jigsy, my studio does not get dark enough to mask tears, unfortunately. lol i did cry about 10 minutes before because I slept very little yesterday and my emotions are running high. I am sorry about your experience with your ex. I feel like with h, he means attraction as a whole on a romantic level, does not make it hurt less, but i do think it is true for him. And honestly, there have been issues on my end too, even though he is incredibly handsome. but, because I have some issues in that area, perhaps i was willing to kind of power through it or something.
I honestly took his attraction to me for granted, which sounds so incredibly vain. lol well, that is one lesson learned. :/
steph96, unfortunately I'm with HR on this one (I'm literally in the process of training people how to do performance reviews and this exact sort of scenario came up in discussion) - you can't rate someone "meets expectations" and then fire them without any sort of other paper trail or documentation. That error sounds pretty egregious and like it should be an instant fire, but if she was instructed by a leader to do so I can see how that ends up being a grey area.
I'm really sorry, though, because that really, really sucks.
I'd suggest now you document EVERYTHING. Go to HR instead of your boss for future stuff (unless your boss changes their tune and ends up being supportive). Don't let future problems continue to slip through the cracks.

My argument is that we do not let department leaders make financial decisions. All financial decisions have to go thru the CEO/CFO (even if this department lead wanted to order pizza for their meeting, they’d need to get approval). Under no circumstances should she have let this person essentially change our pay practices. And a huge WTF for never even mentioning this change to anyone. Red flags galore and she just did it.
My boss and CEO (CEO used to work with my employee and actually recruited her into this position) are now on my side. Finally.
OMG I'm ragey for you. What's the issue? Is it a state law documenting the bad performance forever? Is it that this person is related to someone high up? Does your boss understand that bad employees are a drain on the company?
The HR person agrees that it is a serious error, but she’s afraid that if it went to court, my employee could spin it in a way where we wouldn’t win.
Oh my God! That is insane! I can't even imagine. I can understand where HR is coming from from a legal standpoint, but still. Can you go over the heads of HR and get the okay from the CEO to terminate her? IDK maybe that won't work where you are. I'm in a No Fault Employment State, so here you can fire whenever and for whatever reason you want.

I’m in an at will state but Our HR tends to be more conservative. CEO is out today, but my boss has already spoken to them. I’m sure we’re going to talk about it when she gets back into office.
What pisses me off the most is that with the way this timeline is looking, it’s going to end up ruining yet another family vacation that I have planned. I’m coming up on my 3rd year here and this will be the 2nd time that it’s happened.

There are other people who can fire this chick if it comes down to it. Hell, you haven't been allowed to properly evaluate or discipline her anyway, so I see no reason why you need to be the one to fire her.

I’m sad. I’ve been looking for quickie vacations for myself for my birthday at the end of the month and nothing is working out. Bah. I hate being screwed over by “friends”. The only good thing is she asked me to dog sit and I told her no. She wasn’t expecting that.
