Is there any way we could make the @ content in a spoiler link so this can be the Election Day thread? Or start a new thread with no @ ?
Coming back to the midterm update thread for this is killing me.
And I’m voting today with a friend at 10, and then we are going to go have a boozy lunch and shop at the mall (about an hour away) to kill time until returns tonight.
Ds trailed Rs by ~100,000 at this point in 2014. Granted, Cory Gardner won that year, but so did our D governor. I think CO's large unaffiliated population leans left.
Yeah, I mean, I meant that statement in a positive way.
I'm still really anxious about the final results (country wide, not just here).
Oops! I agree, then.
This morning as I got dressed I had flashbacks to 2 years ago putting on a blue skirt with a huge amount of excitement. And then I had to leave work early the next day because I was so crushed. So I definitely get the trepidation!
That’s interesting, I’ve never seen a ballot that gives you the option to vote a straight party ticket. Do a lot of states do it that way?
I asked this question here in 2016 (or maybe 2014?) because I had always assumed "straight ticket voting" meant you filled in every circle for each candidate accordingly. Apparently it's not uncommon, but not the majority, to have such a single-box option.
We used to have that option here (Iowa) but they did away with it this year.

My precinct was packed, though I was still in and out because there are lots of check-in tables and poll workers. I always vote around the same time so I definitely noticed an increase and the scanners showed relatively high numbers (I was #67 for my one machine, but there are 5-6 machines and that was one of the ones on the far end that don't get as many people scanning).
Only time will tell what this means. We have a close House race and I am under no assumption that higher turnout means the D candidate will win, since it is just as likely that the Trump supporters are out in full force too. So I'm nervous. I was walking back to the car near one of the D challenger volunteers who was nearby with signs, and one guy walked by and started yelling at her because he supports the R incumbent (and Trump). Cognizant of the fact that I had my kid with me, I walked by and just said loudly to them, "He got my vote!" and told the man to just go inside and vote and not make a scene here. He obliged. But what a jerk.

We have it here in PA, and after I click it I will go through and make sue it clicked the right options.

That’s what I thought it meant (filling in every circle for one party). I’ve only ever voted in Colorado so I didn’t realize that was a thing.
Our polling place was empty apparently, but it always is. It's a tiny precinct and before 2016, they moved us to another location so we are the only precinct there. We used to share space with two larger precincts, but I think they wanted more space for those because they always had ridiculous lines. We'd roll up and get to our 5 voting machines and be in and out while the other precinct's line didn't move at all. I'll probably drive past the other precinct today and it will likely be packed.
My tiny (population 351) little town's polling place had a line 15 people deep right at opening. I'm in Iowa. I usually vote absentee so I don't know if that's typical.
My polling location was filled with older white men voting. Not a lot of women, POC and no one in my age range. I really hope our generation shows up for this one but this morning has me worried.

I've always seen it on voting machines where you can press the "straight ticket" option and it will just light up all the selections next to the correct candidates automatically.
That is DEFINITELY the option I'm choosing this year. TBH, I usually do that, then change individual offices to other candidates if I want to. This year, though, all Dems.
I'm really annoyed because I was hoping to vote this morning before work, and long story short MH convinced me to wait until after work so we can do it together. If there's a long line he's going to complain. That's why I wanted to do it by myself this morning - he has off today (all this week, in fact) and he could've gone on his own at any point during the day. Ugh.
I posted to a neighborhood FB group to ask what it's been like at our polling place, so hopefully it's not too bad.
I had to do fasting blood work, and today was as good of a day as any, so I left my house around 6:40 and didn't vote before work (my usual preference). I'll be able to go straight there after. I anticipate the lines being longer after work than before work. *Usually* the lines are fairly short (my town is about 6500 people, divided into 3 wards/locations), although there were a good 30 people in line when I got there at 6:45 AM in 2016.

I don’t want two threads. It’s going to be super annoying all day if thins are getting posted twice. So my vote is to keep this one and use spoiler tags, or lock it and move to a new one.
I usually like to wait until today to turn in my ballot, and then do the drive through hand in option because of the people, and stickers, and flags and such since mail in ballots are boring. This year I didn't do it because I wanted to be damn sure that it was turned in on time and I had a chance to double check that it was accepted.

Voting after work. Eanted to go this morning but couldn't make that happen, schedule-wise. I drove by one polling place this morning and the parking lot was pretty packed (8 am). So good sign.
It's not my district, but I'm super excited for MN's 5th district. Ilhan Omar, who is objectively awesome, is extremely likely to win her race.

I voted this morning. In my city, you have the choice between doing a paper ballot or touchscreen. I always do paper ballot just out of preference. This morning, I was able to walk right up to the table, get my paper ballot, fill it out in 30 seconds (no wait for privacy booths), and leave. Meanwhile, people kept getting in line for the two touchscreens on hand and were complaining about the wait. I just...don't get it. If you don't like the wait, use the wait-free paper option? We only have a handful of races, so filling out the bubbles is neither hard nor time-consuming! PLUS you don't have to worry about potentially insecure voting machines!
One thread please! Two threads will be SUPER annoying.
penguin hid her picture. Sounds like a good solution - if you want to post a picture of yourself with your kid at the polling place/with a voter sticker, spoiler tag it and move along. I hope it's OK if someone mentions having a child with them while voting.

I have voted in states that had a straight ticket option, and you could go in and change certain votes. In Kansas this week, I didn't see that option - I manually went through and selected the dem option.
I thought it was interesting - I was able to print and review my ballot to ensure that my votes had been properly cast, and then re-insert it into the box. I thought that was nice.

No, we have some people that are super sensitive to child content, and I want to respect that.

I'd really prefer that seeyalater52 not have to see any @ content. I'd much rather have her here and comfortable.
