Michigan and Wisconsin have newly elected incoming Democrat governors, but still (R) Congresses. While they still have their current governors they are both holding "extraordinary" sessions to try to pass legislation that will limit gubernatorial powers. Similar to what NC tried to pull back in 2016.
And yet we can't have a President appoint a SCOTUS justice at any point in his last year on the job because "the people need to be heard." Right? I think the people were heard here, and they (Rs currently in power) are responding in rebuttal to the people's calls.

The WI stuff is ruining my life right now. Tying the new governor's hands on the fucking Medicaid waiver is just such an incredible bummer and it's moving so quickly that not much can be done. UGH. I'm so frustrated.
This is EXACTLY what happened in NC. GOP had both houses and the governorship. Then a Dem won the governor race, and while they had a supermajority, the GOP stripped the governor of many of his powers. Some of the powers were returned after court battles. Some not.

Serious question: what happens in the future when an R gets back in the governorship?
Can these assholes not ass past their noses?
One would think so considering the chess match to get to this point with the back to back conservative judges on the Supreme Court but then they do shit like this and the obvious answer is no, they’re too worried about their groundwork being undone.
I am seeing more articles today about this vicious attack on democracy.
I remember how my high school history teacher was almost reverent when she explained how incredibly unusual the peaceful transition of power was when the US was founded. I wonder how she feels today.

I hope the new governor sues and their plan falls apart. I know up-thread NC was mentioned, I don't quite understand the specifics but hopefully WI governor is even more successful than NC governor with a lawsuit.
Have the D’s ever done this? What I really hate is when I get worked up about something the Republicans do and then find out the Democrats have done the same thing in the past.

Back in 1898, Democrats in Wilmington ignored an election and forced the winning Republicans to step down at gunpoint. Spoiler: it was all about white supremacy. In 2017, North Carolina's GOP executive director brought it up as an example of hypocrisy from Democrats, since they stole an election over a century earlier.
From my perspective, if you have to go back over a century to accuse your opponents of doing what you're currently doing today, your argument is flawed.

Awesome, thank you! I tried Googling, but the only thing that was coming up was the current situation. I just always like to be prepared for the “whataboutism” that comes from conservatives during these times.

Back then weren't the parties reversed? Like the Republican party was 'liberal' for the times and the democratic party were the pro-slavery southerners?
I could be wrong but I think they switched over FDRs New Deal.
If I am right then it was still the same people doing it back then lol.

I think "it was all about white supremacy" is the key point to keep in mind, regardless of what else the parties may have switched on!
Remember they “wanted to let the people’s voices be heard” when he was nominated ten months or so prior to an election? Well, the people voted, their voices heard. This was their decision. And NOW the Republicans want to go back to “but while we’re here...”
