2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? So many! - We have thr nursery halfway cleaned out. Should be finished in a week or two if all goes well. - I had a bunch of BH yesterday. I know it's normal, but I didnt have them with C really so I'm not a big fan, especially because it feels so early. - I've hit the point in pregnancy that I have to take stool softener. - I took my fasting blood sugar the other morning and it was not good. So, that's swell. I need to swap the battery in the machine though, and our strips expired a couple of months ago. Maybe that will help. - I think I've settled on Marshall for a name.
3. Questions for the group? Not really
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? The kicks/movement is for sure my favorite. It's so cool. And I'm not an AW, but I loved the attention with C as conceited as that sounds. Least favorite is the stress. It used to be fear of the unknown. Now it's fear of the known. It's actually clouding my enjoyment of pregnancy this time around
2. We emptied out and started painting DS's room this weekend, which is making everything feel like it's getting real. It's going from being an office with tons of overflow stuff filling the closet, to an actual kid room (and from yellow to blue). I am physically exhausted from doing a bunch of the painting/schlepping. I did Hobbes' room at 28 or 29 weeks, and I remember that feeling super hard, and I wanted to do this one earlier so it would be less hard. I'm bigger this time though, so I think it's basically a wash. Once it's done I'll have a place I can start organizing all the baby stuff though which I am looking forward to.
3. I'm pretty sure I had some BH contractions over the weekend. Nothing to worry about, right? They were mostly on Sat., when I swam at the Y and did 3 loads of laundry (which is in the basement, so lots of up and down the stairs).
4. I have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find a favorite about actual pregnancy, because I pretty much hate it. But: I have been wearing a workout bikini to the pool because it's the only kind of Speedo that still fits, and after swimming competitively all my life, I couldn't deal with anything loose and billowy when I'm trying to get some yards in. I definitely have more body confidence in a workout bikini pregnant than when I'm not.
Least favorite? Oh geez, let me count the ways. I hate feeling like I'm in someone else's body. I hate feeling physically enormous. I hate how much normal everyday stuff is hard, like leaning over a sink to brush my teeth, washing dishes, tying shoes. I hate the heartburn, how full I feel all the time, the round ligament pain, the hemmies, the fact that I can't ride my road bike. I miss beer, wine, sushi, flexibility, and my prior fitness levels. I hate the morning and night Colace + morning Metamucil routine that still is not enough. I miss real decongestants when I'm sick, and Advil when I'm sore. I'm just warming up here.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? We have a snow day today! I'm so excited to have an extra day to work on report cards. My comments are way longer than last year so it's taking a lot of time. I think I'm including more because I want my students to be as successful as possible once I go on leave. We also got the baby's dresser yesterday, so I am hoping we can finish putting that together today. My husband also has a snow day because so many businesses are being super cautious about the roads. And my first baby shower is coming up this weekend. I'm so excited to see my friends and family and have them celebrate this little one!
3. Questions for the group?
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? Favorite - definitely the movement. I've learned to appreciate it more as time has gone by. I am starting to understand how it must be so strange for mother's to not constantly know how baby is doing after birth. Least favorite - thinking about how I move all the time. I would like to be able to stand up, sit down, walk, turn, etc. in a carefree manner.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? -We found out last week baby 2 is a HEALTHY boy and I'm getting really excited after some initial sadness that I'll never have a girl. I started planning some adorable matching brother outfits to help pump me up and it's working. Also, DS is just the sweetest thing I have ever met so I will be thrilled if baby 2 takes after him.
-I have my NT scan on Wednesday and I'm nervous, but excited. If all goes well we're going to spread the news (including my boss which I'm nervous will be awkward).
