wildrice, I think just about every county/city in the DC area has a Dept. of Community and Human Services or similar that run holiday sponsorship programs. My church works with Alexandria City's, and you can sponsor a family or a senior citizen. I'd guess that most local governments have similar options.
I honestly get more excited about shopping for our holiday family than I do for my own!

It's a rainy Tuesday that feels like a Monday. I have to travel to an event tonight. It's somewhat localand only 2 hours but I wont' get home until after 7 and I'm already ready for bed.
Thanks for the reminder on giving trees, gotta get a tag or two.
puppylove64 I've never had cornbread stuffing. And actually, it sounds kind of gross to me. I like cornbread just fine, but it's not the same as regular bread, consistency-wise. I make my stuffing with regular white bread, but I do not add any meat to mine.
My Thanksgiving Menu is getting out of control and I'm not sure when I'm going to find time to make everything. Luckily my SIL is coming over early the day of to help me with the stuff that can't be made ahead, but I'm already stressing.
I need ideas to get stains out of my carpet. After my dog was sick last week, there are still two spots that I can't get out and they are right smack in the middle of the carpet, so there's no hiding them. I'm running out of ideas. AND now she ate a pen yesterday (thanks for leaving that out DH) and I have a huge ink stain in the carpet. I'm open to any and all ideas/products because I'm out.
Make a paste with baking soda and blue Dawn dish soap. Spread it on the stain and let it dry. Wipe up what you can and then scrub out the rest. It works for me for dog mess without fail, not sure about ink though.

Thank you! I am going to look into this. I have done similar things in the past, but it's been a few years (and obviously not in my current location). I agree it's a lot of fun shopping!
namasteak, I am sorry that it was not what you wanted, but I still think it can be lovely. My l&d with K was so much better than my first. Perhaps because it was not my first and so I knew what to expect, at least within reason, and I was ready to be done. lol
K had her allergy testing done today and now all of her seasonal allergies are gone and only dust mites remain. We see the pulmonologist in a couple of weeks.
@neener cleo29 I'm not actually too upset since I was considering delivering at the hospital because I love my OBGYN so much. Its more that the choice isn't mine. Does that make sense? I'm actually kind of excited for a new birthing experience!

I do get it and I hope it will be a good experience. I loved my nurse for my second delivery and I appreciated the honesty from my first who told me bluntly how long I should expect to be pushing as a first time mom.
I do think it is those people who really make the experience good or bad even more than the location. They are the ones helping to take care of you and your baby and that is what you will remember. So glad that you love your doctor, that goes a long, long way.
Will you find out the sex of the baby before delivery?

YES! I have the genetic testing blood draw on Tuesday and should hear in about a week =)

So exciting!! I might be over invested in this. lol
I feel so confused and lost..... everybody doesn’t eat cornbread dressing?!?! People put sausage and weird breads in there instead.... 😳
First of all, it’s stuffing, and I never had cornbread stuffing until I was in my late twenties (and it was Stove Top cornbread flavor). Stuffing = white bread mixed with poultry seasoning, onions, celery, and apples, sautéed in butter.

I've never had cornbread stuffing! I always use my grandmother's recipe, ripped up Italian bread, onions, celery, lots of fresh herbs, and a crap ton of butter. I have started adding sausage/turkey stock and using less butter since I bake mine outside the turkey, just to get some of the meaty taste my grandmother's had from actually being stuffed in the bird.
The key to additional meaty taste is ATK’s/Cook Illustrated’s recipe - buy an extra pack of turkey wings. Poke with holes to let the fat render, sear turkey wings (cut off the tips) and then once browned, pour the drippings on top of the bread mix and lay the wings out on top of the bread mix and bake.
DH is such a bed hog lately! He has been taking over our queen bed so I have less than half and gets mad when I try to ask (or push if he doesn’t listen) him back over to his side. I’m seriously considering selling our queen with new comfy linen bedding because I’m so tired of being woken up because he is stretching against me ir when I can’t even roll over without running into him.

Stovetop is disgusting and that doesn’t count! I’ll make you some real cornbread dressing

It's only "stuffing" if it's stuffed inside the bird. I make "dressing" for Thanksgiving, non-cornbread, and it's delicious

I don’t eat “dressing”. The only thing that’s worth eating is what’s stuffed inside the bird, food borne illness be damned.
