We’re looking at doing Disneyland this time next year with our newly 4-year old (will be in March 2020). We have no flexibility on when to go, but have tons on how long to stay (from 2 days up to 12 days). We would like to tour around a but aside from Disney (maybe San Diego?), but hoping to make Disneyland the focus. H and I have both been to Disneyland, but not in decades, and have never done California Adventures. How many days/what breakdown would allow us to see lots but not exhaust/overload our daughter? She’s a good little traveller and is usually up for anything, but like any kid hits a wall at a certain point!
3 is good but we did 5 with our young kids (they were 6 and 2) and it was perfect for us. They both had a few favorite rides they wanted to ride over and over so I liked the extra time to allow that. We also took lots of breaks outside the parks.

We (2 adults) planned 3 days when we went but the heat was so oppressive (early Nov) that we took long afternoon breaks at the hotel and missed a ton of things we wanted to do. So we added a 4th day and came back later in the week.
I could have easily done 5 days, with afternoon breaks, esp with Star Wars and all the new Pixar pier stuff. But I am admittedly a Disney nerd
I'd do 3-4 full days. You'll be going at Spring Break time which can be really crowded. We went just a few weeks ago and did 3 full days but still didn't get everything done we wanted to.
I went last month and we did 4 park days- 2 days in each park. We went rope drop-closing each day and were able to do almost everything, but still missed some stuff. It would have been nice to have one more day, but 4 days was still sufficient.
We also did it in three and felt like it was plenty. We spent the first day at DL (when we had the most energy) and then spent two days taking CA at a slower pace.
You could also consider adding Universal or Legoland if you want more theme park days.

We went last summer and did 5 days. We rode and did everything we wanted to do multiple times. I would say at least 3 days, and then decide how much/how many times you want to do things. Any amount of days after 3 would be to hit up things multiple times.
