Marshall's and Ross. It's never a sure thing but I have bought my husband an Uggs down coat that he calls his Tom Brady coat for $120. I looked it up and it's $500 and still available at Nieman Marcus and stuff. I bought myself a nice down coat that is warm enough for Chicago for $59.

Lands End is having a winter sale right now. Last year on 1/21, I got a long down coat for $58 (normally $179). Maybe this year there will be similar sales.
My last 2 were Columbia that I bought on Amazon. I’ve found Columbia’s jackets to be really affordable and well made. My first one is about 5 years old now and I wear it almost every day in the winter (in Colorado).
farmvillelover that's what we call a jacket in the midwest. It's cute though!
Ha! I have one down "coat" that I bought like 15+ years ago and it barely gets worn lol.
I recently posted a thread about new winter coats because I realized I hadn’t bought a new one in maybe a decade. On my last East Coast trip, I discovered that the zipper on my old one was broken and I couldn’t even find the other one I thought I had. (#Californiaproblems)
I just ordered a 3-in-1 though because I think I might actually get use out of the two layers as separates.

I have an LL bean 3 in 1 that’s sinfully unfashionable but I keep it at my parents house in SSF to wear when i visit lol
I have a Marmot 700 down fill that comes mid thigh on me that I got at Marshalls 7 years ago. Its pretty warm and has done a good job in New England winters.
I am keeping my eyes out for a deal on Canada Goose because everyone seems to be wearing them here and raves about their warmth. I can wear their kid sized coats, but I'm not sure I want to spend that kind of money for the name on the sleeve. A good friend is in the outerwear business and said its all about the down count and material, not the brand

If you can avoid them, I would. Canada goose has horrible practices and has been shown to have animal cruelty practices. There are many other brands that are warm. I’m from Toronto so it gets very cold there.

Lands End is running their winter sale right now with many of their heavier jackets more than 50% off. I've worn Lands End jackets for a while and we live in the snow belt.
Thanks for all the suggestions! I'd like to stay under $100. The EB down Parka is a strong contender. Going to check out LE but their sizing is usually huge and off for me, not sure how their jackets/coats run.
The LE long down coat I have is a size smaller than my normal size and fits well.
I just got this one but I’m in southern CA where it doesn’t get too cold often
Nordstrom Halogen boiled wool asymmetrical coat
Cute! How does the sizing run? I’ve been looking for a wool coat I can wear for work on our coldest SoCal days 😆 but I may need a petite size because I’m short.
They also have this one which may be what the OP is looking for
