I went this morning. Our polling place was different than usual because they anticipated so many voters, they have more polling places. So there were people there, but no lines. I feel a little helpless with my vote today though, because my Rep (Ted Lieu) is up by like 50 points in the polls, so I am pretty sure he's getting re-elected; and Feinstein is up for re-election, but her opponent is also a Dem, so not chance that seat turns red.

We early voted the first weekend it was opened. I dragged (not literally) my non voting husband with me. We had so many arguments after the 2016 election where I blamed people like him who couldn't pick a damn side and didn't make voting a priority. We researched together this time and he surprised me and voted straight ticket blue. 2 year ago would have been the first time he could vote (he got his US citizenship in 2009) so I am happy now that is finally realizing that his bullshit excuses won't work for me.
I’m hormonal and legit cry at basically everything but the fact that your husband as an immigrant was able to vote today really got to me. I’m glad he’s here, I’m glad he’s a citizen, and I’m glad he voted the way he did.
My husband is also a Croatian refugee that served in the US Navy. He knows how damaging our president is being to the USA. He is always on edge about civil war and has stated to me that our country is headed in two directions. One will end in war/separation or we unite. He feels that someone like Beto could bring this country together again.
Wow TR, this is deep. Truly moving. Thanks for sharing.
I just can’t with the trolls today.
You can't with anyone or anything ANY day. You are a weak and insecure mess. And again, anyone who does not fall in line with your false narrative equals troll. Pathetic. Great GIF though.

I shouldn't give in to the trolls today, but to the one who can't vote (I can't remember which thread you're on) because of 2 jobs and unwilling employers, a lot of states have laws that they have to give you time to vote. It's not well advertised but the radio hosts said that some employers are giving an entire day to vote...which hopefully takes less than 1 hour.
The city where I work has a voting van too. We're lucky, but it's a necessitity as many people don't have access to transportation (the city bus isn't great). In 2018 it seems like there's just no good excuse not to vote.
pretty funny that a troll is telling me to calm down about voting apathy. Lol.
I will not calm down about it bc it’s why our world is a disaster. I’m not talking about people who are already disenfranchised, who find it hard to make their bills, let alone voting. I’m talking about people who have plenty of time to waste on here “not having time” to vote when it’s important. people who could definitely make a plan and have options, who just don’t..
And yes, if you do *nothing* to fight white nationalism, then you’re no better than them.
“We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented”. -Elie Wiesel
Yes there should be better planning, but this is a perfect example for why it should be required of employers to grant time off for voting. Also it sounds like in johnlennonfan case she is going from one job to the next so going after work is not necessarily an option.
But again, to call someone a white nationalist because their employer is uncooperative is just wrong. Especially coming from someone acting holier than thou who just admitted her husband contributed to the 2016 debacle.
And oracle, don't drag me into your batshit rants. I happen to like Rachel Maddow and believe a large majority conservative white women are evil idiots so you can fuck right off with that.

I agree that there are a lot of unnecessary barriers to voting. In this *particular* case, there are a few things the poster could/should have foreseen to avoid it being a problem today and the fact that she’s just working out notice at one job makes it a little easier to say “just screw your job”, I would never say that to someone who was counting on that job to continue employing them. But I would find the white nationalist rhetoric hyperbolic in that poster’s case. The people purely being lazy, sure. And agreed on the glass houses thing re: the 2016 election.

I voted over lunch. My polling station was very empty. I just moved in August so I don't know what is typical for this polling location. Everyone else on my page in the voting booklet said "voted by mail".
This asshole voted! It was almost an hour wait. My precinct is mostly dem and the next one over is mostly R. Both vote at my sons school. The line for my precinct was out the door, the other line was only 2 or 3 people at the most so I'm taking this as a good sign!

I reprimanded my husband and told him he helped out in this mess. I throw stones at my own house, often. I’m pretty sure my anger is why he learned his lesson.

See I really want to have sympathy for johnlennonfan because at least she is not back peddling but early voting has been open for like two weeks now. If there was any remote possibility that you couldn't vote on the actual voting day why not go any of those other days. It just seems like more BS and laziness.
I have a kind of tangent question - how does your precinct split up people? Ours does last names A-H, I-P, Q-Z. I am in I-P and it is always so much longer than any other line. I waited an hour and my neighbor with an S was in and out in about 20 minutes. This has been consistent through all the elections I've voted in at different times during the day.

Ours doesn't. Any worker can check you in so just one line. Usually 3 0r 4 people checking people in.

15 states still don't allow early voting. Because making voting easy means the wrong people can vote.
Our polling place is at a local school and for some reason they are still in session today. I heard it was a mess with parking, teachers, buses. You'd think they would have thought ahead!

Ours is a school too and while they were closed, they were having parent teacher conferences. It was a hot mess.

Thanks for educating me. I did not know this. SO fucked up.
No big wait but there were about 30 people there at a little after 11 am. About half olds and about half mid 40s and under.
It was a huge thunderstorm so I was surprised it was that many. There are a lot of polling places in my neighborhood too, there are 3 more in less than a mile so mine draws from a pretty small area.
I was in and out in less than five minutes. It was me and a little old lady there and that was it; hoping it was due to the time of day and not the lack of turnout.

mrssandro, no early voting in my county. You could vote absentee in person, but you had to have a reason for being unable to vote day of. I'm in Virginia.