-I've mentioned this on a few boards already, but I'm fired up so I'm going to drop it here too. LOL I'll try to keep it short. My BIL/SIL announced their pregnancy to us on Thanksgiving in front of a room full of people while I was in the midst of an IVF cycle. They're aware of my fertility struggles. Last week they called my H to invite us to brunch and my H asked if it was for a gender reveal (she's exactly 20 weeks). He said no. We went. They did reveal the gender. I called them out and he said "it's not a gender reveal. it's a gender telling". We left. I am so hurt by the lack of compassion or care for my feelings. The worst part is that they are having a girl so now people think that's why I am upset and it's TOTALLY not. We still haven't told them we're pregnant and I have no desire to do so. They can find out at 20 weeks on FB with the rest of the world.
3. Questions for the group? I don't think so.
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? Favorite - I guess that everyone around me is so excited. Least favorite - With the last pregnancy I had horrible rib pain. I hope that doesn't happen again. Also, the lack of control. My first was breech and it just made me feel like I had no say in anything.
We emptied out and started painting DS's room this weekend, which is making everything feel like it's getting real. It's going from being an office with tons of overflow stuff filling the closet, to an actual kid room (and from yellow to blue). We have a painter coming this week to paint DS' big boy room (we're moving him out of the nursery) so I spent the weekend schlepping all of DS' outgrown clothes down to the basement and all the random other crap that has found a home in there over the past 5 years we've lived there. I was super out of breath afterwards and my H couldn't stop laughing at me. I'm only 12 weeks! I'm glad we decided to just get it done early on. LOL
melmaria, we didn't meet any pedis before our first, so I don't think it's necessary. I mean, I don't interview my own doctors before making an app't, you know? It just seemed kind of extra to me. We are using the one our PCP recommended back when I was pg with #1, and in the 3+ years we've gone to them I've found I like some docs/NPs in the practice better than others, but it's been fine. You can always change if you aren't thrilled.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? We got our rocker/recliner my parents ordered us, and we ordered our crib last week! I am glad to have gotten those out of the way.
3. Questions for the group? Nothing this week
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? Favorite I would have to say is just being pregnant. It wasn’t an easy road to get here, so I am trying to remain focused on being grateful and appreciate how lucky we are. Also, the way it’s made H and I closer. I can’t wait to see him as a dad! Least favorite would be a bunch of other stuff. I don’t like the way it’s changed my friendships and how lonely it feels sometimes. I don’t like that I can’t take my regular medication and I am always sore, or how my body has changed and I am uncomfortable in it. I hate not being able to sleep even though I am exhausted! I know it will be worth it in the end however, but there are definitely things that have happened that I didn’t expect.
melmaria, we went to an event they have every couple of weeks to "meet the practice". It was after work so not a big deal. It was fine, but not necessary. We go to a big practice which I like because they can always squeeze us in.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I need to decide on daycare. There are four centers on the street I am looking at, for convenience to/from work/elementary school. One is where DS went, but their management has been in flux since DS was there and I am not thrilled about how it was when we left. One we decided against with DS, and the other two are new. We toured one and I liked it fine. Need to tour the last just to see I guess. Anyone have any experience with Goddard?
3. Questions for the group? Nah.
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? Favorite - movement, getting to eat as much as I want
Least - the physical discomfort, though I think pregnancy is pretty easy for me compared to some others' experiences.
melmaria, we have Kaiser insurance so I just picked a pedi from the list in the most convenient place. It has been fine. But DS rarely goes to the doctor so we basically just see them for well visits.
1. How far along are you this week? 24 weeks today! Time is both passing slowly and at lightening speed.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I feel like I have so many aches and pains. My poor tail bone.
I do have a random and recommendation, I'm reading Like A Mother by Angela Garbes and thoroughly enjoying it. It's informative without being scary and judgmental. I wish I had read it with my first. It would have taken a lot of pressure off. Highly recommend it.
3. Questions for the group? Nah.
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? Favorite- The baby kicks for sure. Least favorite- the exhaustion, and the little aches and pains. I feel like it's too early for waddling but I find myself doing it a lot lol
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I'm tired of feeling tired all the time. My pregnancy with DS was so much more enjoyable than this one.
