(ETA: Posted and deleted b/c it ws being discussed in Eugenie’s wedding thread but reposting because it’s Eugenie’s wedding thread so we can get back to dresses and tiaras there and put baby-related stuff here.)
Well, guess I was wrong! Good for them. And agreed that it was nice to wait until after the wedding to announce.
I believe it was said that Will and Kate told their parents and then the queen, so I'd imagine it's the same. You certainly wouldn't want her finding out from anyone but you!
I imagine it's probably getting more obvious, which is why they announced now. People were so annoyed that she never took her coat off at the wedding and I think there are a number of events where she can't easily wear a coat or a swingy top like she has been the last few weeks.
Also this explains her carrying the binders yesterday. Such an actress trick, lol. I wonder if they considered having her just stand behind large plants and furniture for the whole trip.
Seriously though it will be nice for them to get the congrats and not have to dodge rumors the whole trip.

I wonder too if they want to have the option open to skip events on the tour if she's not feeling well. I have to imagine that she'd be like hospitalized-level ill to actually do it though.
Between Eugenie's wedding and leaving for the tour though, they really did not have a lot of wiggle room on when to announce though!
It was thoughtful of them to wait to announce until after Eugnie’s big day
I think their tour stars today or tomorrow so there will be lots of new photos of them.
They couldn't have waited a week?! Andrew must be apoplectic.
Well like I said they are going to have the international media laser focused on them for however long their tour lasts. I'm assuming she's passed the first trimester at least. The only reason Kate and William announced her pregnancies super early was because she got so sick and had to cancel all her engagements. If Meghan is visibly pregnant, what are they supposed to do?

Per the BBC article linked above, they told the family at the wedding. Andrew might just stroke out.
"The Queen and other senior royals were told about the pregnancy on Friday, when members of the Royal Family gathered in Windsor for Princess Eugenie's wedding"

I meant for the media. Reporters were speculating that she was pregnant because of what she was wearing but they didn't know for sure so most of the attention was focused on the bride and groom, where it belonged
Apparently they got medical advice which said it is fine for Meghan to go to the areas with zika concern. That was the part of the tour that had me convinced she wasn't pregnant yet.
And honestly, as happy as Eugenie clearly was on Friday I don't think she'd really care. It would have been a dick move to make a public announcement Friday but I don't think it's horrible to quietly tell family at the reception. Plus they might have figured it out anyway when she didn't drink or if she was showing.
I feel like there may be so many things at play here with how it was told to the family that being non-royals we can't understand. I am not excusing this but maybe they didn't want to tell anyone until she was at 12 weeks, which is suspected is right now. Maybe it's pretty clear she's pregnant and they had no choice. Maybe they couldn't meet with the Queen until Friday and they hd to tell her in person. Maybe Eugenie doesn't care because this wasn't released to the public until today? Who knows.
StrawberryBlondie moving our convo to this thread - that's what happened to me. I was 8w pregnant at MH's best friend's wedding and we didn't plan to tell anyone - we'd only had one u/s to date the pregnancy - but everyone noticed pretty much immediately that I wasn't drinking. I tried to play it off for a bit, but it was pretty much impossible.
My guess is like frlcb, there are probably several things at play that we'll never know. But if she's showing the least bit - which my guess is she is because she's short and has a short torso/little to no waist - it's not like you can really hide it very well. If they'd announced before E's wedding it would have overshadowed the day with the media. And since the tour starts today, they were already going to be the main focus so might as well announce.
Everyone was losing their mind speculating that she was pregnant due to one picture. My guess was it was pretty obvious to everyone who was actually interacting with her. So maybe they really didn't have a choice. And perhaps they talked to Eugenie about this beforehand, IDK.
I feel bad for everyone - Eugenie, Meghan, and Harry. I would hope that M & H feel terribly for the timing of the announcement, but like PPs have said, I would like to think they told Eugenie earlier.
ETA: Do we think the Queen will step in and say that the baby will be a Prince/Princess? I am guessing no.

