LMAO..no! That is your money. I haven't read other responses, but I am sure everyone will agree with me lol
I would probably take everyone out for a very nice evening just for fun, but you shouldn't feel obligated.
And all that being said, I'm sure my H would benefit anyway because I would just do something "fun" with the money like pay off the two air conditioners we had to buy last year. I'm super fun like that.
Why does your MIL feel like she can even voice her opinion on this? It’s none of her damn business. And I can’t wrap my mind around randomly offering up cash to a grown ass non-spouse or child. I certainly would not accept it.
I would likely share with my dh but probably not equally. Which is probably extra mean because I SAH but we normally set an amount we can each blow in Vegas so what we do with that amount (win or lose) is up to each of us.

I won about $8000 in Aruba a few year back. I bought myself a really nice bag on vacation and then the rest was shared with my husband. I paid our hotel bill for the trip and few dinners and put the rest in our account when we got home.
$12K is a lot, you could take a portion and add the rest to your shared accounts with your husband. The cousin gets a free meal or something LOL.

I mean, I would share it with my husband because all of our money is joint. And I'd pretty much kill him if he won $12k and was like "I am just blowing this all on myself." The cousin though? WTF? Lol, no.
No, lol. That's not how gambling works. The entire thing is predicated on one person winning, that's why it's a fucking gamble! I don't know your MIL but I'll go ahead and guess that she wouldn't be sharing.
Oh hell no. And she's a jealous dick for even mentioning it. Unless she wants to pay the taxes on it--then MAYBE she can have a smidgen of the net amount.
ETA: The only time someone is beholden to split winnings is if everyone pitched in to buy a lottery ticket. Slot winnings are a completely different story.

Yeah, I control everything so if my H won 12k, it would be same as a personal win. If I won, he might not even have to know. I should gamble with my H more, increased odds and a win/win for me!

Did a siren go off and everyone start clapping and gathering around your machine as it spit out quarters while you exclaimed - “omg - I was just walking by and dropped a quarter and look what happened!!”? Did security escort you off somewhere to collect your winnings in a cashier check?
I would use it for H and I (another trip, pay off the car, whatever) because we share finances, and I wouldn't think to tell him he didn't at least have a say. But a cousin? Hell no. Drinks? Dinner? Splurge on a show? Ok sure. But no way would I shell out 4k to someone not H.

I want the full story! (and congrats!)
Thanks!! The bells and whistles went off and people gathered to watch. I was high and in shock. LOL. I kept asking if it was real. I rarely gamble. I spend under $100.00 per trip on gambling. I was really disappointed to learn I had to be paid out at the machine. So a cashier and a manager literally counted out the sum in cash right on the floor. It was something else.

Did you have to sign a tax form?
I sure did. Haha. First thing I had to do was provide my SSN.
