I thought you might never get here, you gorgeous day, you!
I have a migraine and I’m out of migraine meds. I went last week to my doc, who called in a prescription. To the WRONG pharmacy. I went to the pharmacy this morning to get it, and they didn’t open for more than an hour. I was going to tough it out and go to work, but I realized I’m seeing 1.5 of everything, so driving 20 miles to work wasn’t going to work. I took a muscle relaxer in the middle of the night, which may be why. Or maybe it’s the headache.
So now I’m doing a couple of calls from home and taking a sick day. I was planning on taking a half day anyway to finish prepping for DD’s party Sunday. Her birthday was yesterday, and I can’t believe I have a 7 year old!

I'm working a half day today. I sign closing papers on my house this afternoon in anticipation of it closing Monday. I'm ready for it to close and be over with.
Then I meet up with the guy I'm seeing for his birthday. We're doing dinner and a sunset catamaran cruise. I'm having a very hard time figuring out what to wear! His only requests for his birthday were to spend time with me (aww) and for me to bring a toothbrush to his place.
For a short week, this week has dragged on for all eternity.
Heading to a show in the city tonight with a friend, crashing at her apartment after. I might have a date tomorrow at some point but we haven't really worked out a plan. It's supposed to be super hot out, so the day trip we had talked about may not be a great idea after all.
This has been a looooong week. I don't really want to do much. DS is having some friends over tonight and DH is working. I have ran kids places all week, getting to bed about an hour late then getting up at 5 to take DD to practice. I am just glad DS is off today so I had him mow the grass.
Tryouts are next week for volleyball. I am about sick. The coach said today there would be some cuts. I asked DD how she faired in the lineup from best to worst, and she hasn't a clue. She will be devastated if she doesn't make it. It's going to be a long week until Wednesday.

I'm WFH today. DD is at our old in-home DCP for the day (DCP had a few kids gone, so she had a space for DD) to play with DC friends. DS is home with me.
DS has his second Little League All-Stars game tonight. If they lose, they're done. They lost their first game last night. I was a little surprised that the coaches didn't switch pitchers more often, since the 3 who pitched were throwing more balls than usual, and we have a number of kids on the team who can pitch (including DS). DS didn't play much (he's a "coupled" player, which means he is only guaranteed 2 innings in the field and 1 at-bat), but he did a great job when he did play, and he got put in towards the end of the game as a pinch-runner because he's quick and good at stealing bases.
We don't have any other plans this weekend; we kept it open in case DS has baseball games Saturday and Sunday. Even if he does have games, I should have some time to catch up on chores and general picking up around the house.

