Yeah it was something....
Also, on a somewhat related note, any musical fans here. The Percy Jackson Musical just ended its 2019 tour and they are running a campaign to bring the musical to Broadway. So if you are on twitter and want to tweet with the hashtag #BringTheBoltToBroadway that be awesome
I saw this yesterday and im still so confused how they convinced all those talented people to be in a movie version of what was the biggest tourist trap in ny and the worst thing to ever be brought to the stage.....
Getting high and watching Cats is TOTALLY going to become a thing.

Me watching: βoh gosh this is awful...wait, is that Dame Judy Dench?? Am I drunk?β

Yeah, it looks super weird. The cast is great, though, so I don't know what to think.
If it flops I assume I'll be able to stream it for free at some point, and I'll definitely do that!
I do think it's hilarious that Taylor Swift's first big movie role is playing a cat. She's known for being a huge cat lover so that seems so ridiculously on brand.
A few months ago, the lowest rated show on The CW, with barely a budget in their last season, did a CATS parody that was less unsettling than the actual movie: www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3b-8_3rAEo

The best! Man I miss that show
Twitter rumor is the full S4 album will be out today!
If it embraces its weirdness, then Iβm on board. All of their other live action broadway shows have been pretty awful, so whatβs one more?
Also, Cats is the first Broadway show I ever saw, and a cat sat in my lap. It changed my life forever (no exaggeration). I never saw it again and I never will, because itβs terrible, but it still holds this special place in my heart.
The cast is incredible, minus T Swifty. Les Twins. Idris Elba. Ian McKellen. Jennifer Hudson. Francesca Hayward. James Corden. Judy Dench. How can you say no?
Getting high (or drunk) and watching Cats has ALWAYS been a thing. It's Cats. It's not meant to be watched sober.
ETA: I forgot. There's also Steven McRae from the Royal Ballet and the choreography is being done by Andy Blankenbuehler.
I must be a weirdo, because I LOVE the music from Cats and could listen to it on repeat. I saw the show on Broadway a couple times and loved it, but again, the music. It is just so, so good.

I waffled between being weirded out and really impressed by the visuals in the trailer, but man, what a cast. And Jennifer Hudson belting "Memory" in the trailer is pretty awesome.
Is the trailer insane because Cats is insane, or is the trailer insane because it suggests it has not done justice to Cats?
I've never seen Cats and don't really follow musical theater, but I want to catch up on this. All I know is that it's a popular Andrew Lloyd Wright musical based on something TS Elliot did, and Sarah Brightman sings Memories. Was it always just some batshit hot mess, or was it some legit piece of musical theater. Because the former sounds way more entertaining to me than the latter!

@karinnothing - we took my oldest nephew and nieces to see the Lightning Thief last weekend. H and I kept looking at each other - WTF? However, there were some great things done with the stage and the was some serious talent with the those playing different characters. The kids thought it was fantastic. It should go to Broadway, it could be really something with a bit more tweaking and a little more budget for stage.

Cats has always been weird and rather disjointed but it was groundbreaking when it premiered (in the early 80's). Mostly it was about the dance choreography (the cats came out into the audience! lol) and the cutting edge makeup (heh) because there wasn't much of a plot since it was based on a book of poems, not a story. And Sarah Brightman was in Phantom, it was Elaine Page (West End) and the Betty Buckley (Broadway) who sang Memory.
My H was definitely more distraught after I made him come see Cats with me, than when I made him go see Pippin. LMAO!
ESF , I feel like Cats is a weird musical in general, because the music is pretty good, but there isn't much of a story, it's literally just a bunch of cats hanging out in an alley and singing about their lives, with no other dialog. (At least that's how I remember it; it's been a few years.)
The movie trailer makes it seem like maybe there is more of a story, with some dialog, and with other locations, not just the alley.

The music is pretty great but Cats is fucking weird. Always has been.

My understanding is cats has always been totally batshit but the music was good and the experience of seeing it was fun so people loved it. Ive always heard itβs basically plotless too.
