Some of that money being originally earmarked for military construction. So...I guess nobody thinks maintenance and upgrades on our nations military bases are important huh?
eta: from source linked earlier:
In addition to the funds Congress has appropriated, the White House will seek to redirect $3.6 billion from a military construction fund, $600 million from a Treasury Department drug forfeiture fund and $2.5 billion from a Pentagon drug prevention program, acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told reporters Friday.
Rachel Maddow mentioned last night on her show that Congress had the ability to vote on a resolution to stop this, and it will automatically trigger a vote in the Senate. It will be interesting to see what R senators, who she showed on camera as against declaring an emergency, will do.
I don't have high hopes that they won't fall in line though.
Is there any way the supreme court will rule against 45? If it comes to that, I hope so.

I think with his I didn’t have to do this answer there is a decent chance Roberts votes against for a 5-4 against ruling. This gives Roberts the perfect out to protect broad Presidential emergency powers while saying in this case the President himself said it wasn’t an emergency. Which is what I think Robert’s will do. He is trying to be the centrist and I see him upholding Presidential powers but he just got handed a loophole I think he will use
There's no way they'll even begin construction by the time he's voted out of office. The survey that's needed prior to groundbreaking will be of massive scale, and incredibly costly. They'll have to pull deeds and records for EVERY SINGLE tract of land along the wall route. Let alone working with current property owners that have land bordering the proposed wall.
This is actually what I do, in Texas no less, and on a 7 mile tract it takes nearly 6 months to complete the research and survey.

Exactly. Hell, there's pieces of fence that Dubya ordered that are still in court.

True. However, since nothing Trump tells his base is rooted in fact, this matters to them not at all.
Lawsuits are still dragging on from GWB's administration.

I comfort myself with this. Nothing is going to happen but more legal complications for him. If only we could fast forward to the point of sanity and stop having to deal with this.

The problem is that we'll then be wasting obscene amounts of money in court.

If he is impeached and removed from office at some point soon (please) can things be dropped?

I’m not so hopeful, they started construction on the Foxconn bullshit in WI way faster than I thought possible because they decided they could exempt themselves from everything. No Environmental Impact Statement was done and they declared people’s property blighted when it wasn’t so they could use eminent domain if land owners didn’t agree to sell at their terms. Under normal circumstances I would agree with you, but I think they’re going to create their own rules for this.

It took 3 days to survey our land for us to figure out property lines to put up a fence. We live on 0.36 acres.
I imagine this imbecile's wall will take years to even plan. Except I think #45 will do whatever he wants and break any laws he wants to get this done ASAP.

Will he? Not that he is against subverting the law, but it sounded very much like more lies to appease his base and setting up political cover. Well, it's going to court, so what is a great orange liar to do? :::shrugs:::

Yeah I think this is about saving face from being beat by Pelosi. His base was livid over him caving and I think this is to appease them. I think they know it won’t happen but then he can use this to blame the courts again.

Which, in effect, will serve Putin’s purposes of furthering distrust, etc. As previously discussed here, I don’t think #45 has the capacity to understand this overall motive, but man, does his blame game work perfectly here.

Agree, but I bet the money will be gone to questionable companies before we even get to the end of this year.
I'm convinced that's a large reason why he's doing this. He has some cronies that have a large stake in this construction project.
I remember reading a while ago (so forgive me for not remembering where) that the specific steel slats he wants to use are made by a Russian steel company, owned by several oligarchs. So it would not shock me at all.

Federal judge determines that attorneys and witnesses in Roger Stone case must refrain from making public statements or statements to the press “that pose a substantial likelihood of material prejudice to this case.”
