I have a driving question that I don't feel like making a thread about.
If there are 2 one way roads that intersect, is it ok to turn left at a red light? Ex. Going north on a one way road. Stop at red light and turn left to go west on another one way road.
I see this happen a lot near where I work, but I always thought it was illegal. Enough people have done it that it makes me think maybe it's not in these circumstances?
I don't know if I'm understanding. Making a left hand turn when the light is red? That seems like it should always be illegal. Maybe I'm missing something though.
FWP: the cleaners are two and a half hours early, so now I'm stuck in our home office when I planned to go sit at the pool with my laptop because it's not worth packing my stuff up and asking them to move their car. Really glad I went ahead and took the dog to daycare first thing this morning instead of waiting until lunchtime!
My period is still MIA. I don't feel particularly pregnant, at least not how I remember feeling at this point with DS, but it's starting to seem more likely. I think I'm going to test Saturday morning, since we're supposed to go to a couple of breweries with friends and I want to be able to drink guilt-free if I'm not. I'm going to feel really let down by modern medicine if both BCP (DD) and a vasectomy (this time) have failed us though.

Yes, like a right on red. But both roads have to be one way (so the road you’re turning left onto, must be one way as well and you can’t turn right on that road ever) and you have to yield right of way as you would right on red. At least that’s how it is in Florida. I can’t speak for other states.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham

Wut. No, at least not here, I have never ever seen it. That seems extremely dangerous.

That's also how I understand it in GA. If I'm wrong, I'm very lucky to have never been caught.
You all have confirmed my urge to get Einstein's for lunch. I was resisting, but fuck it. I have a very short fuse today and they better not skimp on the cream cheese.

In PA, it's legal as long as both roads are one way and there isn't any sign that says "No Turn on Red".

My understanding is this varies by state, but I remember it being legal in Texas, which is where I did driver's ed.
eta: A quick google search tells me it is legal in Colorado as well, provided you are turning from a one-way onto a one-way. If either street has traffic flowing in another direction, it is not legal.

It's no more dangerous than turning right on red. You're turning left onto a one-way street from a one-way street. The traffic would be flowing from your right and you would make a left turn when traffic is clear to do so.

When I was in Taiwan for a work trip years ago, I noticed that they made left turns from the right lane, going with the traffic moving in that direction.
It kind of freaked all of us out at first, but after observing traffic, it really seemed genius. It was also much less dangerous than the way the cab and bus drivers drove the rest of the time. lol

Ha. Friends of ours are on a 6 month long trip and their first stop was Taipei. One posted on Instagram about how terrifying the traffic is there. lol

I can still hear the screams of my fellow passengers on a cab ride back to the hotel from the theatre one night in Taipei. It was both frightening and hilarious.
I was sitting in the front seat on the upper level of our chartered bus when it shattered...the driver hit the overhang at the hotel in Kaohsiung. I saw it coming and said something to the driver (even though I kept thinking that he would stop)....it was crazy.
My sister is having a boy. I was really, really hoping for a girl. I wish I could go home for the rest of the day.
You want to go home because you have gender disappointment about someone else’s baby?
Oh no. There's a long back story here that I didn't include. But I totally see how it looks like that and I am being selfish because a girl would have been easier for me to emotionally deal with.
My sister is due just a couple days before the loss of my son. Add in my sister is being awful about it and the whole situation is a complete disaster.

I missed the one way thing. Make a lot more sense.

In both CA and IL I know you can turn left on red when going from a 1 way street to another 1 way street. The only time it is allowed is when they are both 1 way streets.
I posted this on Home & Garden, but wanted to post it here too since I had asked for some opinions as DH and I were working on this project...
We replaced flooring with Home Depot's Lifeproof vinyl planks in "Shadow Hickory." Painted kitchen cabinets, replaced a couple of walls with shiplap, replaced the front entry railing. Painted doors/doorframes and baseboards. We did all of the work ourselves. The railing was difficult; I'm really proud of how it turned out. The rest of the project wasn't hard, just time consuming.

I’m very sorry for your loss. I must have missed your back story.
My sister lost two babies (one at birth) so I admit this is one of “those” topics for me (without context, of course.) I apologize for jumping on you. You’re not selfish at all.
followyourarrow, I assumed that was what you were talking about (though without having "known" you for years I probably wouldn't have). I'm sorry this is hard for you, and I think it's completely understandable and not selfish at all. Feelings are feelings, rational or not. Hugs and I hope you can get a chance to decompress and take care of yourself.
I saw a new doctor yesterday and I really liked her. I am back on Zoloft to deal with my anxiety. She explained that since Prozac is slightly stimulating it can worsen anxiety in some people. I felt like she really listened to me and is more educated on mental health than my previous doctor. I am switching all of my care to her.
I am so hungry that I can't decide what to eat. I hate it when I get this way.

I just went to E's school to find out his teacher/take his supplies. I already had a big go-'round with the county about his bus stop (long story) which worked out in our favor (yay). I went over to the school hoping against hope that he would get the teacher he was supposed to have in second grade for this year (she moved up to 3rd grade, b/c they got rid of their 1/2 split that he was in for first grade--he would have been with her for 2 years).
I was hopeful, but thinking that we wouldn't get lucky twice, since we already had a win about the bus. 'Lo and behold, upon checking the lists, E, and his 4 best friends, are in fact IN HER CLASS. I almost cried in the gym I was so happy.

Prozac truly gave me fleeting thoughts of suicide. I went to a new doctor after that and he said it’s not uncommon, I had stopped on my own and get better within 48hrs.
Paxil made me suicidal. She explained that SSRIs are on a continuum with Prozac at one end and Paxil on the other. Celexa is in the middle and Zoloft is between Celexa and Prozac. Obviously, the extremes are not good for me. I consider myself fairly informed and had never seen SSRIs explained this way. I wish more doctors would take the time to educate patients and help patients understand that meds can affect people in different ways.

Your house looks amazing!
How difficult was it to repaint your kitchen cabinets? I’ve been wanting to do mine but I am nervous I’ll get into it and be totally overwhelmed!
Thank you!
I didn't find the process difficult at all, just time consuming. I did the lowers first and then the uppers. I think it took about 10 days for each set. I did 2 coats of primer and 2 coats (maybe even 3? I can't remember!) of paint, and lightly sanded between each coat with 220 grit. A few blogs said sanding between coats wasn't necessary - and maybe it wasn't, I dunno, I don't know what mine would look like without the sanding, but I'm very pleased with how they turned out.
lust2hart , what an awesome transformation! That’s a lot of work! We have a similar entry, and your railing is inspiring me to update ours. We had bamboo put in a year ago and now our old railing looks super shabby, and I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with it.
Thank you! Yes, the railing was a bit of a beast. We followed this tutorial for the long part behind the couch, and then made adjustments for the short part that doesn't butt against a wall, and then further adjustments for the angled section. www.homedit.com/stair-handrail/

I don't know if it's been answered yet but technically, yes. A left turn on red FROM a one way street ONTO a one way street is legal unless posted otherwise. At least in Massachusetts but I think it's a federal highway funding thing. Oddly enough I was just listening to a local radio story about the 1970's gas shortage and how we were the last state to make right on red the default and we only did it because we were going to lose federal dollars if we didn't. But the left on red on one-ways is related to that, too. It's legal but I rarely do it. It's unnatural to me!
