When it comes to surgeons, I don't care if they're nice. Ha.
SAME. I think everyone thinks I'm a weirdo for not really caring about bedside manner much with physicians. The person who caught my first kid was a woman who wasn't overly friendly and was also someone I'd never met before in my life. Did not care.
But no judgment from me, OP! I'm already wondering when I can get in for a consult for breast augmentation after this kid is born, assuming we are fully decided that we don't want a third. Good luck!!
I would go with 3 but stick to your original timing. I’d feel confident that you’ve seen others who used him. I’d also ask if they could help more with pain on an as needed basis. And while it’s nice to have a dr with a great personality, it’s not really that important.

Well, I like doctors answering my questions and not ignoring my concerns. But, especially for a procedure where I'll be asleep, I don't care if the doctor is the kind of person I would want to chill with on the weekend.

When I got my boobs done I went to the best surgeon. It was important to me that the surgery be done in a hospital and that the surgeon was board certified and had excellent reviews. I also traveled for surgery to have this doctor. I ended up paying more than others but it was worth it for my peace of mind.
On the one hand, having a personal recommendation is really compelling for #3. On the other hand, I wouldn't let a few thousand dollars sway me one way or another in such a major procedure, so I don't think the cost and financing alone should sway you from #1 if he is otherwise your top choice.
No judgement here! I am definitely getting my boobs done after #2. We'll evaluate the tummy when the time comes. I'm also interested in vaginal rejuvenation, to be perfectly honest.
I personally feel better going with medical providers that people I know and trust have good experiences with. So in this case I'd probably go with number 3.
If it's possible to make sure you have enough support while you're recovering in order to take the cancellation I'd do that.

Have you talked to either of them about cash options for cost? In my experience they usually will offer a break in price. I had a tummy tuck years ago when I was quite a bit younger. I had a few small complications (infection that was cleared up quickly with antibiotics). Since then, I had gained and lost a bit of weight but my stomach is still flat. I'll never have a 6-pack, but at least it's flat.
Also, does yours include any lipo? I had lipo on my back and also sides to help the scar lay flat. My scar is hip to hip but extremely flat. In regards to breast augmentation, I would just be sure it's the size you want to be, especially with how active you are. I regret getting mine as big as I did and want to get them removed but I'm terrified of what I'll be left with (literally nothing at this point).
I had a BA and some lipo about 18 months ago. I waited until I moved to Colorado from California because the price difference was so significant. I paid about $6500 for my BA in Colorado. My friends were paying 10-12k in Los Angeles. We have the same brand implant and I think we all look great. Recoveries were similar.
It doesn’t sound like #1 offers anything that accounts for such a huge cost and financing difference.
FWIW, I had Exparel about 8 weeks ago during an outpatient procedure. I just logged into my medical billing and it was $1920 of the total bill. I know that with medical cost allocation formulas, it would be a different price in different circumstances but I thought that data might be helpful anyway.
The anesthesiologist told me that in his experience it doesn’t really give 96 hour of coverage but more like 48 to 72. 72ish was my experience also.
This is good info. Thank you. I’ll ask very specific questions about price. The injection he uses (I can’t remember the name) is good for 24 hours. I’ll take 72 over 24 if it’s only a couple hundred dollars.
I would also go for number 3. I'm interested in doing this in a year or two and I'm curious about the prices. What is the cost of living in your area? I have a feeling things are going to be more expensive where I am.
I'm also curious if anyone has had a c-section and a tummy tuck and can compare the recoveries.
midrange cost of living I guess. It’s midatlantic suburbs but not DC or NOVA. I’ve also never had a c section so I won’t have anything to compare it to. People have told me that it’s much, much worse...bc of the muscle repair. I’ll be hunched over for at least a week. If you look up doctors on Real Self, sometime speople our how much they spent.
Anecdote to justify my response: I had a botched surgery (not plastic) done by a very charming surgeon. It ended up being overly aggressive and probably not even necessary. The Dr. turned into a total ass with zero accountability when complications arose afterward. Hard pass. I would absolutely choose someone with a personal recommendation vs. someone I "clicked" with.