This is my thought. I figure they probably told Eugenie, said to her "do you mind if we tell the family at your wedding" and then told the family at Windsor before the ceremony. I don't think the British Royal Family is like other families. I don't think because Meghan is pregnant she suddenly became the focus of the day and everyone ignored Eugenie. I also think they probably had to announce if she was showing. I mean on Friday she wore a loose coat and you could not see her belly at ALL and people were convinced she was pregnant. If she is 12 weeks it makes sense that they would announce it now, and by putting off the official announcement until after the wedding they still let Eugenie have her weekend.

Basically same except it was DH's cousin's weddings and his aunt kept trying to give me champagne. I was only like 7 weeks at the first one and made up something (I think I said I was on some strong cold medicine or something). The second, I was like 13 weeks so I'd told people but didn't want to at the wedding... same aunt, same thing. Only she was really drunk too.
Finally MIL was like "shut up Karen, she's pregnant."
Which lead to a lot of excited yelling room said aunt and everyone was then looking at me till she had to leave to go do mother of the groom duties.
I mean it'd be weird to ANNOUNCE at their wedding, but telling 10-15 people quietly that are close family is not a big deal, IMO. Of course, I am biased because that's exactly what I ended up having to do - we told our closest friends once one of them figured it out because it would be weird for us all to be together and not tell our close circle. And that was basically it - they said congrats, and we moved on to celebrate the wedding.

I am guessing yes unless H&M ask for her not.
They are currently really making the point that Charles, W&K, H&M are the future and giving the baby/ies the Prince/ss title plays into that.
Yes they automatically get upgraded when Charles becomes King but it makes it less messy if they fix it now and they are Prince/ss from the beginning

Ditto, the timing is really sucky all around. If Meghan is showing and/or will have to bow out of Invictus events on this tour then they probably had no choice but to announce. And Eugenie technically got her day/her weekend and now it's over, but ...
Hopefully there are no hard feelings between any of them.
I was wondering about the Prince/ss thing on my drive into work this morning. Like hopecounts said it'll depend on how big a role the Sussexes intend to play under future reigns, and if they want their kid(s) to be HRH Prince/ss then it's just easier to settle the matter right now.
Anyway, H&H 9 months to Meghan. Hopefully she's feeling OK on this tour. I was so exhausted in my first trimester - I would get home from work and just lay on the couch until bedtime. I can't imagine having to do all these Invictus events while feeling that tired.

And maybe Eugenie is genuinely happy for them! lol. I don't know why everyone assumes there is all this infighting over media attention and status. Maybe they're genuinely close, she knows her cousin really wants to start a family, and she's happy for them. It's not like they announced to the media before her wedding.

Yeah I think it will depend on what Harry and Meghan want in the future. If they want their children to be prince/princess, they will be styled that from birth (I know its not their choice, but I imagine there will be convos with the queen about it); if they don't want them to be prince/princess when Charles becomes king then they will be styled lady (I think DM said that a boy would be Earl of Dumbarton).

I mean, I would have been excited for any of my cousins that was pregnant at my wedding! I guess the argument is that Harry & Meghan get all the attention, but who's to say Eugenie even cares about that? I mean, Andrew does but it's well-documented he's a petty dick.

Also, Eugenie got a few days of super positive coverage, everyone praised her for being a "true princess," and Meghan and Harry were going to overtake the news cycle ANYWAY this week with the coverage of the tour. It wasn't like the press was going to cover Eugenie's wedding for the next month, regardless of what Andrew wanted. (because that's what I think....I think Eugenie prob doesn't care about this announcement, but Andrew is probably super pissed.)
I mean? What are they supposed to do? Gaslight everyone with a story that she ate a big burrito before the wedding? I mean c’mon. They seem like nice people who weren’t out to destroy cousins’s big day. It’s not shitty. It’s not rude. It’s just life.

I'm still laughing at his comment that there were MORE guests at Eugenie's wedding because she and Jack have more friends! LOL.

LOL.
But yeah, I think they did the best they could, considering the timing of everything.

I was thinking this too. Even without the pregnancy announcement, I would have bet most of the big weekly tabloids like People, Us, etc. would have featured a big photo of Harry and Meghan on their tour with a small photo of Eugenie's wedding in the corner. Not many people who don't follow the royal family really know who she is, unfortunately, because she and her sister have been prevented from taking on visible roles in representing the monarchy.
