I was expecting Kasich to be the villain of the story regarding the abortion bill, not the good guy. Yikes. Ohio is supposed to be a swing state, and it’s about to enact one of the most stringnent abortion bills on the records?

I really dont see us as a viable swing state anymore. The gerrymandering in Ohio is ridiculous. I also think a lot of those union blue votes are now turning more red due to racism and such.
So, Kasich will be announcing his 2020 bid any day now? As an independent trying to use these vetoes to prove he’s a “moderate”?
I don't care for Kasich at all and don't consider him to be moderate, but I do think the vetoes are in line with the type of governor he's always been and where his priorities lie. Vetoing the heartbeat bill had nothing to do with the restrictions and everything to do with the costs associated with it going to court down the line.
It's troublesome that his party is leading the charge here. I don't like the implications for the future of our state. And yes, we're much more red than blue now thanks to racism in rural areas. I can't see us blue for 2020.

Ah, okay. It felt like a political stunt to look moderate to those outside of OH. I have definitely long stopped seeing OH as a swing state.
How are we defining a moderate Republican these days? If it's in comparison to the Republican party currently in power, then I do think Kasich is moderate. Historically, no, but today, yes.

This I can agree with, shockingly. He's stayed true to who he has been during his time in office, and 8 years ago I wouldn't have considered that to be moderate at all. But compared to what we're seeing now? Yeah...

I still think it was a political stunt. He signed the Medicaid work requirements bill and didn’t seem worried one bit about the costs associated with implementing them or the years of expensive litigation that will follow their implementation. He’s not being consistent he’s taking a (fairly minor) stand on what he knows is a hot-button national election issue. Also he’s an idiot because taking a stand on protecting Medicaid probably would have helped him more in the primaries.

If it weren't for his brother, I doubt Kasich would give a second thought about following his party's stance of Medicaid. I don't find that admirable. I find it egotistical.

My point is that he hasn’t been consistent on other issues, which makes me pretty certain he’s playing a political game in his recent decisions around abortion bills. I certainly don’t find him admirable in any way.

I’m pretty sure the right has been expecting to use this bill as an opportunity to overturn Roe v Wade because they want this to go all the way to SCOTUS and since we have Screamy McBeerRape now on the courts I think we’d be fucked if this happened.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

Thankfully the “heartbeat bill” didn’t get the votes needed to override in the Senate. They’re going to have to find another bill for their test case (not hard sadly, there may be some out there currently I lose track.)
