I had no idea these were so dangerous. I’ve ridden them in boston. I hope the company rethinks the design of the boats to take the roof off. I know the vehicles are historic, but sometimes it’s time for s redesign. I cannot imagine the loss for these families.

The boats did not originally have roofs or canopies, they were completely open. The canopies were added by the tour companies, which is why many don’t have them and there are a lot of different designs. It seems that the NTSB has issued warnings that adding canopies can trap passengers in the event of an emergency.
If you don't want to click the link, you can search "Branson duck boat survivor," and four results will come up. The one labeled "Only Official Duck Boat Survivors" is the one being shared by friends and family--I have no idea what the others are.

Thanks for posting this, munkii. It doesn't say...who is the second survivor?
I hope they bust their goal. That poor family, what has happened to them is just unspeakable.

Oh my GOD, munkii. That's tough. Thank you for posting the link, and all my love to your friend and the family. @rainbowdash, keep an eye on her. Survivor's guilt is a thing and she may need to see a therapist to work through it.
These types of tragedies (tourist) are always so hard to process, mostly because it seems like these companies are so focused on profit they won't do even the slightest bit above the bare minimum. I keep typing and retyping things to say, but none of them seem like enough. I just wish for some semblance of peace to the families that lost loved ones and some level of justice for them.
One of these ran over a tourist in philly a few years ago, so they really shouldn’t be on land, either.to
to be fair, the pedestrian was looking down at her iPad, crossing on a red, and stepped off the curb into the path of the boat which was stopped at a light

Yes, the pedestrian had some fault, but the driver's visibility is also awful.

Oh come on. Those streets are so narrow and she literally walked right into the bus. No amount of visibility would have changed the outcome. Pedestrians do have responsibility and need to pay the fuck attention.
