DS will be one year at the end of this month. He likes his bottle hot. I'm pretty excited to switch to sippies and milk, but I really don't think he is going to take cold milk. How did you transition the temperature when you switched to milk? We've tried cooler bottles and he refuses. Someone assure me that I am not going to be heating up whole milk forever!
Hmmm, I do not have direct experience with this because we basically used cold water right away for formula so he got used to it really quickly.
I wonder if you can try treating milk totally separate than the bottles he currently gets? Like, he still gets a warm bottle of milk once or twice a day, but he also gets cold milk in a sippy cup at meals.
I also think whenever you do the transition, it is going to be tough for like a day or two but then you will be ok. At least, that was our experience. S LOVED bottles, but at his 1 year appointment the pedi said to swap cold turkey right then, so we did. He refused the milk for like 24 hours and then was fine with the sippy.
I'm following this because DD just turned one and we're trying cow's milk with different results every day. I'm hoping between just sticking with it at home and daycare she'll get used to it?
we never put cows milk in a bottle, only BM. sippies had water or milk in them. I never heated the milk for sippies and my kid never took a cold bottle. it was fine. maybe because warm milk in the sippy was never an option?

E also drank very warm formula, and refused cold cow's milk. So we heated it up before we gave it to her, until about a month ago - there were no clean mugs to warm it in, so I gave it to her cold and she drank it. She was 25 months old. She doesn't drink much milk though since we switched her to a cup (around 23 months old I think? She drank it from a bottle for a long time). I'm lucky to get 5 ounces in her.

This. We did this with my older son and the transition went great. We did warm cows milk in a bottle with DS2 in an effort to wean around his first birthday. And guess what? At three he loves warm milk in a bottle still. Ugh.
Bonus question. If you just put cold milk in the sippy and let them figure it out, how much milk did they drink approximately? The intent is telling me 16ish oz is appropriate?

My kid drinks probably 6 oz before breakfast, and is offered another 6-8 split into two cups later in the day. Some days he finishes, others he doesn't. He eats a lot of dairy in addition.
That number was lower during the transition to cups though.

I just put milk in a sippy and treated it like anything else I put in front of them. Eat/drink it. Or don’t. I’m not going to stress or fight over this. It’s there if you want it. (Important note: This worked well for us as my kids were very healthy with no growth/weight concerns and no texture aversions and they were not picky eaters.)
I don’t think mine ever drank anywhere near 16 oz of whole milk in a day as toddlers. Our doctors were not concerned at all. They drank water and ate water dense foods and ate other dairy products for fat, protein, and calcium. They both continued on their growth curve and at 5&8, they’re super healthy, happy, and doing well.
When we first transitioned to WCM we heated the milk in a bottle. Every day I would try to give it to DS cold first and if he'd refuse it I'd heat it. I started heating it less and less until it was cold, then switched to a sippy cup (first straw, then soft spout until he chewed a hole in it, then hard spout). He drinks around 16oz a day.

THIS. Drank it? Great! Didn’t drink it? NBD! OP, I would just put cold milk in a sippy and let him figure it out.
DS barely drank milk from age 1-2, but we still gave it at meals every day. He got calcium from cheese, milk, etc. so I really didn’t care at all. He loves milk now at age 4, though!

I started out with 1-3 oz in a sippy. Once DS was drinking that I increased the amount. He pretty quickly moved to drinking 16oz-20oz/day over 3 meal times. At 3 he still drinks that same amount.
