I like my first name a lot, but the common diminutive for it sounds strippery to me (like, the stripper's real name, not her stage name). If you add my middle name to it, it is Texan strippery to me.
But people really, really like to shorten my name, so I get it a lot.
Luckily, there's a shorter nickname that has its disadvantages (unisex; kind of informal) but I like. I don't think any partner has ever been willing to call me by it though (most other people I work with do).

My name is Melinda. I HATE Linda which is what my grandma calls me. Not a nn, but I also hate all the other 'M' names I get called - Melissa, Michelle, Meredith, Melanie. I really despise all the cutesie nn too like honey and sweetie. I am 31 now but I always have. If someone is five, they're fine. Otherwise, um no.
my name is one of those oft hated on mm kay_____ names. i hate being called 'kay'. my name is not hard to pronounce and it's only 2 syllables so it isn't exactly taxing to use my whole name.
the only nickname i really like is "ben" - shortened form of my maiden name, and it's only used by friends who knew me long before i was married.

I hated being called 'kid' by anyone not family. My oldest (by 8 years) sister's BFF in college did it the most. Ugh.
In general my policy is if you don't know me very well don't shorten my name, period. Also don't call me kid, kiddo etc. And I hate it when people in a professional setting call me honey, sweetie etc. Bleck.
My dad calls all my sisters and I kiddo. Always has and always will. My oldest sister calls me kid even now that I'm 26 and she's 34. For the most part only my immediate and extended family call me by nicknames. Some friends, but not very many. H doesn't even shorten my name. He does call me Honey and Sweetheart instead though.
Luckily with having a 3 letter first name there are no nicknames for me.
Strangers have called me kiddo before and it makes me rage-y. They are also the same people that assume because I look young that I must still be a college student but that's for another thread.
ETA: My maiden name is a body part and people always found that funny for some reason and would try to give me nicknames due to that but they never stuck around
