I have a thermador and love it. It’s gas, it has 5 burners of varying sizes and has a keep warm setting that turns off and on automatically. It’s my first gas range so maybe I just like that more than I should. I also have one of their dishwashers and HATe it.

I forget if my FIL has a Wolf or Viking but he complains that the electric lighter for the range rarely works. It is a known issue, it’s always been this way, despite having multiple repair people out to look at it, and he has to keep a box of matches or one of those lighter sticks next to the range. For an appliance that he thinks cost $8-10k in 2007, that is absolutely insane. My range, on the other hand, hasn’t started immediately like 5x in nearly 11 years and was maybe $12-1500?
DH wants a Thermador but we are going with a high end GE Monogram which he actually thinks might be better.
The ILs have a Thermador they bought 20 years ago. It is a gas stove and an electric oven, which allows for convection cooking and better heat control. It has a centre grill for bbqing and they hate it and never use it since it smokes up the whole house. It may be that their hood fan isn’t adequate to keep up with it but they even open up all the windows and it is gross. They just bbq outside in the middle of the winter.
They have loved everything else about it. MIL got a follow up call after owning it for two years (way back when) and was describing what she did and did not like. Since she gave them an honest review and actually used the thing they then sent her a full set of All-Clad pots that she still uses. Apparently everyone else they surveyed said that they bought it for looks.
She is starting to have issues with the lighting mechanism on one burner. It’s not striking anymore so she doesn’t use it and lights it with a lighter if she really needs the fourth burner. I’m sure she could get a replacement part and a service call but I think it’s an issue like three times a year and she has become very frugal about weird things since retirement (and very speedy on others).
The GE Monogram we are looking at is 36”, has 6 burners with flip wok tops and every single one goes from 200btu to 1800btu. It has an electric convection oven as well that can take caterer size pans and has bread proofing settings (so excited).
The kicker is we need a high powered fan and an air make up for the furnace so that adds $3000 to our construction bill. Our builder is kind of shocked by our selection. We had to explain to him that we cook at home every night and go out maybe once a month. We both like to cook from scratch and DH has been spoiled by the Thermador growing up. We will put this beast to very good use.

We have the range version of this and love it! We did a separate oven with French doors and the advantium oven.
We were initially going to do a thermador range. But once we decided on the French door oven, it made the most sense to do all Monogram appliances so we could get the dishwasher and hood for free.
We have a gas (propane) Thermador cooktop that we love. The simmer burners are great.
We spent a lot of time talking to the guy at the appliance store before making a decision on models/ brands. Our appliance guy has taken classes from different manufacturers to learn about the products, and he really helped us based on our needs and the feedback he has received about the different brands/ models, performance and repair histories.
We don't have any other Thermador appliances though...our oven is Bosch.

badgergrl, I have a subscription and I saw that as well. My beef with that is they aren't doing an apples to apples comparison. If you test a dual fuel against an all gas range, I'm not surprised the DF scores better with baking.

aprilsails, yeah...I think we are going to end up needing make up air, too :::cries:::
We looked at the Monogram and I was leaning in that direction, given the price, but my H is an engineer and SUPER picky. He liked the build quality of the Wolf and the Thermador more than the Monogram.

Ha! I’m a specifying consulting engineer and I think it has taught me to trust that everything will fail no matter what you specify! Or that the contractor will install it wrong, or that you can pay for the Cadillac and it comes out of the same plant as the Chevette.
DH is the one who obsessively researched the options for appliances. I think he’s good with the Monogram since he could not have talked me into the price point required for the Thermador. This is already a stretch in my opinion.

Lol. Oh absolutely. He is (and admits) he's SUPER anal. Like we were looking at the GE and he was like "see how there's a wave there in the metal?" I squinted and looked at it six ways to Sunday and finally said "Uhh. No." Hahahaha. He's giving me 98% free reign on the remodel so if wants to go Wolf or Thermador...meh, I'll let him dictate that. And I hear you. It's an insane amount of money. Initially I wanted a 48" until I saw the prices, haha.
Also, I wanted to mention...if you haven't purchased yet... So the retailer here told me they are rebranding from "GE Monogram" to just "Monogram". He has a showroom model that had the old branding and was willing to do a deep discount if I wanted it. If you haven't purchased, you may want to see if anyone is see if anyone is selling a floor model, if you'd be okay with that.

What do you hate about the dishwasher?
Well it doesn’t load or unload itself. Jk!! It leaves little particles on everything so we end up rinsing everything afterwards . We pre rinse all dishes before they go in and it still smells bad and it never dries the dishes.

It probably is best for them to drop the GE- I can tell you that their electrical panels are made out of tinfoil (not actually, but almost). We’ve pre-ordered for the Spring with a 35% discount based on some anniversary sale a couple of months ago. I’ll have my DH double check though! We could store it at my ILs house.

We have a thermadore dishwasher we love and we don’t have those problems.

Maybe we got a lemon or the prior owners abused it. Idk. But it’s really bad. They’ve had some recalls too but our serial number was just outside the range recall numbers. The customer support was less than helpful too since we weren’t the original purchasers.

Have you had repair folks out? I’d try that first and if that doesn’t help, invest in a new one. All that effort is way too much work. Our brand new (old house) dishwasher was amazing - no need to even rinse dishes before loading up. I didn’t think it was a big deal until we moved and I went back to an “okay” washer. (It was a midrange GE)

How much are repair folks? We called one place and it was $100/hour plus any parts which seemed almost worth just buying a new one.
sandandsea, we went thru GE with our old one. The first time, it was $100 (flat rate) and no parts needed (I guess a glass had broken and they just took apart the dishwasher and removed it) and was worth it. The second time it was $100 and it was a lost cause (the part alone was like $300, which wasn't worth it) but they gave us a code so that if we bought another GE, they'd give us a $100 gift card.
Basically I think you should do whatever you need to have a working dishwasher. Hand washing dishes is something I hate. If your DH can get a $500 personal transportation device, your family can get a new dishwasher.
