He served in three tours, and she stayed home to raise their two daughters. No criminal record. Just "lied for asylum status" (or they misunderstood or misinterpreted.)
The husband voted for Trump, thinking his family wouldn't be affected because Trump was only going to deport criminals and she was no criminal. She self-deported when her claim was denied so she wouldn't be deported in handcuffs. Hoping she'll be able to come back and self-deportation would make it easier. She has no family she is connected with and will be moving to a community of ex-pat and deported military spouses.
You get what you vote for. But I really feel sorry for her. This wasn't her vote, or her children's. It was her husband's vote and she and her family are paying the cost.
This story is a year old and we discussed it when it was new. I have all the sympathy in the world for her and the child, and absolutely none for him. He didn’t think these disgusting policies would affect him, so was fine with them? Too bad.
Missed the 8. Saw the August 3 and thought "Again? Still?" I remember discussing one (apparently it was this one) and there are still talks about this happening (not necessarily this one, but things like this). There was a (much more recent, lol) article on how military service members are concerned about family being deported while they were serving, causing security and morale issues, that was discussed as well.
I just came across this one today. Well, hooray for how great things are going with the deportation of all the criminals. Nine flights per week to Guatemala, among cheers and reunification of families left behind.
