Does anyone know if I can bring Betty to Mud Bay with me?
I need to get her off of this kibble that she's eating. The Pet board (and other reading) basically says that Vets don't know much about animal nutrition, so I'm hoping to compare his list of needs with what they say and make a decision from there.
And I agree, vets really don't know a whole lot about nutrition. Some of them try to push really expensive "prescription" dog food that's really not necessary. With Coco, we sort of experimented. She'll eat almost any people food, but when it comes to dog food she is a crazy picky eater. We finally found a brand that has glucosamine, which she needs for her little joints, but it's also a brand she will eat, and she is a lot more energetic and her joints bother her less when she eats that kind.
You totally can bring Betty to Mud Bay. They are super friendly and nice in there. I went up there one day to get pumpkin cause Wrigley had an upset stomach. They wanted to see pictures of our dogs and told us, "Make sure you bring them next time!" They are the ones that helped us figure out our older dog Ash was allergic to wheat. They are very helpful.
Just about any pet store will let you bring your dog in. If they don't, I wouldn't be going to that store.
AND! They don't mind if your dog walks by and steals a cookie from the bin. I tried paying for it but they just laughed and said I didn't have to do that.

Just a heads up, if Betty's never been to a store like that, she may get a little nervous. Coco is a lot more used to it now, but she sometimes gets keyed up smelling all the other dogs that have been there. Probably doesn't help that on her first trip to a pet store as a baby, she got smacked across the face by a kitty twice her size :/
PP have it right, we LOVE Mud Bay!! Definitely hit them up for free samples of different kibbles and treats so you can try out what she likes or doesn't like. Some pets are smellier on certain foods, just individual like us AND...if you buy something and Betty ends up hating it or it upsets her digestion, just bring it back with receipt!
Ah good to know they give samples and will take food back.
I've been taking her to Petsmart with me (I don't want her to be the weird only child unsocialized dog!) and she's been doing ok there. I've been trying to take her out and about as much as possible.
