I'm going to work backwards, because apparently there is some doubt about what is happening there. Granted, that comment was made 10 days ago, so hopefully some of y'all have seen the error of your ways.

This is crushing me. I have such anxiety around my girls right now, and I know it’s because I know there are parents whose children have been torn from them. I cannot even process that horror.
I’m throwing money at organizations, but I don’t know what else to do. Do we start showing up in black on the Capitol steps? Just take over streets with signs? I feel like mass protest is the only thing that will make a dent.

There is a mass worldwide vigil scheduled by Lights for Liberty on July 13. I am planning to attend my local one and I hope many people do across the country and beyond.
I'm just going to keep adding more to the original post because I'm fucking pissed off that even after a year of reporting people seem to think this might be in the "birther" status of news. Fuck. You.
It's important to remember too that these concentration camps are privately owned. People are making a lot of money off of this and it's beyond sickening.

My apologies. I was referring to one claim in particular listed in the tweet (i.e., the government is intentionally trying to move these children into camps run by the military so that there could then be no civilian over site,) not that horrible things were happening in general or that many of these specific awful things were, in fact, happening. I had certainly read a lot (and fully believe the information) about a lack of facilities and resources, that the facilities that do exist are horrible places, and that children have been forcibly separated from their relatives in these concentration camps. I should have been much clearer.
U.S. government moves more than 100 children back to a remote Border Patrol station in Texas where children were caring for each other with inadequate food, water and sanitation.

Yes, this is in the OP.
I didn't see the $775 per kid per day referenced in the article. That figure was new information for me today. I should have been clearer that that's specifically why I shared the above tweet.

The fact that ICE and government workers/contractors at the border are trying to spin the look of this by moving kids around surreptitiously, shows that they know they are doing things wrong and that it is not right to treat humans as they are. I feel like we are looking at a humanitarian crisis and can't figure out why those in charge don't want a civil, humanitarian-based solution. It's so frustrating.
Interesting that the article says John Sanders stepping down could potentially be related to the current issues at the border, but that it might also be other reasons.

pixy0stix, Thanks for all those recent links - I'm only through like 3 of them, but when you see it all together like this it's powerful and horrific that we don't have the ability to stop the mistreatment of people at our own borders.

Rep. Burgess on conditions in migrant camps: "You know what? There's not a lock on the door. Any child is free to leave at anytime, but they don't. You know why? Because they are well taken care of."

Maybe this has been discussed before, but WHY OH WHY is there not some kind of outside humanitarian observation going on here?! Where is the UN, Amnesty Int'l, SOMEONE who can validate what's happening and hold us to account? I feel like every time there's some kind of humanitarian crisis in another country, there are tons of observers and NGOs and etc etc etc. Or am I imagining things?
