I have finally completed our cutting cable analysis and I'm fairly certain we've decided to go with Playstation Vue. It has all of our mandatory channels (which eliminated DirecTV Now and Hulu Live out of the gate), plus all of our local channels (which SlingTV did not). Between it and YouTube TV, it had a slightly more attractive list of channels that YouTube TV did not.
Cable-wise, it's going to save us $61 a month. If we cut our phone (H is strangely resistant, even though we almost never make any calls on it), that's $100 a month. BYE BITCH.
We just switched as well. We are with Comcast and were renting their gateway and paying $192 for our package which included tv/internet/phone. We don't even use the phone but it was free with the package. Bought our own modem and router and dropped down to Internet only for $69.99 for the first year. We just started watching YoutubeTV a few weeks ago. We like it so far. What channels does PS Vue have that YoutubeTV doesn't?
I turn 47 next week and I've decided to take up ice skating again. I skated as a young teen, when I was dependent on my parents driving me. I'm looking forward to being able to go when I want. Also, I ordered semi-custom skates on 3/25, and they FINALLY came in this week, and I'm going to try them on tomorrow and I'm so excited!!! ::Jessie Spano gif:: My first new skates in 34 years!
Godspeed.
I skated for the fiest time this winter in 20 years after being a pretty serious skater in high school.
It's HARD. I mean, I could skate, but that was about it. Forget spins, jumps, footwork.. even switching edges was hard.
I love Lo & Sons bags so much. I meant to mention in one of these randoms threads before that they *just* introduced a backpack (the Rowledge) that I want so badly, but will have to wait for a sale someday because I don't want to spend $375 on it. I tried the Edgemont but didn't think it looked professional enough for work so I returned it. I use the Hanover because I really need a backpack for work, but I still don't think that looks as polished as I'm going for either. The Rowledge seems to be everything I'm looking for in a backpack.
That is such an absurdly blatant rip off of the Tumi bag, I donāt even know how to respond to it.
Just buy the Tumi. Excellent warranty. Well made. They have pretty regular 20% off sales, or you can get discounted bags on discontinued colors. I have two.
Yeah, I never gave Tumi any thought because of $$$ and didn't think sales were common. I'll be on the lookout for any sales for them too.

That's awesome! I was actually thinking about doing some ice skating too. But key difference between us - I've rarely skated in my life and when I've done so, I held onto the boards every time.

I've joined a few skating forums, and I read this a lot. My body has forgotten everything, and I just can't get over how I can't do the simplest things anymore...I can't do a dip (isn't that like Basic 1c??), I can't do a lunge (either leg), and I can't lift my leg high enough for a spiral. And then I look back at when I first learned it, and it's hard to believe it won't just come back. Like, how can changing edges be hard??
Which is weird because I kinda feel like it's Atkins under a new name. Just like paleo was Atkins under a new name.
And before anyone jumps on me, I knoooooow they're not all exactly the same but let's face it, they should just all be named "Meat meat and more meat" diets.
I'm still very proud of my husband for doing really well thus far on ketopaleoatkins but I had to tell him to tone it down a little bit.

The best advice I can give you, is to get off the boards. Even if you fall a lot. Cause you won't learn how to balance and move if you're holding on to the barrier. (BTW, this spring was my first time on ice in about 25 years. I was clinging to the barrier myself for about halfway around until the little voice told me to get out there!)

A large part for me was that my center of gravity changed. A lot. I do a fair bit of yoga so I'm still about as flexible as I was when I skated.
So, it's not a muscle memory thing. Muscle memory tries to take over and then throws you down on your ass (literally). You basically have to override your muscle memory and re-learn everything from scratch.

And I got the red one I use as a diaper back for $225.
I'm going to have to compare the inner contents to see what I like best. They even have the sleeve on the back! Yeah, they are realllllly similar. Thanks for mentioning this.

I'm the same height I was when I stopped skating....but I'm about 60 pounds heavier. Ouch!! Reading other adult skaters makes me wish I had appreciated getting through basic and starting freestyle/jumps within a year. Now it's questionable whether I'll be able to get them all (I had one jump and was learning another when I stopped). It would be nice to pass that.

Yeah, I grew (in a freak who grew 3 inches in college), gained weight, and have had a baby. So literally everything my body wanted to do wasn't right anymore.
On the bright side, everything I tried to do in 2 feet was fairly easy. I could spin on 2 feet. I could do bubbles. I could stop. I even could do a 3 turn - on my right foot. Crossovers were easy (except backwards, crossing my left foot over my right - but that was the "hard" one for me growing up) I attempted a bunny hop and didn't fall.
I'm going to start skating more regularly in the fall, assuming we can afford it. It's the one form of exercise I really, truly enjoy.

