I'm going to a fundraiser for a local hospital. Large event, theme is Denim and Diamonds.
H seems to think it means you either get to go super casual/western (denim), or you show up in black-tie (diamonds). Google tells me a mix of results, some involving bedazzled denim, others involving a denim jacket with a cocktail dress.
Anyone been to something like this before? Outfit suggestions welcome!
I went to one a couple years ago and it was definitely more casual. Most women wore jeans and sparkly or sequined tops and blingy costume jewelry. Or casual dresses w/ denim jackets.
Quite a few men wore entire denim ensembles. LOL
I think where it's being held might be more of an indicator of how people will dress. The one I attended was at a fire hall rec room, hence the more casual dress. If it was at a hotel ballroom I'd probably go a bit dressier.
Generally it’s more of a costume theme than a regular dress code. At least when I’ve seen it it’s been done the same vein that you’d have a 70’s theme, masquerade or character theme party.
It reminds me strongly of the latest episode of Veep, where Selina is stuck sucking up to a tech genius at like, a three-day rodeo with formal nights, LOL.
These looks are kind of what I was thinking - either a dressy jeans outfit*, or a fun cocktail dress with a denim jacket, and add some sparkle. Agree that this is an annoying and stupid dress code.
*Except I would wear dark, non-faded denim. I think the pairs in these examples look sloppy. That might be my age talking though, lol.

:whispers: dexteroni , dark denim is out and lighter washes of denim are what are cool right now.
WHAT? Like entirely? I look like an old mom wearing dark skinny jeans?
I mean, my teenager would say that but the rest of us grown ups will know you look good. Dark wash just isn't the "in" thing. I wouldn't say dark skinny jeans are out, but it for sure isn't trendy.

The hell it is!
I'm wearing my super dark denim, and refuse, REFUSE, to buy into the foolishness of trying to bring back the 80's and 90's. I lived through that once. No thank you on a repeat of that era's denim style.
If I look like an old suburban mom in my dark denim, well.....I AM AN OLD, SUBURBAN, MOM.

Well that's fine. I'm pretty sure I'd look like a moron if dressed in a way considered trendy by people half my age.

I go to a Boots and Bling event each year. Most people mix things - a sparkly fun top with jeans, cute dress with denim jacket. The majority of men wear a suite coat over jeans. This is in rural Kansas and is a fundraiser for an agricultural organization.
