I don't know why I came to work today. One of my co-workers is acting super pissed off at me, and I have no idea why. Its my 3rd day back, so I haven't even been here to do anything wrong. Anything I can think of were super minor work stuff that she was never upset about in the past. Maybe I pushed her to address an issue with her daughter that blew up.
Or maybe her raise, but she was discussing it with everyone else, and I don't think that they would all discuss raises. Raises are weird this year (and I don't do them technically), but the minimum wage is set to raise quite a bit by 2025, so we have to start moving everyone up. I'm not sure why that would upset someone though. They will move up too in the all boats will rise concept. But we are still 6 years out, so we need to start moving the lower people up more aggressively.
ETA- She was already upset with me, but maybe because I left her with a situation that the director was supposed to handle. He was here, so I thought he was going to handle it but I didn't see him as I drove out of the parking lot.
Dear work, If I make it through the summer, it will be a miracle. Tons of extra projects, major budget cuts, and now one of my team members is dropping to part time. When the interns leave in six weeks, I am going to have to hire or none of us will be able to function. I'm in the stalled out, don't even know where to start mode right now and I need to get past it. Signed, Exhausted
Dear guy I'm seeing, Please be fun for at least the summer. I need some fun to get me through the 1 year anniversary of ExH leaving on top of all the crazy stress at work. So far, you're pretty great. Let's keep that up, shall we? I don't even really care beyond that at this stage. Signed, Fingers crossed
mustardseed2007, I asked her yesterday and she wouldn't tell me. I think she is the type when she gets really angry that she can't really talk about it, so I am trying to wait it out. She will be out for 6 days after today, so maybe with time she will feel better.
My family is also borderline harassing me. I mean I feel that way. My mom yelled at me last year about using her cabin and leaving it dirty. It wasn't, it was my cousin that used it afterwards. Now she is asking me if we are using it this summer because she wants it used, and when I say no I feel like it will be this whole big thing. But no I wasn't planning on it because everyone was super shocked that we didn't show up on the date we were supposed to including the neighbors (we decided to camp elsewhere and let her know), and then the whole texting saga about crumbs and a wet cloth and left over bacon. I was trained since I was a kid to always clean up and throw away any perishable food, so why would I last year be super gross about everything?
My sister and dad tried to crash our camping trip which is stressed me out, but she is having trouble finding lodging. My dad (in town from South America) is texting me 20 times a day. It is just so much- they are stressing me out, and I don't even live local to them.
I think I am also on vacation in my head because I got here early and then have done nothing.
waverly, our minimum wage just went up to 11.25 on Monday. Who I feel bad for are all those guys that were making 11.50 or 12.00 who won't be getting raises but all the cost of living goes up because minimum wage went up. I already noticed it at the grocery store and out to eat places a couple weeks ago.
Dear Public Online school Why are you being so pushy? I called asking for info on your school and what it all involved. You have now called me twice asking if I had any questions and if I was ready to enroll. School doesn't start until Sept 3 and I need the paperwork in by 8/26 to start on time. Can you please give me some time to talk this out and see if it is even doable. Mom who is 75% convinced this may work
186momx, this is where she is at, well slightly higher and a small raise. But we are going up to $15 in 2025, so the people that I have that make $9 or even $11 need to start going up faster. I get it is unfair that the higher people are not going up as fast, but we don't have the funding to give everyone in the org a big raise.
If all the grocery stores and restaurants raise their prices isn't that kind of defeating the purpose of raising the min wage. I mean I get that probably their costs have also gone up.... Also not an economics expert here. If DH didn't make good money I don't know how we would be able to do anything. Everything is so expensive and we are not even in NYC or San Fran.

This is exactly what happens. Everyone's wages go up. So now the store that used to have 10 employees making $10 an hour has to pay them $11 an hour. That's a 10% increase in costs that directly effects the bottom line.. so now they rise prices or lay people off so they can keep making a similar profit. And those people who were making $10.50 an hour? They want $11.50. Or more than that even. It's basically a viscous cycle.

Prices do rise when wages increase but not as fast. Our parents association partners with some enrichment groups and they've been charging more as their costs rise but the next increase to use is fairly small -- 2% or so while wages are increase 20% or more.
I get it. Law is old school. But it's 2019. WHY WHY WHY are we starting out letter agreements with the phrase "gentlemen?!?!"
Signed, NOT A GENTLEMAN
PS: The attorney who drafted it? A woman. PPS: I'm not even sure how this gets addressed with all the gender identification issues that are so prevalent now a days.
Random aside: As part of DH's new job, he had to fill out an employee profile. Top two items? Name and preferred pronouns.

I've seen ladies and gentlemen but that's not totally inclusive either and it has a weird announcing quality to it that reminds me of my dad shouting "Calling on all ladies and germs!"

Dear HR People Everywhere,
Please give DH an interview. He'd make an excellent employee.
Signed, Trying to stay upbeat
Dear Boss,
You are so weird. We have a phenomenal team, and you acknowledge that; but you never say it to the other team members. Instead, they always feel like they are doing something wrong, when they are not! You are a great guy - try to show it more often?

Dear trainer, Why have you been pushing for me to get set up to work from home and then tell me I couldn't today at 7:55am? We even texted last night when I had my laptop and monitors hooked up. I even made a trip to the office early this morning to pick up a keyboard. I would have just stayed instead of driving home just to drive back again. Signed, Begrudgingly in the office
Dear AF, Why did you have to show up today? Signed, Going on a 3rd date tonight

mustardseed2007, thanks! I'm decent friends with one of the moms, and she organized the thing. It was fun. I do find it a bit hard to relate to the rest of the moms though - they mostly are SAHMs or work part-time.
