I don't know if I have abnormally small ear canals or something, but seemingly all ear bud type of headphones kill my ears after wearing them for a little while.
I have a pair of wireless Powerbeats3 that are ok for a while, but then hurt. The standard Apple buds kill the top part of my ear after a little while. I have a pair of Skull Candy soft buds that work for a little bit longer term, but even those hurt after a full movie on an airplane or something. And I lost my iPhone jack adapter thing to use them anyway.
Am I wearing them wrong? Do comfortable earbuds just not exist? HALP.

No. Not for me. I bought a pair of aftershockz and I like them well enough. I like to hear what’s going on around me, especially if I’m walking outside around the lake. I don’t care about the quality of sound, I just need something to keep me motivated when working out.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham
Warning, it is only one ear bud! I opened the package and thought “WYF?!?” I actually like using only one though, I can still hear a bit of what’s going on around me and also lie comfortably on my side. It doesn’t stay in super well if you’re jumping around or something, but it has never hurt me at all.
Stupid question, but did you try switching out the rubber bits on your earbuds? My powerbeats came with a set of different sizes - I switched to the small. Looks like you order them separately.
I had a pair of BT Jaybirds a couple years ago. They don’t make the same ones, but they came with multiple size options, to switch out the piece that goes in your ears.
I had one random pair of purple ones from Target that worked but no other ones have ever been comfortable. I have to get the type that go in your ear because the hard edges always hurt.
They have a big following in the running community because they're lightweight, water resistant, and they conduct sound through the facial bones instead of sitting directly in your ear, which allows you to stay alert to oncoming traffic or other safety concerns while exercising. I love them so much - I use them around the house all the time listening to podcasts but I can also keep an ear out for my kids. I use them at work for calls all the time too.
I thought they'd be weird but they have great sound quality and are really comfortable. You can get good deals around Black Friday, I think.
I had the same issue!! I did so much research and bought sooooo many sets of earbuds (many super expensive and they still sucked). I finally stumbled upon some cheap ones that I cannot say enough good about! They fit super well in my small ear canals and don't hurt at all, no matter how long I wear them. I wear them basically all day at work. You can get them on Amazon.
I gave up on earbuds, they just don't work in my ears, they are constantly falling out. I tried so many different kinds, my junk drawer is like a graveyard for earbuds LOL
I ended up getting a pair of over the headphones that look like they should be plugged in to my Sony Walkman circa 1990, but they are bluetooth and super comfortable. For only $20, I can't complain.
Yurbuds were the rec du jour probably 6-8 or so years ago and they've been my brand of choice since. I picked them up because I was looking for something to stay in my ears when running (and I know this was about 6 years ago because that's about the last time in went running, lolsob). But they also have been the most comfortable to me.

They come with multiple size options for ear covers. I have small ear openings, and these are the only ones that work for me.

I third the rec for yurbuds!!! I have small ears & these fit perfectly. They were designed for women & smaller ears. They don’t fall out!
If you read the reviews for yurbuds, it seems like they have changed and aren't as beloved as before.
I had some sort of cheap earbuds from big lots that were perfect in every way about 5 years ago, and one of my dogs ruined them. We searched everywhere for a replacement, and it was like they never existed...so weird.
