I just bought a membership to the Philadelphia Zoo. For all 6 of us to go it would cost $160 (including parking) and I just got a membership for $144, seems kind of like a no-brainer.
My kids leave on Sunday to go to Disney with their Dad. Neither have ever been on a plane before so I was thinking of putting together little travel bags or something, but then thought that that would probably be weird since I'm not the one taking them on a plane. Maybe I'll just buy them each a bag of hard candy and call it a day. Meh.
My SS is obsessed with bugs. He already has 3 Tarantulas at my house (which for the record, I only agreed to him having two LOL) and then he added a Praying Mantis to the group, which again, I did not agree with keeping, but I lost that argument too. Last night he brought over another Praying Mantis and I lost my shit on H. Thankfully he told SS that he needs to take it back to his Mom's because otherwise I'm not sure what I would've done, but I can say it wouldn't have been pretty.
It's kind of a long story, but I got to witness a nearly 50-year-old man falling in love for the first time last night, and it has totally made my week. I have never seen a person so deliriously, innocently happy, and it was infectious. I am rooting so hard for his relationship to work out.
I have meetings basically all day today, which is great because that actually keeps me on task. But also not great because I have no time to do anything else.
My H and I both have jury duty tomorrow (we were both called for separate days, but had to reschedule due to vacation so we picked the same day as our reschedule). I am nervous about it. I've never been to jury duty before so I don't really know what to expect. I'm not thrilled about being out of the office tomorrow, but I'm especially nervous about being picked to be gone longer. Also my H starts a new job on Monday, so it's REALLY poor timing for him to be selected. I am hoping we both just have to show up for a few hours and then we'll be done. Does jury duty usually last all day or do they let you go early?
Last night I finished painting our living room and realized the color is different than the sample we swatched and it doesn't look good. Turns out there are actually two different shades of the same name and Home Depot gave me the wrong one. The guy at the paint counter was nice enough to give me a gallon of the right color for free, but I am NOT looking forward to painting all over again
I’m supposed to go to a Pilates reformer class this morning but I’m so tired. Hopefully I can find a minute for some tea & breakfast before going since that should help.
How is Ds1 going to kindergarten in 3 weeks ?!?!?! My super fat baby is now a tall skinny boy
Still no answers about my 'health' other than waiting to see a neurosurgeon in October and getting a third opinion from a rheumatologist. It could be a spinal cord cyst with degenerative disc disease, and maybe RA, but definitely chronic inflammation coming from somewhere, and can't rule out ALS because of the muscle twitching and weakness in arms and legs. I'm starting Abilify so maybe that will help with the depression.
Every day feels like a slog through the heaviest muck. Slap a smile on and pretend you're actually living...
My office is having a potluck breakfast this morning, and someone brought Chick-fil-A chicken biscuits. For once I'm glad my cube is on the main aisle where we set up the buffet.
I'm so impressed with DS's swim teacher, there was actual improvement after the first 30 minute lesson last night.
DD is halfway through her week of sleepaway camp, I can't wait to pick her up on Friday and hear all about it!

Yesterday was such a fun "birthday" day, today is kind of a let down so far. Womp womp. I do have delicious hibachi leftovers for lunch, so that is something to look forward to. If I'm feeling motivated, I may even go for a walk as well.
wildrice, in regards to jury duty, it just depends. I served on jury duty last summer for the first time (any previous times I got called I was away at school). I showed up (actually a little late but it didn't matter), and I ended up being there for all of the 1st day and on the 2nd day till mid-afternoon. If I recall correctly, they were able to choose the jury by that second day so they let the rest of us go.

Ugh I hope it doesn't go into a second day if I end up dismissed! I think in theory I wouldn't mind serving on a jury (someone has to, after all!) but this system where you can't plan ahead really sucks. It especially sucks for those who have less flexibility, I'm sure.
calamity, hugs. I remember DH going through disc issues and it's just so hard when you cannot get answers.
It's been a busy morning, which is good b/c it's flying by. Then we have a birthday lunch for someone in my division and we're going to mexican!
I am totally slacking on all of the home chores. I have a cleaning lady, but things like steaming clothes, doing the sheets/towels, and grocery shopping. I looked at hello fresh last night, but need to play around more because they wanted to deliver the week E is with my parents and DH and I plan to eat out all the things while we're childfree next week.
I'm debating taking DD to either the fair or Legoland for her bday in lieu of a party. Not sure which to do. Never been to Legoland. I know she wants to go to Disney but I hate the crowds at Disneyland and am thinking of waiting until next year when we visit family in FL and go to Disney World instead.
mofongo,no I have not had an EMG. I asked my primary about seeing a neurologist, but she wants me to see the neurosurgeon because of the cyst in my spinal cord (which wasn't seen on prior MRI's) and because he did my previous fusion.

