Vacation Help: Where would you go?

So, we were terrible planners and waited too long to get our airline tickets, and now they're over $500 for round trip for two people.

DH is thinking we should cancel our trip, but we'd like to go somewhere anyway because the ILs are expecting to take M for that week, and we'd like to celebrate our anniversary somehow.

That being said, we can always wait until the last minute and try to get one of those really good deals on flights when it's really up to the last minute, but I'd hate to do that and have nothing be available.

We're okay spending about $400 total on roundtrip tickets, but no more than that if we can help it.

October 9th-12th, and we were going to go to Vegas.

Fly to San Fran area? Drive to Mt. Hood or Crater Lake? Float plane to Roche Harbor! Or go stay at Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop where they have hiking, a pool, horseback riding, mountain biking, etc.

Or if you would like something a bit more rustic how about the Scottish Lakes cabins?

Yikes. $400 for 2 tickets now a days is sometimes unheard of. I just found 2 tickets on Alaska Air for $471 total and think that's a good idea.

You could always drive to San Francisco. Careful though, hotel prices might be slightly ridiculous.

Do you already have a place to stay in vegas? If not, you definitely get a better deal if you do hotel and air packaged together.

This. I would try and package it together. Expedia usually has crazy package deals for Vegas.

Also, try and fly out of Bham. Allegient air flies direct to Vegas from Bham and sometimes their tickets are super cheap.

They have air + rooms at the Bellagio for just over $650/person, TI for $440, Mandalay $417, Luxor for $313

Booking as a package is way cheaper, I found it for 390pp at MGM Grand. You could always wait and see and do a road trip to Portland or Vancouver at the last minute. Also there are usually a ton of flight to San Francisco so that could be another last minute option.

I agree with grabbing one of the package deals to Vegas.

Otherwise I'd find the cheapest tickets I could to some pleace on the West Coast and just go.

$500 for two people is not "good", but it's not bad for LV. if you want 400 or less, you're looking at very select flights to norcal or something.
