I was out of the office on Thursday and Friday. I get back to find that I had one client who was in a panic trying to reach me for some reason (hi, my out of office with instructions about who to call was active) and also that NOTHING I asked my coworkers to get done while I was out actually got done. One item was sending a pdf to a client to review (who was about to leave on vacation) once it was updated and one was writing a draft of an email. I swear, I'm the only person with any type of follow through at this company and the only person who can actually accomplish anything.

That sucks. When I was practicing, before I went on a vacation, I took like 4 hrs on a Saturday and made a list of every one of my cases & its status, and a separate list of the things in about 3 or 4 cases that had to be done when I was out with specific instructions what needed to be done while I was out. Nothing huge, but also not things I could've done before I left.
Literally nothing was done while I was gone. Not a damn thing.
I bought a new mattress and box spring from Costco yesterday. My old ones were old and saggy. I was hoping my back would feel better. It kind of does but it aches in a different way. I think it's not used to the support?

Give it a bit more time. We bought ours from Costco as well and I definitely think my body wasn't used to it in the beginning. Now it's heavenly (has been for almost 5 years now).
I am looking for a good repellent for someone who is a mosquito magnet and gets super itchy/reactive, large welts as a result.
I can tell you what does NOT work - these fucking wristband things.
They are made of LIES and EMPTY PROMISES.
I mean, I could just go the Deep Woods Off route, but I thought I'd ask. Usually I just avoid being outside at dusk and dawn.
This one is my favorite. I think it works well, though I don't necessarily know about being in the deep woods. We've used it all over the US and it works well, with the exception of an occasional bite or two.

I'm glad to hear this! I got the Sealy one. It's on sale and I haven't had a new mattress in years and since business has been good, I decided it was time to take care of it. I'd wake up early because my back hurt even though I was still tired and hadn't slept much.
I want my email out of office response to say "I understand you didn't get your shit together and now you're scrambling. That doesn't make it my emergency. I'll be in on Thursday if you still need help."
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Overheard earlier: "It was such a weird coincidence. I went to two different events last week, and both restaurants I was at served baba ganoush. I had to look up what it was. I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant in my life that served baba ganoush!"

Some people, man.
I wish every restaurant served baba ghanoush. It's one of my favorite foods.

There's a place an hour away from me and their baba ganoush is like an eggplant cloud. My H was just talking about how we need an excuse to go up there soon.
2curlydogs, I use thermacell products, and they work. We have a lantern and one of the personal thingies (not the actual name-lol). They use butane, (and some kind of pads that only last about 4 hours, but there are DIY hacks online), so I am not sure about using the personal one for a kid, because it can get hot and it is a bit cumbersome. It was recommended to me by some guys who hunt, and they said that the mosquitos ate sometimes doo thick that when you are wearing this, you can see a clear area around you, like an invisible force field.
I used it on Halloween and the neighbors brought out a thermacell lantern, and it was the first Halloween since we moved here that we haven't all been eaten alive by all of the biting bugs. Florida is stupid with biting bugs.
We have actually had good luck with the stretchy bands, but everyone else can get away with one, and I wind up wearing them on my arms and legs...and anywhere else that I can think of. My H laughs at me, but I don't seem to get bitten when I do that.

I don't know how you'd do this on a practical level, but you could try treating your clothes with permethrin. We just went on vacation to an island, and DH went insane and insisted on treating all of our clothes with it before we left. I was hesitant to use it on nicer items and white shirts, but there was no damage or staining to any of the fabrics. We also consistently used insect spray, so I can't tell you if this worked well on its own, but if you're trying to avoid sprays and creams, then this is another option.