3. Questions for the group? nope
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? Hmmm I guess feeling the baby move is my favorite at this point. Least favorite is how exhausted I still am all the time, and missing beer/wine. My pregnancy with DS I also felt much more confident about my body; this go around I'm gaining more weight and I just feel sloppy.
icedcoffee, your BIL and SIL are giant assholes, I'm sorry. I hope they felt properly shamed when you called them out, but I'm guessing no. So inconsiderate.
melmaria, I did not interview pediatricians or do anything beyond online reviews. I picked the practice most convenient for me. I figured there are several pediatricians within the practice and if I didn't like the one I picked I could switch. No regrets. Don't stress yourself out there.

1. How far along are you this week? 36w5d
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I made it another week and, so far, no gallbladder attacks since I left the hospital on Friday.
3. Questions for the group? No
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant?
Favorite: It's a cool experience overall--feeling the baby move, seeing her face in u/s, etc.
Least Favorite: Omg, nearly everything? With my son, I was so physically sick in first tri, but then had a dream pregnancy. This time, I skipped any real morning sickness, but have felt low level crappy nearly the whole time and really crappy the past month or so. It feels like there's always some new pain, new complication, etc.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I'm glad to be off work. I'm currently binging on A Discovery of Witches before my free trial runs out.
Contractions have slowed some, more like 1-3 per hour rather than 5-6 per hour like I had been having.
I think my H doesn't quite understand bedrest though. I think he's like, "oh cool Pooh is off work for a couple weeks, she can get stuff done around the house." Ha, no. I need to be off my feet more than on them. I'm going to get him to come to my appointment Wednesday so he can hear it from my doctor what my restrictions are.
Oh, and 2 of my coworkers offered to throw me a small shower, so that's so sweet of them!
3. Questions for the group? None I can think of.
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? Favorite has always been the kicks and rolls and movements. It's the part I miss the absolute most when I'm not pregnant and makes me sad that this is likely my last time doing this.
Least favorite is all the restrictions. I can't lift as much as usual, I can't move as fast, and I miss margaritas. ETA: and all the people asking me how I'm doing. I think I had at least 15 people ask me at church yesterday. Most got the "fine" answer, a few got "eh, so-so" and a handful got the real answer.
I am feeling so huge and uncomfortable. I have gained 11 pounds this pregnancy but feel just large and clumsy. Had a ton of BH yesterday, I know they aren’t painful but they still make me panic for a minute each time.
I am now going for twice weekly NSTs in addition to seeing MFM every couple of weeks until the end of my pregnancy. They are talking delivery at 38 weeks or sooner if my BP continues to rise. It is so hard for me to take it easy because physically, I feel fine (like I don’t have headaches, I’m not swollen, etc.) so it’s hard for me to slow down when I don’t feel like I need to, if that makes sense. I’m scared and I’m feeling overwhelmed.
No questions.
I love baby movements in pregnancy and just the general feeling of being excited. This pregnancy has been harder on me than my first and I really don’t like much else about it, lol. I hate feeling uncomfortable all the time, not sleeping well, heartburn and always feeling full. I hate that I feel out of breath even just getting in to my car or doing something else that normally wouldn’t make me be out of breath. I hate the back pain, too.
I thought of a question: is it dumb for me to hire a house cleaner from now until after I go back to work? I just can’t do it the way I used to and it’s daunting to keep up with. My H is a huge help but I also don’t want him to be consumed with it after the baby comes because he will be with my DD so much. I don’t want to seem lazy but geez. Anyone else outsource cleaning?

poppyseed, I'm sorry . I'll keep everything crossed that your BP stays normal.
I have to start going for weekly NSTs also now, since they found a ton of heart fluctuations when I was in the hospital. Same thing here--I didn't feel any different in that regard, no swelling, no high BP, etc, so it's frustrating and stressful.

Not dumb at all. We have a house cleaner every other week because I'm a terrible housekeeper. Many people outsource this normally.

