Tuesday vent: We got notice that it's official - our new HQ is going to be by the airport and add 15-20 minutes to my commute each way. Womp womp.
In other venty-news, demolition has started across the street. There's this incessant banging noise as the machines tear apart remaining concrete/rebar/etc that keeps a good rhythm.. until it doesn't. So while I'm sad that my commute gets worse and that there will only be a handful of shitty restaurant choices "nearby" (aka a half mile walk), I'm not going to be sad to miss the next 3-10 years of demolition and construction.
k3am which airport? Will it help to have free parking nearby when you need to fly somewhere, at least? DH works less than a mile from the airport here, so if we're going to be gone for awhile he'll drop us off, park at work, and uber back, and it saves us a couple hundred bucks. Sorry you ended up with a longer commute!
In the last few years 99.9% of my air travel is work related and I use Wingz or Uber to get to/from the airport and expense it in. I've parked in our parking garage at our current office and taken Uber in, which is pretty cheap. The new office actually has a shuttle to the airport, but I'll probably never use it.
But hey, I now have free parking and save $50/month.
I don't know how they'll build out the new building, but I'm hoping that they realize we're not in an industry that open concept will work for, that I still have an office, and that maaaaaaaybe I get a desk that even a little bit ergonomically improved. I am not confident I'll be keeping an office though. That will really cut into my posting here.
Yes k3am, I'm usually up there 3x a month - 1 meeting right near the airport on 1st street and 2 at City Hall! Love SJC. They just opened a whole new wing of gates which is good because it probably means more frequent flights, but bad because it will be farther to run when I cut my flights close
I would be really sad to have an open office as well - fingers crossed!
