I feel like I've been hit by a truck. H crawled into bed at 2am. And then some jackass was cruising up and down our road (this has happened before) at 3am. And then I had Kafka dreams the rest of the night.
On the (literal) bright side, the sun is out for the first time this week!
We are having a big grand opening for our new office today. The mayor is coming, the GOVERNOR is coming, plus around 150 business leaders, it's a big deal and one of my coworkers is dressed like a scrub. She said no one told her to dress up. Come on now, did you have to be told that?!?!
Our admin gave H another day off after the fire yesterday, so he and his co-teacher are meeting up for lunch/drinks to process. I just hope they don't wallow in their guilt.
I have another track meet this evening, boot camp and a grad party tomorrow, and a race on Sunday. I'm already exhausted just thinking about it.
Our property evaluation for tax purposes went up $219k. I want to puke.
Holy shit. Ours went up $100, after like 50K last year. WTF?!?!
I'm looking at the county assessors website, and our entire block went up at least that much. I think the house 2 down from mine triggered it, as it sold, was remodeled, sold, and sold again within 2 years. The price kept jumping up each time. We're going to have to fight this, because there's no way it would be valued for sale what they have us listed at.

Ours went up about $250k last year and we appealed and got it down to about a $75k increase. I bet we'll be fighting again this year.
Eta: it was the same sort of thing you're thinking. Houses on the street had been improved/resold. We were like "hey, our house is NOT 5000 sq ft like those so maybe dial it way the fuck back."

Holy shit! Mine went up almost $100k last time and 50k this time. I contested it and got it dropped $85k which dropped by property taxes by about $400/year. When I bought my house, my property taxes were about $500/year!
We saw Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet band last night. The wind, rain, and 3 hours of lightening delayed the show. Everyone was soaked and miserable, but they came on at 9:45 and just played their asses off. It was beyond amazing. We got home at 1pm and we are so dragging today. Worth it.
I am watching "Knock Down the House" and I want ALL THE WOMEN to run for ALL THE THINGS.
I watched this and noticed AOC has a Lo & Sons bag.
That is all.
I love Lo & Sons bags so much. I meant to mention in one of these randoms threads before that they *just* introduced a backpack (the Rowledge) that I want so badly, but will have to wait for a sale someday because I don't want to spend $375 on it. I tried the Edgemont but didn't think it looked professional enough for work so I returned it. I use the Hanover because I really need a backpack for work, but I still don't think that looks as polished as I'm going for either. The Rowledge seems to be everything I'm looking for in a backpack.
I stupidly volunteered to handsew an linen Elizabethan shirt for a giant for an event tomorrow. (dude is almost 7 feet tall, so the shirt is gigantic... it would be a nightgown on me)
Pleated cuff ruffles suck. They really, really suck.
Also, I'm not sure I've ever killed a thread spool from handsewing before. That was really anti-climactic at midnight last night.
I have finally completed our cutting cable analysis and I'm fairly certain we've decided to go with Playstation Vue. It has all of our mandatory channels (which eliminated DirecTV Now and Hulu Live out of the gate), plus all of our local channels (which SlingTV did not). Between it and YouTube TV, it had a slightly more attractive list of channels that YouTube TV did not.
Cable-wise, it's going to save us $61 a month. If we cut our phone (H is strangely resistant, even though we almost never make any calls on it), that's $100 a month. BYE BITCH.

Wow. Ours went up 100K and I thought that was bad. It sucks. I thought about appealing but was informed that they generally go up even more after appeal, so I am not doing that for now. I think it is probably right (thanks amazon and gentrification). But I am not going to enjoy my escrow shortage payment this year.

How can it go up even more after an appeal? The city/county has to justify the valuation through comps, right? I went through and showed them how their comps were not accurate and supplied others that were lower in value, more accurate, and explained why they were more accurate.

We just switched as well. We are with Comcast and were renting their gateway and paying $192 for our package which included tv/internet/phone. We don't even use the phone but it was free with the package. Bought our own modem and router and dropped down to Internet only for $69.99 for the first year. We just started watching YoutubeTV a few weeks ago. We like it so far. What channels does PS Vue have that YoutubeTV doesn't?

The county website also says that it can go up, because they'll take a closer look at your property and surrounding areas and might determine that you are still under paying.

Well, that sucks! I was pretty confident about my last appeal because nothing was similar. The other houses were bigger, on bigger lots, with garages/basements, and brick construction. Guess I should pay more attention this year.

That is such an absurdly blatant rip off of the Tumi bag, I don’t even know how to respond to it.
Just buy the Tumi. Excellent warranty. Well made. They have pretty regular 20% off sales, or you can get discounted bags on discontinued colors. I have two.

Same! I love the Rowledge but it’s a steep price. I was hoping they’d have it sale during their most recent one but I guess it’s too new. Maybe eventually it will be included in sale. It would be my third Lo & Sons bag. I have the OG and the Brookline.
I turn 47 next week and I've decided to take up ice skating again. I skated as a young teen, when I was dependent on my parents driving me. I'm looking forward to being able to go when I want. Also, I ordered semi-custom skates on 3/25, and they FINALLY came in this week, and I'm going to try them on tomorrow and I'm so excited!!! ::Jessie Spano gif:: My first new skates in 34 years!
