DD was at the dentist lately and he said everything was fine, but I think this is weird:
1) She lost one of her front teeth a few months ago (May) and the new one is nowhere in sight. Is that normal? She has had xrays so I do know that she has an adult tooth waiting in the wings.
2) DD’s other top front tooth has been loose since May. It hasn’t come out and she has tried to pull it. She had me try once but it clearly isn’t ready and I pretty firmly believe that the body knows what to do on its own. But now it’s turning gray! And isn’t any looser than it has been. (If relevant: this tooth also has a cavity. Dentist didn’t want to do anything, and I agree, bc eventually it’s just going to fall out.)

My kid’s friend had no front teeth for 15 months. She basically wiggles them out way before they should have come out.
Meanwhile my almost 8 year old refuses to wiggle her teeth so as soon as they finally come out, the other one comes in pretty much instantly. She lost both her front teeth in the last 4 weeks and one is already partially in,
DS1’s very front two teeth on top and bottom came in, but the 4 surrounding them have not come in yet. It’s been so long that I don’t even remember when he lost them! We made an orthodontist appointment for them to see if there’s proper spacing. Consultations are free, and they’ll be able to monitor the growth to make sure he doesn’t need a spacer or something.
I probably wouldn’t have thought of it otherwise, but I have braces now, so it’s at the front of my mind. I just made an appointment when I was last in the office.

My neice's dentist instructed her to keep wiggling the reluctant teeth to get them out. I'd probably encourage that with the gray one.
I have no experience with my kids though because DS1 is 7.5 yo with still no sign of loose teeth! I feel like he is the only 2nd grader with all his baby teeth. He used to be excited to lose teeth but now he's pretty much given up lol.

DD lost the teeth on the side of her front teeth and there was no sign of them for over a year, but x-rays showed they were there. She was actually referred to an orthodontist to make sure there was 'room' for them to come in, and one did recommend an expander, but another showed me lots of pictures of what will happen if there is no room for teeth to come in, and basically, except in really extreme cases, they will find a way. He suggested waiting till all her adult teeth are in to do braces. And now, almost 1.5 years after she lost it, one of the side teeth is finally coming in.

My daughter had a few permanent teeth that took quite a while to come in. Since X-rays look good, I wouldn't worry about it.
My understanding that a gray tooth often (always?) indicates a dying tooth. Probably NBD if it's a loose baby tooth. I have a few friends whose kids fell and hit their tooth (but didn't knock it out ... like my son did), and the tooth turned gray. It was a baby tooth, so they never did anything but wait for it to fall out.
My 5-year-old's two bottom/middle teeth have been ever so slightly loose for almost a year now. I don't think they are anywhere close to coming out though.

It takes forever for dd1 to get an adult tooth after a baby tooth falls out. Her top front teeth took an entire year to start coming down, and it was several more months the until they were fully in! We haven’t had a tooth turn gray yet.
It took my ds2 a long ass time to get one of his front teeth in. I asked the dentist about it and he said if it hadn’t broke through in 3ish months (which would have been like 11 months after he lost it) to come in for Xrays and make sure nothing was blocking its exit.
Sorry I was late making it back here, but I wanted to say thanks for all the replies. I had no idea that it was typical for adult teeth to take so long -- with DS, the adult teeth always pushed the baby teeth out, so the adult ones came in immediately.
As for the gray tooth, I guess I'm just keeping an eye on it. I told her if it turns dark gray, I won't make her live with it and I'll take her in. (And obviously if it starts to hurt, if she gets a fever I can't explain that could be an abscess, etc.)

This is what I thought too. I will say that after I posted this I read a bit online from various dental practice websites, and it seems like it can also be from "trauma" and that it can reverse. Who knows.
I’d encourage wiggingly of the grey tooth to try to get it out of there.
My DD is also missing a front tooth that fell out back in May. We know it’s up there but her dentist said to wait 6 more months for it to come in. She had xrays and another tooth is in its way so she thinks that one has to fall out before the front one will come in.
