least if I do carry it, hopefully knowing it will a) save me some fights with insurance for future preventative care, and b) will help me feel more empowered about enduring invasive "above and beyond normal" preventative care.

I just thought it was weird that that’s all he did. Why get up at 6am and deal with the pool for a 5 min workout? Maybe he planned more and just cut it short for some reason.
