Honestly, given the rhetoric used by high-profile Republicans and Fox News Carlson/Hannity/etc., I am not at all surprised. I am if anything more surprised that there hasn't been more violence and aggression by the base toward Democrats. At this point, the people the base listens to is demonizing Democrats as literally a dangerous enemy who must be stopped, and there is enough glorification of violence (see, e.g., Trump's laudatory comments about Gianforte's body-slamming, the comments made by that one GOP candidate about stomping the Dem candidates face, the list goes on) that between those two things I am frankly surprised there hasn't been more lone wolfs striking out to "protect" the country by attacking Democrats.
Unfortunately, I also believe it is only a matter of time until we see that.

Jesus, but liberals are the angry violent ones, right? I’m glad they were all found before anyone was hurt, and completely unsurprised to see violence against the opponent who is now seen as the enemy. The right has been instructing their supporters to do this for far too long.
Wtf? I’m watching CNN they just said one was also found at the White House, and then the fire alarm at CNN went off. They had to go to commercials as you see people in the back apparently leaving their desks.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
All others can easily be connected by the constant attacks from the right to those receiving the bombs.
If their ultimate goal is chaos, I think this helps. Each side can blame the other and divide us vs one outright attack against all of us which can unite us.
But I am already seeing mud slinging that this was a democratic conspiracy and it's making want to pull out my hair.
I'm sure Trump will work this into his next rally.
That said, once the report that the WH might not have received a package there were plenty of left leaning Twitter users posting their happiness because the WH bomb didn't fit their narrative.
