Not an official announcement by any means, so it may or may not be across the board at all of the parks. But....
Looks like WDW has discontinued the 1hr time frame in which you had to return to the ride for rider swap. It looks to be that it is opened ended for the given day not a 1 hr block of time.
Feedback must have been terrible. I wasn’t mad about it for most rides, but for something like FoP or Splash Mountain at midday that 1 hour was not going to cut it.

Awesome, thank you.
When I tried to use it at FOP I could never get the app to show me what my return time was. When our other members finished we just went up and they let us in. I had no idea if we were in the window or not.

I guess I don’t understand? I thought you had to do rider swap right then? I had no idea. We always do it immediately. One parent and kid go on, the other parent jumps on the one immediately following .

We always did it back to back for efficency and not having to double back.

With the old system, they would give you a ticket. You could come back any time before it expired. Some of the more popular rides expired day of, others would be good until the end of the month. We sometime used it for a different day entirely.
When they went digital they implemented a return time.

But if you are already there why wait? Can you get it before you wait in line?

Wr usually sent the parent with the kid/kids not riding off to play somewhere or ride a different ride. So we wouldn’t be there anymore and it was nice to go back later. Also some rides take a really long time to ride even with FP ( Soarin and FOP) so it was nice to not have to have the kids waiting wait right there for what would be over an hour.

Haha those are the exact two we did swap with last week! I had no idea. The waiting wasn’t bad. We all we t through the pre show together and then just swapped for the ride.

Because not all rides have an entertaining area for little ones nearby. Or the original ride takes so long that we are ready to move on to something else.
Not sure I understand what you mean by get it before you wait in line. You go to whichever line you are going through and ask for it. They usually give it to you right there but sometimes you had to take a little lanyard part way through the line before you got your ticket.

I’m saying I had no idea you could ask for rider swap before you got to the front of the line. I’ve always just told them right when our first Group is boarding. So I thought that’s what you have to do. And if you were literally about to board then it seemed silly to me to leave and come back. I understand what others are doing now.

I don't understand how you even got the too short kid to that point. I thought Disney was pretty strict about that.

Mine mostly just don’t want to ride. Now my son is tall enough. He’s just a wuss.
But I have found Disney very accommodating. Now generally it’s just me with both kids and they let ds sit at the end of the ride and wait for us to finish it.

But I do realize after your question that when he was too short I did tell them rider swap at the beginning so they knew he wasn’t riding and he was just hanging in line with us.