I’m not sure if I can do it long term but I would be happy with someone coming even once a month for the next 3-4 months.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week?
Had a complete meltdown at brunch with my mom yesterday because nothing had been planned for my shower. Pregnancy hormones are out of control! At least it lit a fire under her, and she’s picking a location this week. My best friend took control of decorations and desserts, and a few things have been bought, so I’m feeling a little less stressed.

I hired a biweekly housekeeper when I went back to work after maternity leave with #1. That was almost 3 years ago, with just one short break last year because we had to fire one and it took a little while to hire another. No plans to give it up.
For me it is way more necessary when H & I are both working full time (we are both attorneys) because weekday evenings are full with parenting tasks and the occasional workout if I can get it. If I'm cleaning my house, it's basically all happening on Sat & Sun, and consumes my weekend. I'm not happy working (in one way or another) 7 days/week, plus it's not really attainable with kids. I was always in maintenance mode, and could never do any projects/feel like I was "accomplishing" anything at home. If we went anywhere or did anything on the weekend, now suddenly there was literally no time to clean.
Before #1 was born, and before I went back to work, I was able to get by doing a little here, a little there throughout the week. But you do you. Clearly I support outsourcing cleaning as a general concept.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? Had my second trimester screen on Thursday and all looks good so far. I do have a partial previa (had a complete previa with my DS) and she was measuring 30th percentile. I'm a little worried that I'll have the same placental issues I did in my last pregnancy (basically placental insufficiency which resulted in DS being IUGR). I have my anatomy scan in a few weeks, so we'll see if something else comes up then.
3. Questions for the group? Not right now
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? I love being pregnant. I've had relatively easy pregnancies, minus the little bit of extra nausea I'm having with this one (and the high risk issues that I had last time and possibly this time around). I just feel more confident in my body. I hate giving up sushi and alcohol, though. Definitely my least favorite part. I'm seriously craving a spicy tuna roll right now.
melmaria, we went off of a list of pediatricians my OB gave us that were contracted with the hospital I delivered at. I looked them up, and one criteria we wanted was for them to be able to circumcise DS in the hospital before we went home (some pedis here let the OB do it). It ended up being a moot point since DS couldn't be circumcised until 5 weeks since he was so small, but we love the pedi we chose. There were some nurses in the NICU that were singing her praises as well, and even took their children to her, so it made me feel even better about our decision.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? Not much. I did yell at DH yesterday after I drove home in a snowstorm and then had to shovel the laneway since he has a sore back. I got all light headed and then yelled. Two hours later he was home with a brand new snowblower (which we’ve been talking about getting for, say, 7 years). We’ll call that a pregnancy success. The snow keeps coming here and I’ve been ready to kill him for about three weeks. He is doing physio finally so hopefully he can carry stuff when we move in June!
3. Questions for the group?
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? Like the movement. That’s about it. Feels like I’m forever away from that point. I dislike the poor sleep and anxiety in the first tri. DD has slapped cheek (parvovirus) last week and my doctor’s office doesn’t seem to know what to do about it. I called them to have my titers checked since I had a lot of exposure. They still haven’t set up an appointment. So yay! More anxiety!
melmaria I worked for our healthcare system so I emailed the clinic manager for a rec. I hate the guy she suggested, lol. But it's a large practice so I generally see somebody else so its not really a big deal.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? We told S about the new baby and she's really excited about it. She keeps asking when it will get here, lol.
3. Questions for the group? Not today
4. Favorite and least favorite part of being pregnant? Favorite: I love everything about the second trimester: feeling the baby move, cute bump, no morning sickness, high energy, etc Least favorite: I don't like losing control of my body, but I've enjoyed every pregnancy.
melmaria , I don't think it's necessary to interview a lot of pediatricians. With our first, I asked around and chose a group that was close to home and had good reviews, we met them once and they've been our pedis since.
poppyseed, of course it's not dumb! Do it! We have a house cleaner come every Monday and I love it!
