The fact that he didn’t know her reminds me Of that horrible story in CT, where a random guy followed two girls home from the grocery store and killed them And their mom and dad witnessed it all while tied up. The randomness is horrifying

The few details that have come out about the murderer give me the impression of him being an incel. The incel community is one of the biggest terrorist threats in the world, and scare the crap out of me.
I hope Jayme Closs is finding comfort right now, and finds a great support system.

Wow. That is unbelievable. Her story reminds of the show called The Missing. I think it was on showtime but involved girls being kidnapped and the parents attempting to find them.
I’m wondering how he even knew who she was. He lived 70 miles north and had only lived in the same town as Jayme very briefly several years ago. This is all so strange.
I hope Jayme will be ok, she’s being reunited with her family now.

My god. I don’t even know what to say to those details. They fell victim to a random psychopath. I want to know who his parents are and why they didn’t take steps to protect others from him. This didn’t come out of the blue. He had access to daddy’s gun as they all do.
I hope he dies in an excruciating way. He isn’t human.

Yes, this. Your shotgun goes missing the same time there is a local, well publicized double murder and you don't notice? How does that happen?

My goodness. How frightening and heartbreaking. I think people wanted to believe there was some connection because the randomness of this crime is just completely unfathomable, but...it really was that random.
There's a history there, this didn't come out of nowhere. The latest update said he was discharged from the Marines after just five weeks. Marines spokesperson says the length of service indicates that he wasn't meeting the standards and expectations of the Marines.
He used a 12-gauge because they're common. He seemed to have planned it fairly meticulously: wiping down the shells, wearing gloves, shaving himself so there was no body hair to leave at the scene, exchanging license plates and disconnecting lights... I'm wondering if he replaced the gun back on the rack so it wasn't missing for his parents to know it was used. He seemed to have thought out a lot of the other tiny details.
But I'm also wondering how the hell his parents didn't notice things like he'd shaved off all his body hair. Plus his personality traits being what they are should have clued *someone* in. Kicked out of the Marines at just over a month in because of personality traits, the type of person he is in the first place, where he was all the time because he certainly wasn't home when he was terrorizing her.
And if he'd washed out of the Marines because of personality issues, this is why we need **thorough** background checks, including mandatory military and mental health institutions reporting, to at least put a "ding" on the report for further checks before giving an okay. Yeah, I know he used his dad's gun but if he had the notation on his file after he was washed out, his dad should also have been held responsible if he was keeping his guns at ready access to someone who was known as someone who should not have access. (If I typed this on my local page, there would be quite a number of Gun Rights folks cueing the "You lock up guns and they're useless if someone comes a-knockin'" arguments. We had one just yesterday as a matter of fact.)
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I never heard him being charged with rape. Is it possible that he held her all this time and never sexually assulted her? I’m seriously praying that’s the case!

It’s possible but I don’t know if thats necessarily true. From what I read on NPR: Authorities said criminal charges stemming from Jayme's time in captivity would not be filed, meaning information about her confinement could remain private.

I think they had enough on him with the kidnapping and double murder that they didn't need to add anything else. I think they're trying to protect Jayme
The murders and kidnapping occurred in Barron County; she was held in Douglas County. Patterson pled to the Barron County charges. As part of the plea deal, Douglas County will not bring any charges. There is no reason for anything that may have occurred in Douglas County to be made public information.

What others said. The sexual assault would have occurred in a different jurisdiction than the one he plead in. There is no further reason to drag this out if he is already doing life. It also protects her from very private, horrific details from coming out.