If I go with him (number 3) I'll save 15% by doing it now and come back to work at a better time.
Im glad you all are saying 3. My sister and friend were like "don't go cheap!" "Surgery shouldn't go on sale!" And it made me feel like I should have gone with my gut on number 1.....but really number 3 is great too.
I think if you went with #1, you'd really regret not saving the (significant amount of) money later.
Take the cancellation IF and only IF you can get your mom or someone else to be with you while DH is away.
I would very strongly recommend looking into whether or not you can extend your leave unpaid if needed.
If you cannot line up extra help and more time off, I would schedule for next April as you originally intended.
Exactly where I'm at! We really won't even feel the pain at all in terms of budget, bc of how I've set up how I'm funding it. I didn't take out of retirement, just stopped contributing for a little while.
My friend said she would help that weekend, and my mom can come over for a few hours that Sat and Sun. He will work a regular workday and won't be gone overnight. I think I'll be good.

I can't do cash unless I wait over a year. Thats good to hear that even with some gain it remained flat. Both Drs said that the fat cells won't really come back to the places they lipo. Yes, lipo on flanks, abdomen, and I added inner thighs.
Im going back to look carefully at sizing. Running and bouncing and lifting and sports bras are all questions I need answers to.

Didn't want to "like" this but thank you for sharing this perspective. You are right, I have to go with answers and skill from previous work rather than a feeling.
My good friend had a similar surgery last year - a repare to diastasis recti, tummy tuck, and lipo (back and thighs). Definitely have as much help as you can get - she definitely struggled the first week of so and absolutely couldn’t take care of her kids at first. She’s glad she did it (and was in a similar situation where she had planned on doing it later but a spot opened up and it was all of a sudden in a few weeks) but definitely needed a village supporting her the first few weeks.
I'd recommend going with number 3 since you know someone that has had a great results with him, and the $8000 is a HUGE difference! I don't think you'd regret it at all.
After a day or two your biggest pain will be from drains not the surgery itself. You already know how I know this (to others-campermom and I go way back on this topic personally. She knows how supportive I am of this!). Drain pain is the worst you will have ever. You will want to pull them out yourself but know you can't. Your pain will be different if you are having diastasis recti repair. In that case you'd probably benefit from the extra pain med.
Do you have help with the kids for a few weeks if you book it now? You won't be able to do ANYTHING the first week, and it's imperative that you keep your activity really low for at least 2 weeks to give the TT time to start adhering (stomach wall "anchors" itself back to your torso--can't recall the medical term) to prevent a seroma. You would absolutely have to have your mom help for the whole first week. Please, please trust me on this.
It sounds like you don't have as much help lined up as you'll need - going by the other stories. A few hours help here and there? I don't know anyone who's had a TT, but I do know someone who had a breast augmentation/reconstruction (after mastectomy). And I'm pretty sure a TT is harder. It might be best to schedule for next spring if you'll be able to have adequate help then.

Do you happen to know how long her recovery was overall? At my last pp appointment my OB said I was likely going to need a diastis recti repair
My H is taking 1-1.5 weeks off of work. It's just Day 3 and Day 4 for 10 hours each I'll need to find some help. I kind of feel like those will maybe be the worst 2 days. My mom will likely help.

You know your kids. I have an 8 and 6 year old. For 2 days, they’d be just fine if we just had a couple hours of help (or them just going to a friend’s house to play for a few hours). They make their own breakfast, can get their own lunch, and play together well. Of course, I don’t have a 4 year old, but your 10 year old may be able to manage everything for the 4 year old for a couple of days. The house may be a mess when your H returns, though!
Is your 4 year old staying at your mom’s an option for that weekend?
When I was going for consults for the mommy makeover I was quoted a wide range (I live in a HC state but lower cost area within). I knew people that went to two of the doctors for a BA and other procedures like the TT but I went with another because I liked his work better even though he wasn't the lowest cost. I only ended up with a BA because I didn't like their work for the TT but I agonized over who to choose forever. In your situation, if you were comfortable with #3 and you liked his work based off the person you know who had work done by him, choose him. Are his reviews good?

if I recall correctly she was only really hurting/unable to do much for 2 weeks which isn’t bad. She wasn’t back to full functionality (like being able to exercise etc) for a long time - a few months.
