My question is for DD1 (2.5). We just this past weekend took the side off her crib because she was climbing in and out like a maniac on Friday night. Saturday she fell asleep ok, but Sunday night she was in and out of bed grabbing different books and "reading" to herself. It was actually adorable, but she was up until past 10, which created a monster for me on Monday morning. There were a few times she opened her door and I had to lead her back to the bed, but if she stays contained in her room do I just let her do what she wants? What if she pulls out toys? How do I stop her from staying up until all hours if I can't restrain her to the bed?? I guess the novelty of being able to leave bed will wear off soon enough?
Currently dealing with this. We let DD do as she likes. Sometimes this means we wake up and she has taken all of her clothes out of her dresser or all the books out of her bookcase. Then we make her clean it all up with us.
This may not be great advice since she has basically stopped STTN since getting her big girl bed. It has actually been hell. Last night I fell asleep in her bed while trying to get her to sleep. She just kept playing with her books and ignored me.
I've wondered this lately, too. DD is 4.5 and we still use one on her, and I don't see us stopping anytime soon. She doesn't get out of bed for things (bathroom, drink, etc.) but she will call for us from her room and I would never hear her otherwise. Also, it's nice peace of mind in the summer when we are on the patio and kids are asleep inside.
We took DS's out of his room this fall (he was 9 months) when we stopped sitting on the deck at night. There is literally no where in our house that we can't hear him if he's awake. I plan to put it back in once summer comes and I will be sitting on the deck during nap time and when H and I will be on the deck in the evenings again.
Well, our video monitor broke when S was around 13-14 months maybe? We got a little sound only monitor which I still use at night because I sleep with all of the doors shut and fans going for white noise, so I would not hear him otherwise. I plan on using it until he is able to come into our room to tell us if he needs something?
@brooks77 we got S a strider bike and he is OBSESSED.
DD's forehead has felt hot since Sunday (after bumping her head on a chair on Saturday which made us worry - we checked her eyes and it didn't seem like she had a concussion or anything).
I was driving her home from daycare on Monday and she was chattering away, then suddenly looked really droopy and then barfed all over herself. By the time I got her home and cleaned up she was fine.
Daycare said she was OK all day yesterday, but she seemed extra droopy a little while after I got her home (granted, it was close to her bedtime) and her forehead still felt hot. We've gotten temps from 99-100 at home this whole time. She's also been very snotty but that's nothing new.
MH took the day off today to take her to the pediatrician. She was perfectly happy and energetic this morning, as usual. He's texting me from their office now ... the nurse took her temp three times and got 98.6 each time, but he says her forehead still feels hot. They're in the exam room waiting for the doctor.
Any ideas as to what this might be? Obviously the doc will look at her but has your LO ever dealt with anything similar?
ETA: MH called me right after I posted this ... doc said she hasn't got an ear infection, her forehead didn't feel that hot to her, lungs/heart all sound good, and the head bump wouldn't affect her like that. It's probably just viral and we need to wait it out, and can give Motrin if she's very cranky.
I mean, that's what I figured, but it's just odd that we both agree that her head seems hot but she's getting normal temperatures.
mbcdefg, I am sorry your little one is sick. I am TERRIBLE at figuring out if S is hot or not. He almost always feels warm to me, lol. Also, side note--whenever I go feel his forehead now he goes "HOT!" lol.
mbcdefg I’m sorry that C isn’t feeling well. I hope whatever it is passes soon. That’s strange about he head feeling hot but everything else checking out. I suppose that’s good news?

D called me from the pedi's office and I picked up the phone and said "hello?" and he immediately replied, "It's like when you take your car into a f'in mechanic and they don't hear the weird noise!"

Ugh. That never fails does it?
Your post did make me chuckle bc J hates it when I ask him to feel L’s head and ask if it feels hot. He tells me he’s not a thermometer. I am like how can you not tell?! 🤦🏽♀️

I swear, this was something I did not have the capability to do until I was a mom, lol. People would be like, "do I feel warm?" and I would be like, I DONT KNOW. But now I can tell 100% of the time if S has a fever or not just by touching his forehead.

That show "Yes Dear" from years ago had a scene where the one dad kept opening and closing the fridge repeatedly to check if the crab cakes were still cold enough. That's MH right there. I wish I could find the clip online.