I liked Legoland in Florida. It's in the middle of nowhere and nothing, but we had a really good time. You can get really good admission prices if you look around, much better than Disney. Though your daughter may be disappointed simply because it's NOT disney, not because it's lacking in anything. I personally hate Disney World with all my soul.

I thought that Disneyland was having low crowds. I would much rather go to Disneyland with a kid than WDW....it's easier to walk for kids and Disneyland is better than Magic Kingdom in so many ways.
I miss Disneyland, and may be projecting just a bit. We spend most of our time here at Epcot and the other parks, but avoid going to MK more than once a year or so.

I'm on a big Nick Jonas kick, which is funny because he's way too young for me. I'm also apparently new to the whole man and a woman loving each other thing, I didn't understand one of his more risque songs at first.
I just finished taking the quantitative assessment to see if I have to sit in on the 8 hour math course during orientation. Man, that was a humbling experience. It took me over an hour and 20 notebook pages of calculations to answer 28 questions. I haven't been in school for 15 years and was a Psych major to boot, so...not a lot of math. Anyway, if you score less than 80% you have to do the course. I got an 87%, but the instructor said I'd still benefit from taking the course because of struggling in some areas. Lol ok. I mean, I'm fine taking the course, but what's the purpose of the assessment then?

Another one, I think I'm facing a mid-life crisis, but I'm not quite late 30's. This whole job thing has been a mind eff. Then I sounded like a diva complaining that we need to move events we have every year (that I co-organize) to a different time because it conflicts with my birthday every.single.year. I know 100% we can't do anything about my specific birthday but I haven't been able to go on vacation around that time for years. Finally apparently my big boss heard that the office has a negative vibe because of me. I know who she spent the day with yesterday who said it, I just hate that my grown a$$, doctorate trained boss can't come to me and discuss it, she says it to a third co-worker in a one on one. In theory it's probably even a HR violation, but instead she hopes someone below her will tell me. I give up today.

DD and i were talking last names yesterday on the way back from daycamp and she told me that when her dad passes away, she wants to change her last name to mine !!!! So she was asking me how to make it happen.
She knows i never changed my name when i married for a multitude of reasons and i've always told her that her last name is hers so she can do whatever she wants to do with it when she turns 18, gets married, etc. but NEVER did i expect her to say that she wants to change it to mine when her dad passes away. If she wants to change it to mine should he pass before she turns 18, i am more than happy to help facilitate it.
eta - she also knows that should J & I marry, i'm not changing my name either - legally & professionally stay the same but only socially answer to his.
I deleted my one sister in law off of facebook because every few days she posts a photo breastfeeding her baby (not an issue) but always takes a picture with both breasts just hanging out and the baby just playing with her nipple. (And some tag line about how he just loves to tweak, yes she said tweak, them).
And what did it for me was her saying her baby no longer wanted to feed any longer and instead went to a bottle. And this saddened her (understandable) but it is okay because her 4 year old, who stopped breast feeding at a year old, has now started to ask to breast feed again.
So now she posts photos of both breasts out and her 4 year old.
I don't have kids and I 1000% agree boobs are boobs and you don't need to cover yourself up in public but at least 4x a week she posts herself just out there for the world to see.
It is my understanding that even pro breastfeeding doesn't involve your other boob just hanging out and you snapping photos.

It is. I was just there on Monday and the longest wait we had was for Smugglers Run. We used fastpasses for most rides and walked onto a ton of rides (less than a 5 minute wait). A few rides were having issues and we got stuck on RSR but they let us stay on and ride again. We did 24 attractions, 1 character M&G, spent 1.5 hours eating (lunch and dinner) and spent an hour in the Cantina. This was my 5th trip to the park this summer and it has been busy but not crowded. You could walk through Fantasyland without having to dodge strollers and people.
