We recently changed the layout of our master bath and closet and beforehand got rid of all of our furniture. When I sent my pictures in to modsy the room was totally bare except for the paint on the walls. My goal was to figure out best layout, and have furniture and wall decor picked out for me. I tend to become paralyzed with indecision when it comes to decor and end up not really doing anything at all. I filled out a style and lifestyle quiz, and my only real request was for an upholstered headboard.
I was sent 2 initial designs. They send multiple angles but I’m only posting the main ones because there are so many (including a floor plan from above)
#1
#2 is with the bed on the opposite wall
I gave feedback saying I liked #1 except I wanted the headboard to be curved and I thought the bench didn’t look very comfortable. So they sent #3
I didn’t really love that bench either and I had gone to west elm in person to check out the original one and came across another one I liked so I used a feature they have where you can make changes yourself. I also had been on the search for an alternative (more affordable rug) so I added that on this version as well. The baskets look a little wonky because I did it myself and it wasn’t super easy to use. #4
Then I sent another change request because I wasn’t sure we wanted the plant. I’m not sure why they changed the clock because I liked that from the original but they sent this for #5
I like the mirror there so I think I’m at a point I’m done making changes.
I also had been on the lookout for more affordable artwork for over the bed. The one they suggested is beautiful and perfect for the room, but it’s over $400. I found a print on Etsy I’ll probably purchase instead.
But I do plan on getting the headboard, side tables, dresser, clock, and bench. I’ll probably try to find a cheaper mirror. Most of the items are from crate and barrel, CB2, and west elm. You get to choose from certain stores as part of your profile.
I was a little disappointed I couldn’t get suggestions for curtains but I ended up buying plain white panels at target last week which I think will look nice. I’m typically drawn to patterns but then like I said before I get stuck on coordinating everything so I think solid white will really work. I’ll also probably stick with just a plain white duvet with mint or grey sheets.
It was really fun getting the updates and I feel so much more focused and excited. I think it will really feel “done” which I haven’t ever had before! I do plan on using it again over the next few months for at least 3 other rooms!

That looks great! Am I right in thinking that in design #2 you wouldn't be able to open that door next to the bed, though?
Do you get any sense about who the Modsy designers are? The site doesn't seem to say anything about whether they have people with actual design experience or not. I wish they would show some of the completed rooms as well as the models just to show that it does really work out the way they model it. Like, I know they wouldn't have control over that part, but they could do a few sample rooms or have customer-submitted photos or something.
That's so fun! I hadn't heard of this service, but once we find a house and move, I'm going to keep it in mind. I'm sure I'll have analysis paralysis once we have more space than I'm used to.

You're right about #2. I didn't even think through that far I just though overall it looked tight over on that side, and preferred the bed on the other wall anyway. That is disappointing that it wasn't considered.
I have no idea about their experience. With each revision they sent though, it was a different person sending, so you don't even get continuity.

As an interior designer, I was curious about this too after reading this post. So, I scoured their website and the internet and found nothing. When I looked on their careers pages, I did find a post for a designer, and the job requirements do not require a background in interior design. The founder is also not a designer. This is an interior decorating company calling itself a design company. The big tell to me was the item you caught: a designer would not put a table in front of the door without indicating on a drawing that the door will be permanently locked from the inside or removed--designers know building codes, decorators (for the most part) don't.
Also, regarding design, in #1 I thought it was odd that they placed a mirror on the wall where they did, because you'd have to stand in a tiny space between the bed/bench and mirror to see the full length. So, maybe it's not the best for layout! I do love the furniture and decor choices though.
Mrs.flang, based on pricing, it does look like there's one option where you work with the same designer vs. a pool of designers. But it costs quite a bit more.
Once I get the time and energy (and a budget figured out), I'll probably give it a go. I'm glad you posted!
