Notorious Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger was killed Tuesday at a West Virginia prison, according to three people briefed on the situation.
The people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said a fellow inmate with Mafia ties is being investigated for the slaying at the US Penitentiary Hazelton.

1. I am SHOCKED he lasted as long as he did. There was a very recent documentary about the Boston/NY/Philly mob which he was on talking about being an informant. I bet that had to do with it.
2. Hazelton is the fucking LAST prison that you want understaffed. I worked in prisons for years but that on takes the cake. It was probably the most worried I have ever been and I have an office in the jail...so, lol.

I’m in Boston this shocked me honestly. He’s 89! And it seems like there must’ve been opportunities before this, I wonder how he lasted this long if he was wanted dead. I’ve havent read how he died. Crazy.
The US attorneys office put out a great statement. It said something like “we heard about the death of Bulger. Our thoughts and prayers are with his victims and their families”
I mean how much longer could a 89 yr old inmate keep going? I think I’d just let nature take its course and not possibly add time to my own sentence.
I would imagine that although people had it in for him, the value is not in taking him out per se, it’s the message that “you’re never too old, you need to look over your shoulder until your very last breath because we will get you.”
Dude, right? I cannot believe he wasn't offed decades ago.
He had been kept pretty separated since he was clearly a target. All of the people serving time for things he did, like serious time, all of the family / friends of his victims in jail (he didn’t run with 100% innocent people and the people he killed and had killed some weren’t innocent lives either so they’re likely to have friends and family Doug time) plus his age.
This was during a prison transfer and it seems unclear *why* he was being transferred at all.
But they had two people they saw enter his cell and both have prior connections to him and his past.

He was severely beaten and eyes gouged out.
Welp.
I guess sometimes what goes around really does come around.

I can assure you he hasn't been in RHU for the past 30 years. He was in general pop. As general pop as Hazelton can be because that place is fucking nuts.
I didn't see the tranfer part, now that is interesting and hope they get some more staff at least after this incident.
I do think there is a connection between the show and his murder but who knows, the mafia may just be very fucking patient people, lol.
I hope the prison doesn't get nailed with a lawsuit

He was only convicted in 2013. He disappeared in 1994 and turned up in Santa Monica in 2011. So no, he wasn't in prison for 30 years. He was living in Santa Monica!

I guess I am thinking of someone else. All these Boston white mafia guys look exactly the fucking same. White people.

No, he was actually on the run and FBI most wanted for a very long time. Over 20 years I’d say. He was found in California about five or so years back. He used to come back home to see his brother (UMass President) periodically but was finally caught in CA.
Was kept separate since caught afaik. It’s quite local to me; his origins and crime etc. crazy.

I still stand by my claim about that prison
Oh and yeah I’m sure someone was tipped about the transfer it was a set up. There were so so many people who’s lives and families ruined around here who their particular case/story never made it to the convictions and stuff; just awful.
I saw him once while he was on the run. He had come back to visit brother. I told my h looks there’s whitey and he was like wtf where I told him the car he was in. We were like whoa. Later on the news it said he had been spotted in that car in the area.
