question, do the troops really want to be visited or is it more of a hassle for them?
The troops aren't a monolith so I can only speak for my own husband, but he had Lester Holt and the NBC crew visit them and film for Thanksgiving one year that he was in Afghanistan, and he said it was a complete circus.
So, I'm sure a Presidential visit is probably a hassle. I'm sure there are probably also at least some people who are excited to see him though.
LOL I get that - but I guess I am thinking of the last time I actually looked up to notice the type of plane that was flying over head. I don't do it often, if ever.
There are people that do weird things for hobbies. A guy at work listens to railroad scanner chatter, and pops out of his office to watch the train go by every time. He's even visited gigantic switchyards for vacations. So watching planes isn't out of the norm for people like him.
This isn’t uncommon at all. I bring my scanner on all train trips to listen to the chatter.

My dad was a commercial pilot and could look at a plane in the sky and identify it as a Fronteir or United and based on the time and direction even estimate sometimes the specific one... Probably Flight 93 to Seattle or whatever. He was also an annoying person with 20/10 vision so he could make out things the rest of our family couldn’t. But was trained to be able to Identify aircraft at a distance and the speed and trajectory at a glance.
As for who spotted this in England I’m going to imagine crop circle and ufo conspiracy theorists with holiday time on their hands and binoculars in their pocket. 🤪
My dad could do this with small planes thanks to his time in the military.

The gesture I’m sure is appreciated. It does result in a circus though, requires a lot of coordination and making sure the “right” people are there for events. and there’s always people who still have to work and miss out etc.
The pool report went on to say that Trump paused to take a selfie with U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Kyu Lee, who said he was the chaplain for SEAL Team Five, based out of Coronado, California. The chaplain said Trump told him: “Hey, in that case, let’s take a picture.”
After Trump left Iraqi airspace, the president posted a video to his Twitter account of his time spent with American forces during his visit to Iraq. Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA,” plays over the video and shows the president and the first lady posing for pictures with service members that appear to be from SEAL Team Five. The special warfare operators are dressed in full battle gear and wearing night vision goggles.

Kind of both. I mean, it’s a huge hassle, but I was in Afghanistan in 2010 when Obama came to visit, and it meant a lot to me personally, so it was worth the hassle. I was be more annoyed at Trump because I think he’s been using the military as pawns.
Also, he was only there for 3 hours. And I’m fairly certain the shots you see of smiling troops are more likely happy to see Melania because she’s a beautiful woman. To my knowledge, no other First Lady has visited a combat zone, so that’s something.

This is terrifying...especially for those service men/women and their families!

She wore combat boots too, lol. As always, in costume for the event at hand.
I would hope the President would be examining this kind of data and info, since its release coincided with his takeover, and discovering best practices to implement as policy. But, no. We are continuing failed practices that now trickle down to children, only now we are doing it with racism as its main motivation.
So, I can’t like this comment (obviously). But I wanted to quote you to applaud your clarity and brevity on the subject. Well done.
THAT MOTHERFUCKING SECURITY-DESTROYING POS NEEDS TO JUST STFU ALREADY. Somehow he manages to be worse than I could have predicted or feared, every fucking time.

My brother is medically retiring two years early and when I read shit like this I’m both relieved and so goddamn angry at this idiot. He is the fucking worst.

So, releasing this video on twitter seems like a really big deal. On the one hand I am not surprised. On the other it is still unbelievable and terrifying.

See: using the military as pawns. He dgaf if he endangered those seals’ lives by posting photos on social media. In his mind they are only there to make him look good, job done, now he doesn’t have to pretend to care anymore.

The Navy ops thing is...something. Isn’t there someone who would tell him OPSEC about pictures and stuff?
What is going on with the market? Worst Christmas on record, worst day in a year and a half, then yesterday biggest gain ever, and today plunged 500 points.
And, per CNN: Kevin Hassett, the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, told reporters Wednesday that Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's job is "100%" safe, despite Trump's vocal complaints about the central bank's decision to raise interest rates -- including in comments to reporters on Christmas Day.
Hassett instead blamed market volatility on "fundamentals," noting, "Growth in Europe has slowed; growth in Asia has slowed." But he said the US economy continues to be strong.

Remember when Cohen posted a picture of the outside of his passport as some sort of proof he’d never been there? That still makes my top ten list of dumbest moments from this entire thing.
I can't decide if he knew it was a shaky diplomatic area, and went with the purpose of getting the US kicked out... or if he did it because Iraq sounded like he might be in danger, but not really in danger such as if he visited Afghanistan.

I'm so torn on this. I 100% believe that Steele is a damn good operative and has great sources. BUT there aren't many more facts to verify before we just have a pee tape left. While I would love for Trump to be humiliated, I don't want an American president to have a pee tape.

I’ve seen this discussed in terms of his (Cohen’s) refusal to commit to a formal cooperation agreement. He had some secrets he insisted on keeping (though claimed, of course, it was to keep others out of trouble), & some are guessing this instance was one (the MAIN one?) he was attempting to hide/ gloss over. DH and I are going to Prague in February. We’ve already been there a few times so we were discussing attractions we’ve missed previously. I can’t wait for him to come home later and tell him we can visit the cell tower that Michael Cohen’s phone pinged.

Velar Fricative SO JEALOUS!! Prague is on my hopefully-not-too-far-off Europe agenda for sure!! Just in case it’s not on your list- one of my main wanna-see’s: the Strahov Library. Sigh.

I’m kind of surprised by cohen’s tweet today denying again he’s been to Prague. I thought he was fully flipped, understood trump shows no loyalty to him and that mueller is not someone to lie to. Is he still lying and his cooperation has not been complete? Or is he actually telling the truth? Either way, what was gained by tweeting? It seems really stupid to be having anything to say but “no comment” in public now.