Describing Twitter to a non-Tw-user & trust: I debated posting but it seemed kinda perfect coming from the board Twitter-addict AND it could definitely also be applied to certain GBCN scenarios 😋

We got a Casper mattress a few weeks back and I am absolutely loving it. We had a decent mattress for about 6 years but because we're so chonky the bed developed two wells in it, which created a big ridge in the middle of the bed. Bad for cuddling and "etc."
It's the hybrid with springs, and it is amazing. I sleep very hot, so I hate memory foam because it cradles me and heats me up. This one has some kind of of foamy top but it's not too hot and I never want to get out of bed in the morning. But I'm sleeping so much better now.
I am in such a bad mood. I am dreading this weekend (family reunion camp out), and I'm fighting a cold. I just need to be alone for five fucking minutes. Or hours. Or days, even.

My coworker's H is in Vancouver for work for 6-8 weeks and I was like, "that sounds glorious. The being alone while he's away part."
Totally stressed out as of last week because the doggo has a viral papilloma on his tongue and I was sure that the train-and-board we were going to do was going to cancel. We had our meet and review dog today and they told me they could take him even with the papilloma if it wasn't gone by then. They would keep him apart and not feed from the same bowls and only play with dogs that were not susceptible (mid-range age or had already had a papilloma.) So I don't have to scramble to find new dog care and our anniversary cruise is still on.

Does anyone have thyroid issues? I'm having some symptoms my doctor thinks may be thyroid related so while I'm waiting test results, I'm trying to learn what I might be in for.

I do. Hypothyroid is what I have. Find a doctor who will treat your symptoms, not just your numbers. Make sure they test your t3, t4, and tsh. I also highly recommend a doctor willing to work with meds other than synthyroid in case another works better.

Are there different kinds of caspers? Good to hear you're liking it - I'm moving in with my bf soon and we'll be on the lookout for a comfy king bed that works for the chonks

I'm going straight from work to dinner with friends, but I really just want to go home and see how clean the house is after our first visit from the new housekeeper. Our house is not that big (1300 sq ft) and it took her 6 hours to do the initial deep clean. Bless her.

Along these lines, has anyone has a thyroidectomy? I just found out (yesterday actually) that while I don't have thyroid cancer, I do have a large nodule that's pressing on my trachea. I have a surgery consultation but if anyone has any insights as to life after the surgery I'd love to hear about your experience.

My initial deep clean was MAGICAL. I literally ran around the house exclaiming over things. Like one of those renovation show reveals. Or a small child at Disney. I still get super happy on cleaning days to come home to everything all clean.
First day of of new job was Monday. First day in the office was today. (Spent all day yesterday at a meeting)
You guys. I'm in love. I'll even forgive their open concept work space. (I need headphones STAT). Among other things their onbaording paperwork had options for gender non-conforming folks and people include their pronouns in their signature lines. People use actual plates for lunch and actually wash them. They have actual onboarding and training that isn't painful. They have good coffee. Oh, and the projects are all really interesting. You know, the actual work part. This is all world's away from every previous work experience where tone was set by the old white dudes in charge. Now I just need to work my way up so I get an office...

I had a thyroidectomy. Same thing, not cancer but a large nodule that was pressing everything sideways in my throat. I was started on levothyroxine first. It did ok for a while. My levels T3, T4 and TSH were all tested every 6 months. Then I started getting hot all time time. Not necessarily hot flashes, though I did get those, but I just couldn't hardly cool down. So I was switched to Armour thyroid, which is working well for me. I will say it threw my digestive track out of whack. I was nauseous for 4 months straight, had all kinds of testing from the digestive care people (I already have stomach issues). Turns out it was my hormone numbers. I went from taking it 7 days to 6 days a week and I'm feeling really good again. All this is to say don't be surprised if there is some adjustments.

Permethrin is highly toxic to cats, so be careful if you go that route.
2curlydogs, personally the only thing that works for me in something with a minimum of 15% or higher of DEET. Otherwise I'm just too damn tasty to mosquitos and they will ignore everyone else and come for me. I didn't mention this in the Australia thread, but I ended up in a situation where I was outside, in the evening, without bug spray in a highly mosquito filled area, and I had over 150 bites, and my H had like, 10.
