DH found out on Friday that he will be on a business trip/conference in Vegas over our 10th anniversary. Technically our anniversary falls on a week day, but I'm having a hard time not being upset by this. We are big on celebrating our significant milestones, and while I know we will still celebrate (we've already made tentative plans to do a staycation at a local fancy hotel for a few nights), it bugs me that we won't be together for that day. It's also not practical for me to go to Vegas with him since there will still be responsibilities at home during that time. Sigh.
We're also trying to gather stuff for a garage sale this upcoming weekend, and we're getting our roof redone this week too.
I forgot that we're having lunch catered today because of a milestone event at work. We're getting BBQ and from the sounds of it, our EA went all out with the ordering. I am super excited about this.

I'm trying to make reservations for dinner out with H. The day we want to go their online thing is saying they have no spaces available. But the day before and after are completely open.
I'm guessing that means they're booked for a private party.
ICE took someone off the street a few hours ago, in my area.
He was in his car, about to go to work. Two black unmarked vehicles surrounded his car. When he refused to open his car doors, they busted open the window, unlocked the doors, and dragged him out. Glass all over the car seat in the back seat.
They threatened a neighbor who was yelling for their warrant. They put their hands on their firearms and told her she dare not approach them.
I can't stop thinking about it. We're a sanctuary city and have absolutely no jurisdiction over this happening. So sad. So angry.
It's supposed to be 98-100 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday. I have events both days. I asked the coordinators if they wanted to postpone until next week since it's going to be hot and people "might not want to come out." I try not to tell people what to do since they know their guests but people never listen. Anytime there's extreme weather, people don't go out here. Now I get to figure out how to do my best to not have everything melt.
I thought for sure I made it through round one of the interview process today, but hadn't heard anything until an hour after the next round was starting. I had 17 minutes to get across town. I gave my 10 minute presentation (did not practice enough, ugh), and now waiting to see if I make the final 2.

gault that is absolutely awful. I’ve witnessed raids and it’s horrigying but I’ve never seen them break into someone’s car before, and I kind of thought that wasn’t allowed. And threatening bystanders? I’m not surprised but that is pretty chilling.

It's not allowed. Immigration law isn't my area of expertise, but I am like 99% sure there's 2 different types of warrants - 1 is signed by a judge, and 1 isn't. IIRC, most are the second type, but the first type is the only one that allows immigration officers to enter into a person's private property (house, car, etc) without permission/consent.

This is also my understanding but I’m not a lawyer of any sort so I always worry I’m just misremembering.
The tattoo shop where MH gets his work done is having a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood this weekend. I've been thinking of getting one for a while but haven't been able to figure out what I want or where I would put it.
I'm pretty sure this is just a set list of designs so it feels like a poor choice for a first tattoo. Still kind of tempted though. If nothing else I will go buy some raffle tickets and donate money directly.

How is this legal?! Seriously, the cops are not allowed to do this. A repo guy would not be allowed to do this.
Someone needs to tell my new coworker that we’re not the type of office where it’s okay to leave the toilet seat up. He seems like the kind of guy who does it on principal because it’s just as easy for women to put it down as it is for men to put it up. *eyeroll* on a related note, I’m “working from home” tomorrow before going directly to a client’s site to avoid carpooling with this guy an hour each way.

I've taken a couple of CLEs. And actually paid attention. 😉

It's sort of semi kind of crazily spontaneous but I think I may be moving soon. My son is starting a 5-year PhD program 9/1 and the school is located in my city. I think I'm going to rent the house to him and two friends at far below market rate but enough to mostly cover the taxes and the lion's share of the rent in my new city (greater DC area) so financially it's almost a wash. But I haven't been a tenant since the early 90's and I'm simultaneously excited and terrified. I go to DC next week to find a place.

I am not a lawyer in any way, but would an organization like the ACLU be able to help determine the legality of this? Or so you have a local immigration organization?

I actually learned about this through an immigration support group on Facebook, so people are aware. There have been dozens of people contacting the mayor's office and the county sheriff.

Remember how my car was stolen a few weeks ago?
DH's car was stolen this morning. I hope we get it back as quickly as we did mine. FUCK.
UPDATE: It wasn't stolen. It was towed, probably because he didn't renew his registration. The same fucking thing happened 2 years ago. IT'S ON A STICKER ON THE LICENSE PLATE. HOW CAN YOU NOT NOTICE IT? Plus, he should have gotten emails about it. He's lucky he's cute and can lift heavy things.
I'm venting here because he's already pissed at himself and I don't want to pile on. At least not yet. I'm sure that's why he called his mom to take him to work or help him get his car instead of asking me.

We have a funeral today for H's grandfather (his mother's father). It should be ... interesting. His mother hasn't spoken to her father for the past four years. We don't speak to H's mother. I almost want to bring some popcorn.

Also, H took our pit bull to the emergency vet last night. We heard him scream/yelp, and he wouldn't put any weight on his front right leg. The e-vet thinks it's arthritis, and he needs to lose some weight. We noticed he was becoming a bit more sausage-shaped, but we didn't realize just how much he had gained. He's nearly 87 pounds, when he should be 65!

He's a cutie! I hope the vet and some weight loss can help.
My pup has been living with arthritis for 3+ years now and is on a huge fish oil and dasuquin (I think that's just glucosamine for dogs) regimen and is still very active.

Gold star for following the rules and including a pic of a pup when talking about said pup.
TRIGGER (Death): My baby-sister-by-another-mister's obituary came out today. (She was my younger sister's BFF all through childhood. Her mom was our alternate mother, and she and my sister were "twins" their entire childhood, born a week apart and even looked very much alike when they were younger. They could have been, except for the whole her mother birthed her and my mom birthed my sister thing.) It was a beautiful write-up. Funny coincidence is her sister lives just down the road from me now, two states away and forty years later. By a total coincidence.

We have a dumpster in our driveway. I'm irritated we have to park on the street, but oh well. New roof day! I'm happy for the workers that it's temperate outside and not blistering hot. I'm tired and want to go back to bed. I have little to no desire to go to work today.
I'm not getting shit done at work...I have a really easy job right now. There's like three things on my To Do list, and I don't have the focus to get any of it done.
I mean, all three things are "deep thought" things. Things that need more than five minutes of attention at a time. And I have the brain space of a gold fish right now.
I just booked cleaners for the day my book club is meeting at my house. I feel like such a grown up.
I want to hire for a deep clean on a day DH isn't home and have him come home to a spotless house. And then maybe he'll agree to have them come monthly or something. LOL
