I have been out of work for five months due to a layoff at my previous job.
for job A - I have been through four rounds of interviews, they are checking references and my inside source says I am likely to get an offer soon. It's a good job and I will be really good at it. Great work, seems like a great team, good cause.
for job B - I had a great interview with the hiring manager and have an interview with the CEO/Founder on Friday (this is a smaller org that is staffing up - there are not a lot of layers here). Hiring manager emailed a few days after our initial talk a week ago to get on the CEO's sked saying she got a lot of applications for the role and is still reviewing them but wanted to get top candidates to speak with CEO. I have no idea what this job will pay but I strongly believe in the mission, it's a good job and I will be really good at it. I am a strong candidate here.
I will negotiate with Job A whenever this offer comes in and sorta pretend that Job B doesn't exist. However, I will not be able to stall forever. What would you tell job B? My current plan is to tell the hiring manager (not the CEO) as soon as I have an offer that I am considering an offer. If the CEO brings it up on Friday, I can address it but I don't know if I need to bring it up with him. How would you handle this?
I am slowly losing my mind with all this resume, cover letter, interview nonsense. I have been on many interviews and either ghosted or did not get the role (some are still unfilled, some I was not the right candidate). My unemployment runs out in Sept. - we can survive on one salary and have an emergency fund we have not touched yet but would prefer not to dip into that just yet. I will take Job A but really hope I get an offer from Job B too.
I think that sounds like the right approach. Your obviously a good candidate, an employer won't be surprised that you're interviewing elsewhere and that you have another offer.
First time, I told the second job that I had an offer on the table but was very interested in their company. I had already been through 90% of the interviews (it was a big company) and just needed to meet the head. They asked me if I could push off the first job for a day or two and come in for that last interview. I did and had an offer from them on the table later that day. I was able to look at both jobs and what the each offered and make the best choice for me.
Second time, I did similar to what I describe above, but the second job said there was no way they would have an answer for at least a few weeks. At that point, I took the offer that I had on the table and took myself out of the running for the other.
I'd tell Job B that you have an offer on the table, but that you really like their mission, and you were wondering what their timeline is.
I would wait until a firm offer is in hand to say anything to job B. Wow the CEO in your interview on Friday and make them want to make you an amazing offer. If you get an offer from Job A between now and Friday, inform job B AFTER your interview Friday or first thing on Monday morning as part of your follow up thank you note. Kind of an “oh by the way” item.
Pleasure meeting with you, I’m really interested, although I have a firm offer with another org that I’m interested in pursuing so would love to talk next steps as soon as possible type thing to see if we can make this work.
I’m coming in here late, but I agree with the others. I hope the interview went well yesterday - any progress on B or A?
I just started a new job after a layoff and 7 months of unemployment, so I feel your pain. I don’t know if I’m more excited to be working again or just to *not* be interviewing anymore! It is exhausting to constantly juggle all the meetings & interviews, research, etc, etc.

it has been a stressful week. Thursday Job A came in with the offer. Friday Job B interview went great, I asked them about time lune, He said we are looking to hire like yesterday for this. I said great I have another offer in hand and would hope to hear a decision from you soon. He got back to me later saying it was going to be at least another two weeks until another round. I said thank you and keep me posted. Today, I accepted Job A. If Job B comes around, i will deal with that problem if it comes to it. Job A is a good gig, offer in hand and a sure thing. I don't have another month of patience for Job B to figure their shit out...ESPECIALLY after i 100% nailed Friday's interview. I am some concerns about Job B after talking to head too. we'll see.