I hear you. I fell down a YouTube rabbit hole a few months ago after I found out Torvill & Dean came out of retirement in 2006 to do Dancing on Ice in the UK (like Dancing With the Stars, but ice skating!), and it was a huge hit from 2006 to 2014, and then came back again last year and this year...and it reminded me of how into skating I was in the 80s and 90s, all the Tom Collins tours and Stars on Ice shows. And I said, "I really really loved skating, why did I stop??"
If T&D can still perform at 60 and 61, I can get back on the ice.

I started skating as an adult and I've noticed that most of the time people who skated as kids have a real advantage when getting back into it.
Now I just need to dust off my skates and go to the rink cause I haven't had time to go in over a year.

Can anyone recommend a good app for tracking progress with running? Iām going to start again now that my ankle is about 90% back to normal. Need to lose the weight I gained being so sedentary the last few months. I used to use something called Map My Run that would allow you to measure your route distance but it was on a laptop and you had to trace it yourself. Iām assuming thereās better stuff now with gps and what not. Or do I want a Fitbit? Iāve never looked into those. Just know people are counting their steps taken or something. Iām more interested in tracking mileage and speed over time as I improve and can go farther and faster.
sparrowsong, garmin makes running watches. I don't know much about them, but they use gps, and they have some new/upgraded models that have been popping up in my news feed this week.

Definitely a Garmin. And sign up for Strava.com for tracking routes and distances, etc. Garmin will also help with this too.

if you have an iPhone Iād go ahead and just got an Apple Watch - it does a ton of stuff, but the workout/run features track all of that as well.
sparrowsong A third for Garmin! I love my Vivoactive 3 so much, after listening to me rave about it for a year, H got one too.
mrsukyankee - how is Strava different from Garmin Connect?
ETA: You can use MapMyRun with a smartphone - this is what I did before I got my garmin. But the Garmin Connect portal has a lot of training plans. I've done their Half Marathon and their Coached 5K - That's the one that let me shave all that time off of my 5K pace.

With Strava you can connect to others and compete with people which I've always thought was cool. You can find interesting routes. And you can use it in conjunction with Garmin Connect/your smartphone.

Jonathan Van Ness (ā¤ā¤ā¤ā¤ā¤) has been instagramming his return to figure skating and gymnastics journey and it's inspiring as hell. Anyway, you may want to give him a follow.

2curlydogs we switched to Ooma for our landline about five years ago and it has been great. We bought it at Costco for about $200, and pay $4.xx/mo for required fees.
Hillary is in town tonight. I totally want to buy tickets (there are still a few available) but I can't justify clawing the time out of my schedule. I can't leave the house until 6:30 thanks to @ crap and it starts at 7:30 downtown (so an hour drive, parking, etc.) so I'd be late in the first place. And I have so much to do here that I've been putting off. So, self-imposed punishment for procrastinating on the less important stuff that still needs to get done. I am so bummed.
And I love my Tumi backpack. The price was awesome, too. Someone posted it on a Buy Nothing group and I was the one who got it - for nothing. Nobody else appreciated the fact that it was a Tumi and all they saw was "it has a broken zipper" in the description. So worth taking it to have the *one* (outside and not even a main pocket) zipper repaired. I use it for so much but it's absolutely perfect for all the electronics when we travel. (brag)
My VW is being difficult again. It started fine and started again when I needed to load everything. I would not fucking start when I needed to leave. Thankfully I could get a jump and was only 6 minutes late. It wouldn't start again when it was time to leave. I got back to the garage and then tested it a couple of times and it started fine. argh..... fml
We saw Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet band last night. The wind, rain, and 3 hours of lightening delayed the show. Everyone was soaked and miserable, but they came on at 9:45 and just played their asses off. It was beyond amazing. We got home at 1pm and we are so dragging today. Worth it.
JEALOUS!!!! Or maybe I mean jealousE, lol.
I wanted to take my dad when the show comes to my city, but he said no. I am sad that he doesn't want to go.
Iām at a bachelorette party with people I donāt know, bar hopping and living an introvertās nightmare.
OMG! Iām so sorry.
This happened to me once. I showed up to what I thought was the bar/restaurant/party for the event at 4:30pm. Then a party bus showed up. THEN...the organizer got on the bus and told all of us guests we owed her $100 each for the party bus (none of this was mentioned in the invite or pre-party conversations). I only knew the bride and one of the bridesmaids; no one was doing anything to include me and by the 2nd club, Iām sure I wasnāt the most approachable anyway. Around midnight at the 3rd location, I called my H and made him come get me (long before Uber existed). It was awful.

This keeps happening here, where the organizer springs additional money requests on us.
My sister is here with me so we left the bar a while after I posted this last night, and we got some food and then went back to the VRBO home.
The girls on the trip are all really nice, but I just donāt know any of them and we have nothing in common. Iām absolutely not a party person. Trying my best to be a good sport.
