Well, as many guessed, it magically turned up Monday night. It took STBX all of 5 minutes to find it. It was under my dresser. And I know it wasn't there before because my mom said she felt around under it and didn't feel anything an if it was where it was when he moved the dresser she would've felt it. Also, the dog peed on the corner of the dresser this past weekend and I had to wipe underneath to clean it all up and I would've hit the ring had it been there.
I think it scared him when I mentioned filing with the insurance company and the police. If he was so worried about me making a claim when he wasn't 100% sure it wasn't somewhere in the house, then why didn't he get up Sunday night to look for it? Probably because he had to call his mom and have her bring it back so he could stash it in a place where he'd "find" it. I will be noting all of this and if we do end up in court I want my attorney to ask him, and his mother if it goes that far, about the ring when he's under oath.
Anyway, I took it to the jeweler's to have it checke to make sure none of the diamonds were switched and to get it appraised. Diamonds are fine and the appraisal for the set is $13,500. Holy shit!!!! I wasn't expecting that!!! No wonder he tried stealing it (or so I suspect).
I'd also suggest you find other important things (birth certificates, other important papers, jewelry, etc) and put it all in a safety deposit box.

Agreed. However, he keeps all our documents locked in a fire safe closet he built and to which he never gave me a key, and the spare key he kept in his desk mysteriously disappeared. Looks like I'll be taking some of my frustration out on a lock this weekend.

Jesus, he's quite a piece of work. Before you try and replicate The Italian Job, could you just ask him to give you those papers out of the locked closet?

I suppose, but knowing him he'd go through it first and take out certain documents regarding the house and/or the girls and hide them on me. Besides, this would be so much more fun. And it would be legal because my documents or documents pertaining to our DDs are in there as well.

I'd call a locksmith, tell him you lost your key and see what he'd charge to open it - probably faster, easier than you doing it. have him put a new lock on it and you keep the key. Keep the key in YOUR safety deposit box - after you remove/copy any important documents.

Also, can you scan them so you have digital copies too?