I'm very discombobulated today. I had drop off both kids, run to sam's to get supplies for the neighborhood grill out, run the supplies to the pool, and then as I'm sitting here I realized I should have bought a box of burgers and I didn't. So F me.
We don’t have any plans this weekend. We were supposed to be coming back from our beach vacation, but we had to leave early due to DD1’s behavior. So she and I left Wed night and DH and DD2 came back last night. I’ve been doing laundry for 2 days - 2 weeks of camp laundry from DD1 and all of the vacation laundry - clothes, linens, beach and shower towels.
DH is not talking to me because of some perceived slight, and I’m not talking to him because he’s being an ass about it. So we won’t hang out much.
Everyone is mad at DD1, so we all won’t hang out much.
DD2 is just trying to stay above the fray, poor kid.
On the plus side, the weather is supposed to be great, and our pool is currently 90 degrees. So, probably swimming in silence? 😂
It has been a long week made longer because I worked last Sat. I have this weekend off though. I thought about doing play dates, but I have been kind of exhausted all week, so I didn't feel like having plans. We are busy next week, and have our camping trip the next 2 weekends plus family the 3rd weekend, so I kind of want one where we don't do anything.
We have had no kid activities at night, so that has been awesome. The kids are getting more independent which allows me to be more on top of the house. Their rooms are more picked up, and their beds made more often. I cleaned the stove this morning. DH is more on top of the kids about playing and not watching TV than I am, so that has been nice as well. We did 3 yards of mulch on Sun, and I have been sore all week. Went to the chiro yesterday and just finally getting back to normalish yesterday and today.
This weekend is date night Saturday night, and the kids semi private swim lessons on Sunday. I am wondering if I should sign them up for more, but maybe starting the middle or end of August.... I also need to sign up DD for dance class because I don't really want to do dance on Saturdays all year again, and they have a 5:30 jazz class on Monday nights. I wonder if I could try to just e-mail her....
Yesterday was a travel day from San Juan Island to Portland. After 7 days of being with my kids 24/7, today we're kid-free and about to go tubing down the Clackamas River with friends. We sent the two older kids to camp with our friends' kids and got a babysitter for DS2.
I'm dog sitting this weekend for a friend and got the dog a day earlier because her trip got shifted. I Can't get the damn dog to go in her crate so all the errands plus DD fun activity got put on hold as I'm clawed, DD is clawed and no way I was leaving the 2 year old dog free roam of the house. Waiting for DH to get home so I can grocery shop and go to the pharmacy.
Hiking with one of DD friends Sunday. Saturday is free but now will be errand filled.
Last day of work for real this time, summer break is HERE. We leave for a weeklong camping trip in DC tomorrow. It’s got a lot to do at the campground but of course we can sightsee too. I’m looking forward to the zoo and botanical gardens of some kind, the air and space museum.
Now I am heading to the lake to float with only adults. Somehow my kids see this as I should find them something to do. No. They have been at pool parties, the fair, ect.. all week with me as chauffeur. I am doing something myself. Ds's friends all went to the fair last night, so he canceled the get together and went too. Now he wants to do it tonight, but I will not be home. Ummmm....no.
campermom, have you guys been to DC before? The zoo was a big disappointment to me, other than the giant pandas (which are CROWDED). But do go to the gardens by the Smithsonian Castle. They are this tiny bit of serenity in the middle of the bustling city, right by the Mall. And if you like to run, the path around the Mall is my favorite place to run in the world. It’s not concrete, so it’s easy on your knees, but it’s perfectly flat and well-maintained, so you aren’t dodging potholes. Pretty much every Smithsonian museum is worth a visit. I love looking at the Degas statues of ballerinas and the Renaissance art. Old Town Alexandria is also fun. It’s on the Yellow Line of the Metro, King Street Metro stop, and I love coming out of the Metro tunnel to cross the Potomac. You get an amazing view of the monuments from that angle. Just face backwards on the train. You’ll also pass the metro stop for the Pentagon on that line. Pentagon City Mall is a nice Mall, but not much better than the Mall at Union Station. Union Station is my absolute favorite building in the entire city. The Main Hall is awe-inspiring.
We used to live in DC, and I miss it every single day.
mommyatty I just took a screenshot of that. I'm like 90% sure that DC is going to be our family trip for spring break this coming school year. Can't wait to show it to my kids!
My dad is a boundary pushing narcissist. He actually suggested I spend $1800 to do him a favor that should only cost $30. I wish he wasn’t visiting. He is nothing but drama, and he doesn’t actually care about us. Everything is about him. When he visits he spends the entire time on his phone with his girlfriend. He does absolutely nothing to help out and ignores the kids. Then when he leaves he cries because he doesn’t see us very often.
I like what Tiffany said in Drop the Ball. He (sort of) raised me- it was mostly my mom, so he doesn’t owe me anything, but then again I don’t owe him anything either since we don’t have a relationship. But if you are staying at my house you can at least get off the couch for 1 second and do dishes or something. I can’t trust him with childcare so the kids still go to camp. It’s like I don’t see the point in visiting if everything has to be his way as cheap as possible and expect everyone to cater to him and he ignores the kids.
Feeling all the feels. My kids are having their first sleepover, but it's while they're at Dad's house. Their BFF is sleeping over there. I'm bummed that I'm missing that milestone. Feels like something a mom should be there for.
waverly sounds like next time he should stay in a hotel and you can visit when convenient to your family. I know that's easier said than done though. Family politics are so tough. Sorry the visit isn't going well.
twinmomma , DC is great for family vacations. The hotel rooms can be pricey, but once you get there, virtually everything you want to do is free. The monuments, the National Mall, the Smithsonian museums, the zoo. There are some non-Smithsonian museums that cost (Holocaust and International Spy). You can always stay outside DC in Alexandria or Silver Spring, MD, where food and hotels are less expensive. Just be close to the Metro. And buy a multi day Metro pass.

Oh he isn’t even here yet. The constant messaging to get what he wants started 4 months ago. I will see him on the vacation in 2 weeks and then he comes back after. I know how he will act when he is here because that is how he always acts. My sister won’t let him stay with her because of it. So her compromise was a vacation rental? I don’t understand that, and I think maybe he strong armed her into it and she thought let’s do it by my sister’s vacation so she can help with him. Lol NOPE.

Sorry . ETA- Oops I meant to quote the sleepover one.

We actually live less than an hour away but rarely go! Since having kids we have only been to the museum of Natural History and American History. We haven’t done the mall and monuments since my oldest was a baby 10 years ago.
The campground is in college Park so we got the 3 days metro pass and it’s been very easy to access. Sunday we went to the US Botanic Gardens and my kids really loved it. They did the passport thing and enjoyed finding their plants. We had packed a lunch and ate outside. Then pics in from of the capital building and Washington monument (from afar) and ice cream from a food truck. Then we hit the Air and Space museum and saw an IMAX. It was HOT!
Yesterday we went to the Smithsonian zoo but we should have gotten up early and gone earlier. We didn’t realize it opened at 8 and could have avoided a lot of heat meltdowns from my 8 year old. The elephants were our favorite. I wish we saw the panda on the way in and not the way out...my kids were too done to appreciate it.
Today we will play mini golf, hang at the pools and splash pad. mommyatty I did my long run Sunday am, there is actually a path from the campground leading out both sides that goes pretty far. I can get my runs done super early and over with that way. (I’m procrastinating right now while everyone’s asleep).
We check out Saturday and have one day left on our metro pass. We want to do Natural History but also the monuments around the mall but keep the kids fresh, so we will have to go super early that day!
If after that we want to head back in for another outing one day, what’s the one more thing you think we should do? Kids are 3, 8, 10.
