My mom has been having stomach pain and they need to remove her gallbladder today. I know it’s a super common surgery, but I still worry about her undergoing major surgery. I live OOT so I am not there but my dad is keeping me updated (didn’t know she needed the surgery until she went to the ER today).

I’m sorry. My sister had this surgery a few months ago and I was definitely worried until it was over. It’s always worse when you live far away. Hope everything goes smoothly for her.
My 99 year old grandmother had emergency gallbladder removal in the spring and came through with flying colors. She was feeling like herself again within two weeks and I’m sure would be sooner for someone younger.
My dad had his removed several years ago, he looked like he was on the verge of death (I think just because he was in so much pain) as they were prepping him to go in and it was pretty alarming. When I saw him again a couple hours later after the surgery he was almost completely back to his normal self. I’m sure your mom will do great!
Is she having it laparoscopicly? If yes, mine was super easy. I went home, slept the rest of the day and was back to normal within 2 days. I know some people can’t eat certain things after (citrus/greasy), but I haven’t found that to be the case and I hope your mom recovers that way too.
I bet she's already out and on her way to recovery now, but, I wanted to echo other posters. My dad had his out last year, I took him/stayed/took him home, so I was there for it all. It was such a quick procedure, and my dad (an 82yo, FWIW) felt fantastic afterwards, almost immediately. It was a super easy procedure for him. His only disappointment was that he couldn't keep the damned thing in a jar ("It's MINE!").
Thank you for all the good thoughts and personal stories. Unfortunately they are STILL waiting for her to have the surgery. They say it will be tonight though. Ugh the waiting sucks.
As an update, she’s in recovery and surgery went well. They say she will be there at least tomorrow bc it was swollen and gangrous (sp?) so they may want to keep her an extra day on ABX.
Last update: I just talked to my mom and she is doing well. Her pain is gone! She may go home this afternoon if she feels up to it--the doctor is leaving that decision up to her. They did it laproscopically so she just has three little incisions. Her biggest gripe is that she is hungry but on a liquid diet and she hates jello lol.
Thanks again for all the well wishes. It was definitely reassuring to be able to talk to her and she sounds like herself
