Yeah I mean normal and down to earth for rich people. My point is, they don't seem to be living Downtown Abbey style lifestyles, although they easily could if they wanted to. William's upbringing seems a lot more formal and closer to that era than how Will and Kate choose to live now. They have staff for the extra help but they don't seem to completely outsource childcare to their nannies. They don't employ someone to squeeze toothpaste for them. They both drive themselves around, Kate does her own hair and makeup on her off duty days, she does the school run, apparently she likes to do craft projects with her kids at home and she likes to of to the grocery store on occasion and cook meals herself. I think she'd want to take cute yet casual family photos like these whether they planned to release them publicly or not. I don't think it is a pose they are putting on for pretense. I think this is close to who they actually are. In their private lives, they seem to live like "normal" rich people. To be honest, it seems like they are trying to replicate Kate's childhood growing up. Although she is often described as coming from a middle class background, in the US we would consider her family to be fairly wealthy.
I mean, I hear you, I just disagree. We have different opinions on them. *shrug*
Eta and I’ll say that part of the reason i don’t agree is that all those tidbits you shared are ones that are carefully shared to downplay any idea of privilege and play the up the idea of normal Bill and Cathy. I’m not saying they’re not involved parents, but I also think it’s relative, and I think their real lives are probably more downton abbey then we think. Not as much as Williams was, but not a complete change either.
That’s totally possible! And if it’s true, then they’re *much* better at PR then I I’ve ever given them credit for! (I think they are not that great at it to be honest, lol).

I 100% agree with this. They have carefully curated an image of "normalcy." I am sure they are far more involved in their childrens' lives, but their lives are managed by not just a few people, but full-time staff, funded from endless money and privilege. They are living Downton Abbey lives, but they wisely are not overly showy about it.
really? Maybe there's a better picture somewhere, but that dress does not look cute to me. It looks like a frumpy ass dress that wasn't actually intended to be maternity and she's just making it work. It's pulling all over the place. And the pattern is dull. Also I dont' like the scale of the lapels on that jacket.
that's how I feel about that.
Imma drink my coffee now. Maybe I"ll like it better once I'm caffeinated.

It kinda looks like flannel pajamas that are too small. To me she pretty much always seems like her clothes need to be tailored or just get the right size! It makes her look sloppy (even when not pregnant, where fit is somewhat understandable).
I'm also not a fan of the dress- I'd love to see something a little more festive and colorful the week before Christmas. It actually looks like a sundress and she threw a coat on. You know it's not warm in London! ETA- the more I look at the outfit, the more I dislike it. The coat and dress just do not go together at all. :/

I don't like it, either. Love the coat and shoes, though!
I don't care for the dress either, but many of my maternity dresses have that kind of pull. Granted, mine are from Target, but I assume that's somewhat bound to happen given the amount of stretch they are designed to have.

Having some pull/drape across the belly would be expected. This is pulling across her bust and hips. It just looks too small.

Actually, yesterday it got into the 50s. After a week or two of being in the 30s, it felt quite warm for us.
I don't like the dress either and I agree that I wish she'd worn something a bit more holiday ish or at least colorful for a visit to a nursing home a week before Christmas.
I do wonder if they're struggling a bit to keep up with dressing her changing figure while still trying to stay close to her usual style.
Oh, well if it's not even a maternity dress I retract my statement. She's far enough along that doesnt really work anymore if it's not a loose fitting item.

At the some photos in this link, you can really see how small it is. She almost has back fat hanging over (I'm sure she doesn't really have back fat!). It is all bunched up so it could zip. I also think it is inappropriate for a winter, daytime engagment. Her calligrahpy is awesome!
I like all of the pieces separately, just not together. And definitely not the dress at this point in her pregnancy. She looks so uncomfortable when sitting. One of the best parts of being pregnant is being able to wear loose, flowy clothes!
Also, the dress is wrinkled. Mostly from sitting in the car probably, but look at it around knee level.
I think the dress is cute. Potentially ill-fitting, but cute. She also has a shorter torso than, say, Kate, and is in that pregnancy stage where you're just feeling kind of fat and like none of your clothes fit, I guess? It's all very new and she's only really been showing for like 6-7 weeks.
Huh. Well, if it's not a maternity dress I'm guessing their Option A didn't work out for some reason. And she's just kind of transitioning to maternity clothes anyway.

Oh. The pictures in the hello magazine article make it look so, so tight. She has to be so uncomfortable and dreaming of the moment she can go home and put on some leggings. Uff.
She’s too far along to wear a fitted non-maternity dress. I do remember at that stage in my pregnancy it felt like something that fit one day didn’t the next, so I can see how planning outfits for these engagements could be a challenge. They really need to bite the bullet and go with stretchy fabrics or flowy cuts.
I thought you guys were being too critical based on that one picture but when looking at all the pics that dress really doesn’t work. But we’ve all been there esp during a first pregnancy when your body is changing in ways your wardrobe and brain can’t keep up with.
Also I have total sympathy for the challenges of planning ahead for event clothing while being pregnant. But it's not as if they don't have the resources to find a new dress. This isn't like my experience as the pregnant bridesmaid in a strapless dress where I did not plan for how big my boobs were going to get. I couldn't BREATHE, but what the hell was I going to do. The dress was purchased months ahead and altered two weeks in advance.

I assume that she (and all the major royals) has a stylist, right?
I usually love her style, but this is really ill fitting.
It's such a weird dress for a daytime event in December in the first place, and then to still be trying to make non-maternity stuff like this work, meh. I know the transition to maternity wear is awkward for most women, but most women also don't have the resources Meghan does. I can't believe it wasn't possible to try on the dress the day before, realize it wasn't working, and at least have time to find another option, if they didn't have one on hand already. Surely someone on their staff can be ahead of this kind of thing.
I'm all for Meghan and Kate keeping their own personal styles despite being married into the BRF, but Kate's maternity wardrobe is usually pretty good and this is one area where Meghan could probably take some points from how Kate dresses.
The dress is a no for me. But, she sure is pretty. I am disappointed that my trip in May doesn't work with being able to see the wedding display in either London or Scotland. I am just in the middle of it being moved I think.
