Cant open it.
Tension setting will have the stone wedged between the metal on 2 sides and parts of the girdle will be visible. Bezel setting will have the entire girdle surrounded by metal and it will not be visible.

Finally got the photo to open. It is too blurry and too far away to determine how the center stone is mounted. There is a small chance that it could be bezel set but if it was you would see an obvious ring of metal surrounding the center stone and it would look similar to this. Most halo settings have a prong setting for the center stone and the surrounding halo can be prong set or pave set depending on the size of the stones.
Is it true cathedral and bezel will be the most secure? I’d like to wear any ring for yoga teaching and want durable
Would you recommend this type of setting in the photo for my type of lifestyle ?honestly?
Catherdral refers to the way the shank goes up to meet the head, if that makes sense. It's a higher profile. I have a cathedral solitaire and I whack it on stuff all the time, but it's platinum so can take it.
A bezel is the most secure because the entire stone is surrounded by metal. There are no prongs to break or bend. I don't love split or half bezels for rings.
Something like this would work well for your lifestyle, I think. (sorry the link is a disaster)

I have a traditional prong-set ring and have never had any problems. A couple of friends have tension-set rings and have had nothing but problems. I would never do a tension-set ring if you use your hands a lot.

The cathedral style is not practical for an active person or someone who uses their hands a lot. It snags on stuff and you will whack it all the time. If you must have that style of ring, make sure that any round/oval/cushion cut stones have 6 prongs and any stone with a point/corner has prongs that cover the entire point.
I'm a nurse so pretty hard on my hands (and rings). My oval is set in 6 prongs with a platinum setting. It sits pretty high too. My jeweler has checked it several times over the years and the setting hasn't budged. So if you want a higher ring, I would definitely recommend more prongs and platinum, at least for the setting. I'm just not a fan of the way bezels look.
(Fwiw I don't usually wear my engagement ring to work, but I have when I've forgotten to remove it)
Wait, are you engaged? Or are you resetting a ring? I feel like I have not "Seen" you in forever. How are you? :)
Hi! I met the love of my life ❤️❤️❤️not the ED douchbag from online 😂😂😂 he’s my age, has a kid getting ready for COLLEGE - and she’s so amazing too. He got his life together despite having a kid young. Has full custody of her since she was a baby. He’s the sweetest, calm, amazing man. Taking my time because ... life and you learn about people over time. And we obviously won’t even think of moving in until kiddo is settled in college and then figure it all out. It’s good to know he raised a good mannered, adjusted kid despite the odds. He is so present with me and mindful without even knowing he has that side. Ha ha
We’re talking of engagement but not getting married right away. He’s amazing. He jokes October 2020 but we shall see.
The ring in question is from Costco of all places 😂
But he’s also considering something similar if it’s easier to go through a regular jeweler. I’ll have insurance so I guess it’s not the end of the world? I love the ring and so does he.
Other Update: loving my job (I started last April) - getting to travel quite a bit - I’ll be in London next week. Rome, Brussels, San Diego, Tampa earlier in the year. Teaching a lot of yoga and LOVING it - wanting to get into that FT and maybe opening my own biz. Im starting (hopefully) a yoga therapy cert next year. I get to telework a couple days a week and love that (balance!)
Miss the hell out of my sister - been doing a lot of therapy and grief counseling. Had a bit of an anxiety meltdown a few months ago but expected - I wasn’t processing my grief as I needed to. I’m working on it all - mind/body/spirit. Very yogic? 😂
Still working on lyme and all that jazz - gotten a LOT better over the last three years but I want to get over the hump. BF and I are going to a new doc tomorrow after a lot of research to see where I can take this and continue building my health.
