I have all the books I could need, and what more could I need than books? I shall only engage in commerce if books are the coin. -- Catherynne M. Valente

Did you see last night's Daily Show?
Jessica Williams: I'm black AND a woman. We don't even have to apply to college. We just send in a headshot, and they send us back a diploma. Which reminds me, I've been meaning to mail this out...<holds up headshot>...med school graduation, here I come!
Daddy Romney was born in Mexico, not Mittens. (Unlike my fellow Panamanian, McCain)
Oh, that makes more sense. I had not thought he was born in Mexico but in the video it sounds like he said he was . . . he must have been referring to his dad when he said he wished he had been born to Mexican parents.

Mitt made a "joke" that if his FATHER had been born to Mexican parents, and therefore a Mexican immigrant (George Romney was an American by birth because his parents were American), he would have had life easy or something. I guess he meant "not-white" Mexicans. Because... Mexicans can be white. Also, I guess he meant that Mexican immigrants have life easier than he does, a guy who has a $100 million retirement account.
I really want to know more about this Mexican Mormon colony.
I read a really interesting book once about a woman who escaped from a Mexican Mormon colony. They were polygamists who moved to Mexico to avoid persecution.

Oh yeah, I've been meaning to ask this, so does this mean that his grandparents were polygamists?

I don't know a lot about it, but I first learned of it when reading Shattered Dreams by Irene Spencer. She was in the FLDS and was one of ten wives. Apparently a fair number of polygamists went to Mexico and set up camp. I'm not surprised that George Romney's family was initially on welfare, as the poverty Spencer describes in her book is really quite alarming.

According to Wikipedia, George Romney's grandparents - so Mittens' great-grandparents - were polygamists who fled to Mexico.

Lol. I thought of Hollis Green, too. But for real I think there's still a colony, not just one that exists on HBO, and I think it has over 1000 people.
There are also colonies in Canada, mostly in BC. Bountiful is the big one that comes to mind, but I think there are a few others.

If you're only half black you still have to attend for 2 years, FYI.
